The only way both will go is if EC wins.

The last week of regional rankings (through Sunday's games):
Central Region
1 Lake Forest 19-1 21-2
2 Carroll 20-3 20-3
3 UW-Stout 19-4 20-5
4 Illinois Wesleyan 19-2 21-3
5 Washington U. 16-4 19-5
6 UW-Whitewater 16-5 19-6

Stout slips a spot.  But I think that Carroll and Lake Forest would probably play each other in their conference tournament.  As a result, one would have to lose.  Probably better for Stout to have Carroll lose.  Lake Forest's regional record is so good that they may not drop if they lost.

It's going to take a while for the bitter taste of this loss to wear off and fully appreciate what the program has accomplished this year.

Not so fast badgerwarhawk!  Your team MAY not be done yet this year.  On the "Pool C" board someone went through and labeled all of the Pool A, B and C bids based on QOWI.  Whitewater came in at pool C bid #12 (there are 20 pool C bids available).  Now you will have to keep in mind that this is basically being based on no upsets occuring in conference tournaments.  Still though, it looks like WW has a little breathing room left.  You will have to hope for as little upsets as possible.  Unfortunately, that means you will have to root for Stout on Saturday  :P

The 'Golds just really played well - Heidi Arciszewski came out firing and made a statement, scoring 15 of her 21 in the first half, including 13 of the team's first 18, most on threes...

I'll give a game ball to Brittanni Hakanson for her defense on Liz Tesch. The 'Golds were able to hold her to 6, vs. her 14.9 ppg. They also did not put her on the line at all - zero; she came in leading the conference in free throws made, at 107...

I'll also credit Missy Fremstad, who spelled Heather Witt in the first half... Missy brought the intensity on defense, and set the tone for the game... She pulled down four boards, had four assists and two steals during her stints, and picked up three fouls, bouncing off all the picks/screens the Pioneers were setting... If it were a football game, she'd have had a dirt-covered jersey, that's for sure...

I'm not sure why, but Tesch was outside the paint more than in it. She set more picks/screens at the top of the key than she took shots, it seemed. Wasn't that they were running pick and rolls, either... But the 'Golds defended her well... Ashley Anderson helped out on D, too, and had a nice game offensively - 6 of 10, for 12 points. She and Hakanson both pulled down six boards, too...

Liz Wisdom had a nice game for the Pioneers; she pulled down 8 boards and led them in scoring with 15. But Lisa Wubben had 10 boards.

'Golds led in the turnover category, too, having just 10, vs. 22 for UWP...

Best of luck to the Pioneer seniors and thanks for their contributions in making this one of the top conferences in the country...

Great game at Johnson Feildhouse tonight as Stout takes down a very tough RF team.

I was going to go to the men's championship game but I feel the need to stay for the "Battle on 94."

Congrats to the Lady Devils on a hard fought dub against a solid RF squad!

Looking forward to another solid performance Saturday.

I didn't actually say we were done for the year. ;)   Though I have to admit to not keeping track of our tournament status.  I don't know that we've ever been in the national tournament except perhaps in the distant past.  So it wasn't something I was thinking about.  That would be nice but from our experience with the men's program I'm not holding my breath.

I don't have any problem rooting for Stout to win Saturday.   What the heck, if it helps us, Go Stout. :D

Couldn't have said it better myself, BW!!!

It would be great if WW got into the big dance!  And from past experience, it's not necessary for a WIAC team to make it to the WIAC Championship game in order to get in.

Wishing nothing but the best for the Lady Warhawks.

Whitewater's last NCAA appearence was in 1995 when they beat River Falls, but lost to Eau Claire.  They also made the dance in 1993, 1987, 1986, 1985, 1984, 1983.

Oh, it's actually a bit more recent than I thought.   I didn't really follow the women's program very closely in those days.   Thanks JB.

As far as the game last night, it was a hard fought win against the team that challenges us more than any other in the WIAC.  They match up with us very well, and HC Cindy Hovet always seems to bring her "A" game when she plays her former coach.

Talking with Coach T after the UWO game on Monday,  he told me that he had to go back up to his office and start preparing a game plan for the RF game.  He needed to change a few things.

And it seemed to me that what they did was to change how Duoss played.  She played decoy at times, feeding the ball off to her teammates in order to get better looks.

All our big girls got serious playing times - in an effort to wear down River's bigs.  Also, River's guard were run ragged in the press - both Sorenson and Parr fouled out.  Before the end of the first half, Sorenson was visibly tired.

The game was nip and tuck, with neither team ever gaining a real advantage.   With Stout trailing by two with 16 minutes left, Char Edwards started a 19 - 4 run with a sweet jumper.

Leading that run, Edwards had 6 points, Lindsey Geissler 5, Dani Boese 4, and Savanah Oeltjen and Amanda Geissler chipped in 2 each.

The last four minutes seemed to take forever as the "foul game" started...  But we made the majority of the FT's, and didn't allow many quick scores by the worn out Falcons.  It typically took them 20 - 30 seconds to get a decent look at the basket with the way our defense was playing.

This game was won with tough defense and a well rounded scoring attack.  Dani Boese and Char Edwards finished with 14 points each.  Savanah Oeltjen and Lindsey Geissler also had double figures with 11 and 10 respectively.

Nice crowd last night - nearly 1600 fans in the stands.  Should be a full house for the Championship game!!!

Speaking of the Championship game - today Joanna Bird meets with her doctor to see if she gets the green light to get some playing time in the WIAC Championship game.  Two weeks out of surgery and this girl really wants to play!!!

At our age, and with our memories, 12 years ago is the distant past... ;)

Champ.  I found out how to end a post game interview in a hurry last night.  I started to mention to Mark that the Stout win last night was number 26 in a row without a loss for the #1 seed and he didn't even let me finish the question.  A tad superstitious, it seems, in that regard.  It is, however an amazing stat. considering the balance in our great league.  What did you think of the officiating last night???

The Champ

Yes, Mark is superstitious...  That and I know that he doesn't like to sound overconfident - EVER.  Probably didn't want to give EC and locker room material either.

I think my comments on the officiating would best be left off this forum... :) ;D ;)

I will say that we need to see an improvement in the officiating though.

I noticed that my "friend" from River Falls was there last night.  I thought about telling Steve Terry to kick him out of the game, but....

The war on 94 is on ... this time for the bid to the NCAA's.

The Johnson will be rockin I just hope those old bleachers can hold up.

Even better news is that basketball is an indoor sport so the weather should not keep us from the game (if the weather man is right, it's a big IF).  I will save my voice for sat
