Back in the middle of January the Lasell Lazers beat the Saints on a last second buzzer beater.  At that time I felt the Saints were not prepared well enough for that game. Tomorrow the Saints get a rematch with Lasell.  I am sure that the Saints will be better prepared for this game.  It should be a close game but I think the Saints will not be surprised by Lasell.  I expect a better defensive effort from the Saints and I expect them to move on in the playoffs.

Huge opening round game for the Falcons tomorrow night against Suffolk. The Falcons were embarrassed a couple weeks ago against Suffolk in Medford Mass. Out hustled and out worked for the entire game and was really one of the more surprising outcomes of the season. However, losing happens to everyone, its the manner in which you lose that can be alarming and on that night it certainly was the case. But, the Falcons have bounced back extremely strong since that loss and appear to be playing at a very high level right now heading into the GNAC tourney. Suffolk no doubt has some strong players and are a very talented team with a lot of senior leadership but they are no match for the Falcons when their clicking on both offense and defense. Not to mention beating Oliver twice in one season, that just doesn't happen very often in this conference.

This will be a tight game but I see the Falcons pulling away late in the second half. 86 to 73 final.

As for the other match-ups, I believe Emmanuel will take down Lasell, St Joes Maine will best Anna Maria and St Joes CT will advance past Regis.

Albertus vs Emmanuel
St Joes CT vs St Joes Maine is how I see the GNAC semi-finals shaping up for Thursday!

Stunning upset, as the Saints watch Lasell knock down 12 first half 3 point shots to jump on the Saints by 22 points in the first half.  Saints were playing catch up all night long and could only watch as Lasell coasted to a 98 - 77 first round victory.  Giving up wide open 3 pointers as been a major problem all year long for the Saints and it finally caught up with them at a most in opportune time.
The defensive effort to move on in the playoffs was no where to be seen tonight.  A bitter end to a once very promising season. Well, as the Cubs fans say, " there is always next year . "

Falcons 25

Saint, what a shame! I watched the first half of the Saints/Lasers game & it reminded me of a game that AMC lost to
the ST. Joe`s Monks, when the sky seamed to rain 3`s!
It doesn`t take away from a great season for the Saints!

AMC almost suffered a similar fate tonight vs Suffolk University! They "willed" themselves to victory!
Tyreek Perkins, Jahmerikah Green-Younger, Qualon Wilkes, Rob Tindley & Andrew Rice- are all mentally tough players!!!!
LaSell is our next opponent & I hope they know how to drive to the hoop.(we will shut down their 3-point guys & force them
to the rim!)
GO FALCONS!

What a battle last night in New Haven! How Suffolk fell to a 7 seed is beyond me! They are a far better team then the draw they received but those are the brakes! Albertus did not play their best game but when it became to make plays they did exactly that. Andrew Rice is back!!!! What a difference maker at both ends of the court. His presence and defensive abilities are something to marvel at. In my opinion, he is the best defender Albertus has ever had. With the exception of 2 misses down the stretch at the line from Qualon Wilkes the FT shooting in clutch time was superb and the defensive effort was just enough to get by.

Jahmerikah Green Younger is a beast!! He does not want his season and college career to end and he is capable of single handily taking over a basketball game and that is what he's been doing for the last few weeks now. Tyreek Perkins. Mr Consistency as I like to call him. Plays as hard as anyone and takes so much contact when going to the hoop. He has really matured over the last few games and has done a great job of keeping his emotions in check. He is a strong, firey player which is why he might be my favorite player on this team but in the past his emotions have sometime gotten the best of him. It looks like he has taken a turn and really worked on being a leader. He really did a good job of gathering his teammates last night in times where it looked like some were going to lose it a bit!

Really surprised by the other matchups. Emmanuel performance against Lasell was disappointing. I was fully expecting a matchup with Emmanual in the semi finals. St Joes of Maine??? What happened? Anna Maria is a decent team but I really thought Maine would perform much better then that! Box Score for Maine, how does Jack Casale, easily a 1st team all conference player only take 4 field goal attempts on the night? That is unacceptable in a game of that magnitude. In 37 minute played too! That was the biggest shocker of the night IMO. He is far to good a player!

St Joes CT did there thing as expected........Not much to say on that one

Hi all,

I host a Connecticut sports podcast, The Connecticut Scoreboard Podcast, and was fortunate enough to get some time with Coach Jim Calhoun for a podcast. We spend the first half talking about his time at St. Joe's including this year's team and the run the team is on, the differences b/w coaching at D1 vs D3 and then talk about some of UConn memories.

Thought some on here might enjoy: https://soundcloud.com/user-855271056/jim-calhoun-uconn-and-st-joes

A deadly accident on I84 has affected the GNAC tournament.

Both women's semifinals (I think) are now to be played on Friday.

At least one of the men's games (Anna Maria at St. Joseph) has been postponed to Friday.

Last I saw, Lasell at Albertus Magnus was delayed, but still to be played at 9PM Thursday night.

Also, the championship game has been moved to SUNDAY afternoon in men's basketball.

Yep ... but considering this is the GNAC board ... I didn't include it.

No Connecticut teams were involved in the GNAC Women's semifinals, which were played last night.  On the women's side, Emmanuel and St. Joe's of Maine advanced to Saturday's title game.

Falcons 25

What a game for the Ages last night in New Haven! AMC prevailed over Lasell, 95-94.
Between E.J. Day & the officials, I thought The Falcons were doomed. BUT, this team
never quits!!!
Andrew Rice & Terry Dawkins scored all the points down the stretch on turnovers.
Keith Antonio Davis, "Q" Wilkes & Davon Warner did the hard work of inducing the
said turnovers! A Huge assist to "THE NEST" crowd that was as loud & crazy as I have ever heard
them! (I`ve seen pretty much all AMC games in person for 11 years!)
Championship game is : Sunday afternoon!

Incredible comeback by the Falcons.  When you guys were down 6 points with a minute to play I really thought the game was over. All Lasell had to do was get the ball over half court and shoot free throws to end the game. Not sure why Laseell was unable to get the ball into their front court. That last free throw with 0.1 seconds left was nail biting. Good Luck on Sunday.

Anna Maria leading St Joe's CT 36-24 7:30 left in 1st half.  BlueJays have to solve zone defense of Amcats.

Halftime--

St. Joe's CT up 47-46 at halftime over Anna Maria.

If BlueJays win, the championship game will be at the O'Connell Center in West Hartford on Sunday at 1 PM.

It should be an exciting 2nd half.
