Emmanuel 59  Lasell 55.  I only saw the score but another bad loss for the Lasers.

falcons2010

Was Jennings at the game?

D3HoopJunkie

Yes he was at the game but in street clothes. He did not start the previous game because he got a T in the game before that against St. Joes. That has always been one of Coach Olivers rules. As to why he was in street clothes for this game I am not really sure? He certainly didn't look like he had an injury because he was dribbling around and looked healthy on the sidelines. I guess we will have to wait and see! Kind of a sloppy game today for the Falcons but a dominating win nonetheless.

51 and counting........

Final score Emmanuel 59  -  Lasell 55.  Watching this game was like watching a Thursday night pick up game at the BSC health club.  Both teams just ran up and down the floor taking bad shot after bad shot or else taking turns throwing the ball away.  Emmanuel committed 24 turnovers and Lasell committed 20.  Emmanuel shot 18% from behind the 3 point line and Lasell shot 31% from 3.  The only difference in the game was that Lasell had no one who could cover the Saints big man in the low post.  He finished with 23 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 turnovers. Neither team showed any poise or discipline.  No one bothered to run very many plays, as soon as either team got hold of the ball it was off to the races , and the first player over half court was pulling up for a jump shot or else driving one on three into the lane.  A difficult game to watch.  In the last 30 seconds of the game with Emmanuel holding a 2 point lead the Saints could not protect the ball.  Lasell stole the ball twice, once resulting in a 3 point air ball ( no set play ) and the second time with 2 missed free throws ( one short, one lane violation ) that would have tied the game with 5 seconds on the clock.  Not a well played game by any means.

Watched the video reply of the St Joe / Anna Maria exciting 104 - 105 overtime game.  What a competitive, well played game, featuring disciplined offense, unselfish passing, great hustle, and clutch shooting.  Both teams traded clutch 3 point baskets in the last 60 seconds of regulation and then again in the last minute of the overtime with just one free throw deciding the game for Anna Maria.  For a minute I thought I was watching a rerun of the movie Hoosiers, since both AM and St Joe combined to MAKE 24 three point shots.  Most of the field goals in this game came from running their half court sets to perfection.  The screens, ball reversals, cutting, and hitting the open man all executed flawlessly.  Both teams combined for 43 assists in this game.  Simonds had 37 points for St Joe, along with Blodgett's 19 .  For Anna Maria it was again Bradanese  22  and  Deloray  23 leading the team.  The shooting was deadly for both teams with St Joe shooting 58% from the field and the Amcats besting that with 64% for the game.  St Joe looked very much improved since I last saw them play a while ago.  Their passing looked crisp and sharp, and the timing of their offensive sets looked on the mark.  They are playing very well together right now.  The Amcats are just on a very big roll right now.  They see every open man, get to every loose ball, knock down big shot after big shot, and are showing a lot of team chemistry right now.  Not sure why neither team has bloggers writing about their games.  These are both fun, exciting, and talented teams to watch.

D3, you know what is interesting about the streak. The game against Medgar Evers that Albertus lost; Coach Oliver wasn't coaching. So, the last game that Mitch Oliver lost at home (including post season play) was on January 25, 2011. So, for him, you can add another 8 games to the streak.

Its crazy isnt it PJ, I remember that game. He was ejected after a double tech. No disrespect to the assistant Coaches or anything but if Oliver was out there for the entirety of the game I dont think we would have lost.

All part of the game though. Thats why they play it. Just sucks knowing that if we are fortunate enough to run the table the rest of the season at home we still have to wait till next season to see if we can break the all time record!

Ferraro13

i remember that game as well, medgar evers won on a buzzer beater........a double tech for Oliver??? Uh oh, Dave just dropped Albertus another spot in his regional rankings

I would dare say part of being a good coach is avoiding being ejected ...

No question Pat but at the same time sometimes its done to try and light a fire for your team and other times its warranted. And in that game it was warranted.

All the greats of this game have gotten ejected before, Coach K, Coach Calhoun, Boehiem, and on and on and many more. Just another part of the game.

We like the way Coach Oliver coaches and the way his team plays. Regardless of what everyone else thinks it doesnt matter to him or the team, there going to show up and play as hard as they can everynight

Forgot to mention a guy named Bobby Knight......

Then it's kind of disingenuous to then also give him a pass for the team's loss, right?

Yes -- those neutral observers who aren't biased toward Albertus Magnus might not drink the kool-aid. :)

Pat, I wasnt giving them a "pass" for the teams loss. Just making an observation and prediction based on the way the game ended that day and how things transpired as the game went on.

No neutral observers will ever drink the kool-aid of Albertus Magnus. Even though they have improved in the tournament every year and have been nationally ranked year and and year out for the last few seasons now. The biggest knock against Albertus is obviously the GNAC conference but anyone who knows basketball knows that it doesnt matter how good or bad your conference is, there's nothing harder than winning it every year after year and thats exactly what the Falcons do.

I would like to know what a neutral observer is though? I'm not calling you out Pat, but everyone for the most part who votes or contributes to the top 25 in anyway shape or form. How may games have these people seen Albertus play? I mean honestly at this level because of exposure issues in terms of only seeing teams on video stream or reading box scores. Everything is based on numbers at the D3 level......with the exception of you yourself Pat and Dave who I'm sure watch a number of games online through video streams everybody else in the top 25 who votes probably doesn't even see these teams (not just Albertus) play week to week. They get the packet that D3Hoops.com sends out everyweek with wins and losses and thats it.

The eye test is far more important then anything you see on paper and again I know it's not the voters fault necessarily but it's just a shame that that's what it comes down to.

D3HoopJunkie

With regards to the D3Hoops.com packet I didn't mean that it just contains wins and losses of teams. I'm sure there's a plethora of information within it that voters look at and make there best judgement based on those numbers
