Dave McHugh will be happy to know Albertus trails Emmanuel by 10 with 7 to play. I know he enjoys watching Albertus struggle. This team isn't the same without Jennings, let alone Jennings and Sanders

You know what... this is BS. I don't enjoy watching AMC struggle. I don't enjoy watching anyone struggle. These are student-athletes playing a sport they love in a division I care deeply about and want to shine a light on as much as I possibly can. Struggling does nothing for me just as it does nothing for them. I went through an 0-17 soccer season in my collegiate career - it sucked, but I learned a lot from it. However, I don't want any student-athlete to struggle in a winless season or otherwise. In no way, shape, or form have I ever indicated I like watching Albertus struggle. I might comment that I don't think they are as good as others may think they are... but I have never had any glee in any team struggling including a rival. Do I take interest in seeing AMC have a nail-bitter of a game against Emmanual? Yes, because it tells me something about the team, the game, the opponent, the conference, etc. Would I have celebrated if AMC had lost... ABSOLUTELY NOT!

You can disagree with my point of view on AMC per how good they are and their out-of-conference scheduling... that is fine... but don't make any assumption I want to see them struggle. Student-athletes at AMC, Amherst, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine, Goucher, and even Caltech are all playing the sport because they love it... don't try and even pretend I think otherwise.

Great video, but someone should tell the sports guys that the longest home winning streak in all of college basketball belongs to the Amherst Lord Jeffs women's basketball team... well over 100 games now.

Don't care if you don't give them their due. I have a problem with you talking about their actions and coach Oliver's. Sportsmanship, as if they have none. Way off, sorry to tell you. At the same time they are there to win, so deal with it

They haven't behaved well in big games.  This team talks, complains, whines, and yells more than almost any other team I've watched.  Personally, I'd prefer a team let their fans be the obnoxious ones, but I'm not entirely opposed to teams doing it - so long as they can keep it under control.  It's a tough ask for kids to be emotionally aware in the midst of big games.  Oliver takes an approach with the team in this area that not many coaches do.  It's not going to win over a lot of neutrals - but it does seem to work out well for recruiting and for overall record.

It is what it is.

You can have a problem with my opinion on sportsmanship - fine. I will state when I think it goes over the line. AMC isn't the first; they won't be the last.

However, don't try and twist my opinions on behavior into my wanting to see a team suffer. There is no straight line between those two vastly different aspects. There isn't even a dotted or crooked line you can take. That is putting words in my mouth.

The present Amherst WBB home game streak is 109 with a win over Middlebury last weekend.  The previous WBB home game streak was 99 by the UCONN women's team.  The overall home streak in all of college BB was set in the late 50's by the MBB team of the Un. of Kentucky...at 129, I believe.
The fan who feel that women sports does not matter....it should be noted that in the state of CT....the UConn WBB is bigger than the men's teams at UCONN...including football.
Amherst's record breaking streak has gotten national attention in the media and a nice congrat from UConn.  Lots of people around the country and world care about women sports.

Ferraro13

I'm not one to be politically correct as you can tell. Take it as is I suppose. However, while uconn women's bball is huge here in ct, it is not bigger then the men's program. That's just not true. If anything they are even. Let's be honest tho, no one actually cares about womens sports for the most part here in America. That's just the truth........hoops, that's their character, it is what it is like you said. They feed off of it. They certainly seemed to last night. They play with a ton of emotions. Oliver runs a great program. Thanks WPI.

Don't remind me about UConn football, I'm a season ticket holder!

And I'd have to argue about the Women's program being "bigger" than the Men's program. Having been too all the parades, and in bars and parties during tournament games, and countless games in person, the atmosphere around the men's team when they are good/playing in big games is much more exciting. The women are "bigger" in the sense that they dominate consistently...but I also think that takes away from aura around them. They're supposed to win, so when they do it's no suprise. Fans of both watch every men's game, they do not watch every women's game.

Interesting perspectives with respect to WBB vs MBB in state popularity.  Have to state here that I have a number of " connects" with UCONN basketball.  My wife is an UConn alum...born and raised in Ct.  I was a grad student there.  Followed the MBB team in the Toby Kimball era.  My best man and his wife are loyal fans of the WBB team...more so than the men's team. My best man is moving to NC soon and has offered me his WBB Final 4 tickets for Tampa....fearing his move will prevent him from going....has followed the team to other titles.  Was up in Storrs in Nov....visited the BB hall of fame...WBB built?...ate at Gino's place there.  Know one of the men players that work out with the WBB team...etc. checked out the new practice facilities too.
Given those awareness of UCONN basketball, I still stand by my "position" of the Women being more popular than the men.
Even in spite of Jim Calhoun's sucess and last year's title team.  I admit that I'm not a fan of Calhoun.
I'm going toTampa tomorrow for a visit..maybe check out the Final 4 site.  Was on the East coast beaches last week end and had a debate with some Conn fans from Newtown over the BB teams.  One couple are also season football ticket holders.  Still Mad that Maryland "stole" the football coach  :)
Anyway...it is an interesting debate topic.

falcons2010

The win is nice, the streak is an amazing accomplishment. But I would have preferred the lost. 3 of the last 4 games showed me that this team needs work to make a legitimate run in March. Please don't get me wrong, I am happy they won the game especially because I know the guys well. But, this team needs work. Saint Paul hit it right on the head. Defense was lazy, 2-3 zone killed Albertus all night, and they couldnt run. The saints have talent but played young. I dont expect this in the tournament.

Let's see how they respond tomorrow.

As for the dave/ferraro fued. I think most Albertus fans remember the dark ages of 4 win seasons and want to hang onto this 3 year run as long as possible. I Think we get passionate about the falcons and protective. Dave you make solid points about the schedule and conference, but Albertus can be competitive in the little east, newmac, and nescac, not 16-0 but competitive. Ask any regular poster and I think they would agree.

Finally as a faithful big east supporter I would like to say that I root for the Uconn men and women team equally.... To lose of course!

Dunk Haven baby!

Ferraro13

Falcons2010, I wish the big east was still around to beat up on your red storm. Lol as far as the "feud," it is what it is. I've never seen the guy say one good thing about Albertus. Not one. complains about their schedule, fine. But don't have Mitch in an interview a few times and never press him about it if that's how you feel. Don't bring up sportsmanship problems with Albertus, and then again ignore it when you have Oliver for an interview.......amh, def a topic of debate for sure

There's 2 schools in the country where the women's basketball program is bigger than the men's basketball program: Tennessee is one, UConn is the other.  Stanford maybe a distant 3rd, but I still think the men's program there is better.

booyakasha

Not making any judgements by this fact, but the Uconn Men about 1500 more in attendance than the Women over the past few years.
