On a slightly different note, maybe this visual will serve to illustrate exactly how isolated and how difficult it is for our Texas and Northwest brethern to schedule games and compete at the DIII level.   :-\

Some Midwest schools also are having trouble filling their schedules.  Eau Claire and Whitewater are still looking for a third nonconference game.  Whitewater is already travelling to Puget Sound on Sept. 27th.  If someone has an open date on Sept. 13th or Sept. 20th, Whitewater is willing to play you!

I was under the impression that UMHB wanted to keep the series going with Whitewater but the Warhawks walked away.  Is that impression wrong?

A very reliable, knowledgeable source has told me the same thing, Wildcat11.

If EC and WW can't get a game, they should play eachother. I know that's not what they want to do, but it's better than nothing. LAX went with 9 games for quite a while, and it seems they have dropped in performance since then. The players deserve to have 10 games.
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

Why not?  We do it all of the time in the ASC.

It's been done in the WIAC before too.  Stevens Point/Platteville and River Falls/Oshkosh have both played non-conference games against each other within the last 10 years.

A better scenario would be for D3 teams in the Midwest be willing to play the better teams in the WIAC.  Whitewater has been turned down repeatedly from teams in the Midwest, South, and from the West Coast to the East Coast.  I am absolutely flabergasted!  At least La Crosse has finally been able to get 10 games for the first time in three years.  A number of D2 teams have even passed on playing UWW, even at their place in a 1 year agreeement.

I was at the AFCA conference in Anaheim and was assured UMHB was willing to continue the series but Whitewater was not.  This is in no way meant to be harping against Whitewater, it is just the facts. I am sure they had their reasons.

Thanks wdglide. It is a great map and I copied it to the Centennial Conference post for all of the to review..

Pat Coleman

It won't be of much help in that. Geography is not a factor in how teams are selected.

Just for the record, this is a great idea.

I made one by hand several years ago for my own use in Around the Nation columns, so we could have facts handy like how many teams per state, how far (or close) some in-state or inter-state road trips were (Like somebody this year played all or most of their games in Ohio except a game in Indiana, which was actually just across the state line)

Site tech guy Ryan Coleman at least a year ago began the D3 Google Map among all his other projects, but I think it was to incorporate all D3 schools in all sports and have some searchable functions, and it obviously didn't get to the point of launch.

So glad someone went ahead and did it. It helps "a bunch" to be able to visualize.

Definitely a super-useful tool for reasons mentioned on this thread and others (Salem as championship site, West Coast bias claims, Texas schools having trouble scheduling, etc.)

Then if you have time visit Natural Bridge.

I drive by this every year on the way to and from the Stagg Bowl and say "Man, I really should go see that some time."

Va. definitely has some great history and outdoorsy-type tourist stuff to do.

Geneva College is located in Beaver Falls, Pa (populaion about 9000) and is situated on the Beaver River, a tributary of the Ohio west of Pittsburgh. Joe Namath played for Beaver Falls High School. In Joe's time and presumably to today Beaver Falls High School has played its games on Geneva's field. Also Cal Hubbard, an original inductee in the Pro FB HOF, played at Geneva. There are memorabilia about Cal in Geneva's trophy case - at least there were about 15 years when I visited  Geneva to watch a DL play for Trinity International (not to be confused with Trinity University or Trinity College) against Geneva. A guy at the car rental counter at the Pittsburgh airport threw a hissy fit when I said to him that Cal was a better player than Joe.
