1. What was the whole point of this argument anyway?  (Please don't answer that. I don't really want to know.)

2. Didn't the Stout/Eau Claire game take place almost a week ago?  That's like six months in basketball season time.  Let's move on.

Hey, I was ready to move on a long time ago...;)

We've got a fresh round of WIAC games to look forward to tonight!!! ;D

Several have some real implications on the WIAC standings:

UW-Oshkosh @ UW-La Crosse
UW-Platteville @ UW-Whitewater
UW-Stevens Point @ UW-Eau Claire
UW-Stout @ UW-River Falls

Superior has the bye.

Superior played--and lost--last night in Ashland. Downhill slide. I don't even much remember the up...

For the rest of you who don't want to read all the hot air, here's your advance warning. Pass this one on by...

Hey Champ -

Here's the sequence:
Funny how I make a general comment about the good fan support at UWEC, which is an opinion based on the stats, but I didn't include that number in my comment. I was merely stating how I was hoping the students, who were now back in session, would come out for our rematch to avenge our earlier loss at UWL.

But you are the one who likes stats so much. So you took that comment a step further, posting the actual league averages for this year. You were the one who brought out the stats. Not me. And I then posted the numbers since 1999, providing a league perspective of things, and giving both Stout and UWEC credit for the great crowds they have drawn.

And sorry, but the fact is I didn't make any reference to the attendance at UWEC dwindling at UWEC since the "glory days." Go back and see who did.
Was not me. But you thought it was, and had to tweak me, as you say, with information that was incorrect, about UWEC "road" games outdrawing home games.

So, being the stat guy that you are, I gave you the correct one, and told you where you made your mistake, told you I am aware that road game totals don't include neutrals, but also threw in a bonus stat - the attendance UWEC has averaged per game outside of Zorn, realizing they included netural sites... So, you can tweak me, but I guess I can't tweak you back?

You claim those are irrelevant numbers, and yet throw in your stats about Oshkosh vs. Point game attendances in those two sites???, which are irrelavant to the UWEC discussion, which was about how they should probably draw well at their next two games against those teams....

Please don't say I've overreated to all of this... You are the one who seems to want every opinion backed up with stats, which you did when I gave my opinion about the 'Golds D vs. Stout, based on what I've seen. That's what intially stirred the pot. So, now, when I give you stats, you overreact?

Oh. Hey. Almost 6. I gotta get going so I can get my seat at Zorn!  :D

UWEC over Point 60-51.

Tight game the whole way until the last minute when EC pulled away.  Ashley Anderson had a big 1st half and Burns took over in the 2nd.  She (Burns) made 3 or 4 shots in consecutive trips down the floor.  The odd thing was that they were all over 15 feet, including a 3.  Houghton got hot in the middle of the 2nd half, nailing 2 or 3 3s in a matter of a couple minutes.

Stout women don't show up until game is almost over; River Falls starts without them. Perhaps schedules were wrong...time zones? miscalculated travel time? arrived at the airport a day late?

What a time to make a bold prediction. Beer and schnitzel on me.

Tonights results:

1/31/07 UW-La Crosse 57, UW-Oshkosh 51
1/31/07 UW-Whitewater 76, UW-Platteville 75
1/31/07 UW-Eau Claire 60, UW-Stevens Point 51
1/31/07 UW-River Falls 79, UW-Stout 68

What an up and down team RF has been this year.  They start off pretty well, then lose to some poor teams, and know they are on a roll.  Entering the season, I thought that they were going to be good since they have 5 senior starters I believe.  Now it finally looks like that senior leadership is showing up.

A bitter sweet night for this EC fan.  EC wins but the other conference teams that I wanted to lose all win.

WHITEWATER blows a 22 point lead with 14 minutes remaining but wins by a point, 76-75, when Dana Thompson powers her way to the hoop and scores with less than 15 seconds remaining.  Platteville gets two more shots at the basket but both miss.  Bizarre game marred by a combined 58 turnovers.    When the weren't turning it over WW shot 49% from the field.  Hiedi Sontag led five WARHAWK scorers in double figures with 16 points including 3-5 from beyond the arch.   Tiffany Morton finished with 13 points, Nicole Bundy with 11 points, Lindsey Buechner and Dana Thompson with 10 points apiece.  Buechner led the team in rebounds with 9.  Morton had 7 and Thompson 6.

Platteville was led by Lisa Brantman with 20 points and Lisa Wubben with 8 rebounds.

It wasn't the kind of win that mades a coach very happy but a win is a win and this is one that was absolutely critical.  To put it in perspective all you have to do is think about how rotten you'd feel if you blew a 22 point lead and lost.

You know, there needs to be a silver lining in every loss, don't you think, Foul Language??

To Badgerwarhawk: + karma for your fine report. I was really surprized how close it was. Surprized about RF upsetting Stout. Just my luck that RF is playing well when they play my beloved Pioneers, both men and women. PS: Both UWEC and Stout have great attendence. no need for futher comment? God Bless!

FL.  Stout not showing up until later is an understatement.  RF got every loose ball, did whatever they wanted on offense, and really controlled the game.  Stout's intensity really picked up in second half but they continued to shoot poorly(2-14) from 3 point range and got outrebounded 39-32.  RF played very well.  Stout didn't.  End of story.  How will this game affect where Stout ends up in the conference?  It won't change a thing.

Saw something I have never seen in all my years of watching basketball.  Duoss gets called for 3 fouls while exactly 2 seconds run off the clock.

I thought Stout had a combination/answer for everything. Apparently, with only 20 on the roster, the only thing they couldn't fix was their own dismal performance. So, it looks like River Falls came ready and eager to play, while Stout came ready to win, not necessarily to play. A full half of being outplayed, out-thought, out-hustled, out-shot must have been too much for even an inspired half-time talk. I wish I had video of that, by the way.

T always used to say, though, that he couldn't win in River Falls. I figured that jinx had been dispatched. RF is definitely impressive to watch, if you can get past the part about them beating the snot out of your team.

If it weren't so ludicrous, it'd be funny...

65 combined FT's last night.  It wasn't a pretty game.  And FWIW, before anyone accuses me of totally blaming the officials - the FT's were pretty evenly split.

Neither team could figure out what the ref's considered a foul.  RF had the only player that fouled out, so can't blame that for the Lady Blue Devils poor performance.

I posted before this game that RF was the best defensive team we've faced all year - and I stand by that statement.  We sank as many FT's as we did baskets from the field... >:(

I thought we were going to blow them to kingdom come.  But to their credit they never quit playing and when their shots started dropping and ours didn't and we  kept turning the ball over they just kept going at it and before you knew it the lead was gone, Wisdom was completing a three-point play and Platteville was looking at the upset.

I really thought it a positive sign of our younger players maturing when we were able to handle the pressure, get the ball where it needed to be and finish w/ the W.   Today that's all that really matters.
