D3 - I just gave you +1 for taking that drive the other night.  LilDave - +1 for joining the karma club!

D3 I'm unsure. Obviously basketball gets the most viewership of any sport. Soccer would really only have a decent crowd during Fall Fest or the GNAC tournament, baseball and softball don't even play home games at the school, all the other sports aren't very good...

Perhaps they're still living in the past where the team wasn't very good and no one came. Once the team became good (later in my tenure), it was actually the students that filled up the stands (and were much more rowdy). Obviously students could/should get in free but perhaps they just didn't want to alienate anyone? I honestly don't know what the reasoning would be. Abromatis is the 3rd AD since I've been associated with the school, you'd figure someone with a D1 background would give it a shot. It absolutely couldn't hurt to try it even once, have a donation table by the door and see what happens. I was told they're remodeling the raquet ball courts to add more in terms of a weight room, you'd figure an overnight a year would be doable. And Norwich/St. Joes/Rivier is the obviously situation to do it but much like Dave and others have offered, take an overnight to a tournament where we don't normally play. Get some exposure. Just all seems so easy that SOMETHING behind the scenes has to be in the way of it all.

LilDave, thanks for the response.......I guess we can only speculate. It's just frustrating the hell out of me!

WPI the +1 is appreciated.....the drive was worth it even though the Falcons blew them out. Watching Tavon Sledge play is worth the price of admission and a 2 hour and 45 minute ride! Do I garner such another point once I become a member of the Karma Club??...............Ohhh like right now ;)! My 200th post!! More importantly I become a "Starter" and don't have to ride the pine anymore!!!

Welcome off the bench D3 - unfortunately you can only +1 somebody once a day!  All conference for Magnus the rest of the way now except for a poor Newbury game.

What will be their toughest test?  At St Joe's?  At Johnson and Wales?

Most schools let students in free, but let's say Albertus charges $5 for an adult ticket (I think the average is right around $4 or $5.  I can get into some LEC schools [Keene, Plymouth & USM] for less but most of the others, that charge, charge $5).  And of the 400 person capacity let's say 300 are non students (and I think I'm being generous with that number.  Talking with Dave at the AMC game he was saying the students still don't support the team that well  ???)  You can make $1500 on 1 game alone, which will probably be good enough for 5 rooms at a super 8 or some cheap hotel.  Even if they only charged $1, that's still $300 they could me making for 1 game.

Yeah I mean, I'm sure the shear NUMBER of students at the games are similar as to the Ray Askew days but the students are FAR less engaging. No defense chants, no you can't do thats, nothing. We used to count down the days until the next home game!

WPI, The Johnson and Wales game at Johnson and Wales will no doubt be the toughest contest the Falcons have left in the regular season. This has been an incredibly tough place for the Falcons to play at over the last few seasons. Certainly the St. Joe's game at St. Joe's is intriguing as well because they are very well coached and as a team shoot the three ball statistically as good as anyone which can always be a problem on the road. Another interesting game to watch will be at Lasell. I'm definitely not as worried about that game as the other two. But Lasell is another program that is really well coached and the Falcons have just had some troubles there over the years in the beginning of ball games.

Are they playing the Monks at home or up in Maine??  Up in Maine with those Maine homers as referees can be a tough place to win, especially if you are a ranked team, but get them outside the state borders and they are not nearly as good.

D3HoopJunkie

7, They still have yet to play the Monks so they will get them at home and on the road. Please dont get me going about the referees in the state of Maine! I could go on and on and I remember reading one of your post in the past on the Little East thread and it seems you don't like them to much either  :D

Falcons are up 16 at the half to Norwich. I want to applaud the broadcast Norwich is doing right now for the game. The play by play analyst is outstanding and the video quality is great as well. Really professional!

whether admission charge, donations or athletic budget used to fund an overnight trip, a school runs Title IX risks if one sport and/or gender receives preference over another.

D3HoopJunkie

iwumichigander.......you are the recipient of my first +K but I have to ask how exactly would that be able to be perceived as "preference" if it ever came down to it?? I can walk right down to a soccer field but you cant exactly do the same in a gym setting? And that's not the basketball teams problem??? No??? Just curious on your opinion only because I know a number of schools who charge for this and not for that or charge less for this and more for that etc.....

Falcons win in Norwich by the way 89-72

I cant wait to read Saints recap of the Lasell/Emmanuel game tonight. I caught the ending and it was just poor execution. Not to mention according to the scoreboard the Saints had 2 timeouts left and the Coach didn't use one when they were trapped multiple times down 3 with secs to go. I'm certain Saint will describe it in full detail (as he usually does) and everyone will have a better understanding

thanks for +K honored to be recipient of your first
The potential problem IMHO is in meeting the Title IX "three prong tests" as far as proportionality.  It would seem to me that if a school funds the overnight as proffered above for the men's basketball team then it must also be prepared to fund a trip under similar circumstances for the women's basketball team.

Saint-Paul

What an ugly game this was.  Lasell missed 29 field goal attempts,  had 20 turnovers, 19 personal fouls, missed 9 free throws, and they WON this game.  How bad is that ?  This was Lasell's third win of the year.  The final score was Lasell 71 -  Emmanuel  66.  The Saints just continue to beat themselves.  This was another very winnable game.  The Saints show NO patience on offense, jacking up shots from anywhere on the court with any amount of time on the shot clock and then compound their mistakes by not sprinting back on defense giving up easy transition layups.  If you are going to allow your team to take quick shots without running an offense ( even when the score was 66 - 65 with 27 seconds left ) at least teach them to sprint back and dig in.  Lasell had only one capable 3 point shooter, number  24.  A nice shooter, good form, nice stroke, but he shot a set shot, not a jump shot.  Number 24 was not athletic enough to put the ball on the floor or get to the rim.  So what do the Saints do ?  They don't chase him off the arc, they leave him open to knock down 3 after 3.  The other three guards are not outside shooters but they are very good at getting to the rim.  Again, what do the Saints do?  Instead of playing a tight zone they play a very loose man to man, allow Lasell to spread the floor and then get beat off the dribble ten possessions in a row, giving up 25 free throws.  Who comes up with these game plans?  Doesn't the Emmanuel coach scout the other GNAC teams before he plays them?  Well, at least the Emmanuel coach used the same starting line up for two consecutive games. That is the first time this year.  Why the team captain got benched after starting ten straight games is still a mystery, but that is way things are done at Emmanuel.

The people on the NESCAC board don't like them too much either.
