I take JWU/Albertus..

I wasn't there, but watched online.. The crowd looked really into it. They were jumping on the side and making noise, wearing their white t-shirts and waiving them around. It looked like there was a lot of energy! I was impressed. Dave, they added bleachers behind the home basket, so instead of the folding chairs, there were bleachers.

Another SportzEdge piece and it seems you're right, crowd definitely looked into it!

Game Review :  Anna Marie / JWU

I watched the AM / JWU game on live stream and was very impressed with the JWU man to man defense.  Lucas, Lewis, and Greenaway, pressured the AM ball handlers and shooters on the perimeter forcing them to drive into the paint where Barboza, Robinson, and Touze were waiting for them.  Six times in the first half JWU forced  AM to throw off balanced shots up with under 5 seconds on the shot clock.  That is outstanding man to man pressure defense.  Eight minutes into the game JWU was up 20 to 5 and never looked back.

I was also impressed with the offensive spread, 6 players in double figures, 9 players scoring in the game.  JWU attacks in so many different ways; steals into transition, set offense, pull up 3 pointers, free throws, and especially offensive rebound put backs. The last time I watch JWU I was a little bit critical of their flex offense because they were not setting hard flex screens and not making sharp flex cuts.  I saw the same thing again last night but now I am not sure that they are trying to use the flex pattern to score.  I believe that they are running the flex pattern just to get the defenders spread out on the floor and out of shell help position so they can use their quickness and foot speed to get past the perimeter defenders and get to the basket.  The JWU players appeared to be able to beat the AM defenders off the dribble any time they wanted to. Even when they missed a shot another JWU players was there to clean up the offensive glass.  A very one sided game from start to finish.  After watching JWU again last night I am sticking with my pick of JWU over St Joe on Thursday.

Ok Gentleman,

After the Quarterfinals the GNAC PickEm Tourney standings are as follows:

1st - D3HoopJunkie at 4-0
1st - LilDave at 4-0
1st - 7Express at 4-0
1st - Saint at 4-0
1st - Alberus2007 at 4-0
2nd - PJ at 3-1
2nd - GNAC at 3-1

What a Barn Burner LOL

Since I have everyone's semi-final picks in already I might as well state my own for the record and go with Albertus and St. Joes.  Like PJ and GNAC in the quarters I'm choosing to take what is the "unconventional" pick in St. Joes to try and break away from the other 4-0 participants.

And to add to that I actually think that St. Joes is going to beat JWU at home. I know that in the first round St. Joes struggled a little with Suffolk and JWU absolutely dismantled Anna Maria but on that court in Standish Maine that team seems to have something going for them. I also think that last nights "close" win against Suffolk will make the Monks refocus on their goal and put in a strong performance against a team in JWU that they know is a very strong opponent. Also, after such a blowout like what JWU had I think they might lose their nerve a little and struggle against a very well coached team in St. Joes. Either way this is going to be an excellent game and I think the outcome is going to be very close.

As for Albertus and Lasell like everyone else you have to take the Falcons in this game. They are simply to good at home. Lasell has two quality players in Niba and Ganesh but they have no answer down low for Vic or at the guard position against Eian Davis. Darius and Niba will go at it all night but there are simply to many weapons on Albertus for the Lasers to handle.

I've finished DEAD last in every thing I've done on here this year (WIAC fantasy league, WIAC pick em league and national pick 'em league) so I'm guaranteed to end no better than 1-2 and finish last here.

pjunito

I can't beat GNAC at anything.... Therefore, JWU will lose tomorrow night. It is a sad fact.. Expect for 2 on 2 hoops with Dan Doria.

Albertus2007

Wow.  GNAC, sounds like PJ needs to be put back in his place.  PJ I think you beat GNAC in 2 on 2 one time.  PJ, how about those Mets.  Maybe Bobby Bonilla make a comeback since he's on the books till around 2030.

pjunito

Officially... It was a one game, winner takes all. Doria and I won the first game.. GNAC will tell stories about him winning the second game 11-0 or 11-1.. But, it was never series.. Additionally, the third game was stopped because someone hurt their ankle; we were winning the third game. Don't believe Steveo!

With all that being said.. GNAC owns me in most sport related activities. Especially fantasy!

It must have taken along time for the committee to decide on the new rankings. Hey let's swap Bowdoin and Springfield and call it a day.

Is the committee made up of coaches?

pjunito

I think Dave said once, that the committee is made up by coaches; one from each conference in NE. There are 8 conference, therefore 8 coaches. Lasell represents the GNAC. But, I think he is not allowed to be in the "room" when a GNAC team is discussed (or voted on), not sure which one.

Dave 'd-mac' McHugh

There are some administrators too, but some double as coaches. Thus the national committee, for example, is made up of four administrators and four coaches officially, though again, some have two roles and could be called an "administrator" to get another coach on the committee.

Here is your Northeast Committee:

Michael Tully, chair     Roger Williams     Commonwealth Coast
Ed Silva     University of New England     Commonwealth Coast
Aaron Galetta     Lasell     Great Northeast
Brian Baptiste     Massachusetts Dartmouth     Little East
Jason Doviak     Salem State     MASCAC
Dave Faucher     Daniel Webster     NECC
David Hixon     Amherst     NESCAC
Larry Anderson     MIT     NEWMAC
Dick Meader     Maine-Farmington     North Atlantic
