Blugolds have nothing to be ashamed of. They started too slow, but they had the more intimidating task: face the number 1 conference team three years in a row on its home court with nothing to lose. To its credit, EC put together some great runs despite having the only size matchup for Duoss on the bench too much of the game.

They were in the conference championship game. That team has no reason to hang their heads.

HOCKEY--
St Norbert announcer describing a SN skater tripping a Stout skater: "His stick was caught up in the skate and [Stout skater] fell down."

He almost made it sound like Stout should have gotten the penalty. Perspective: it's an amazing thing

No score.

Norbies score twice in a minute.

Knobs score again, 3-0

Looks like Stout has deflated--de-iced?

Norbert scores a fourth goal, about a minute after third. I didn't get a chance to post the third goal before fourth goes in.

The consensus is that only Stout will get in. This is sad considering how well our women play BB. We beat up on each other too much. Think EC is better than many teams that will get in.However, it appears that 20 is the magic number. Congratulations to the Stout community for the great crowd today, considering the weather! I am sure a lot of EC fans came as well. Thank you and God Bless!

Short answer is magic number was probably 20 wins for UWEC (19-9)...

Long answer, without looking at all the other teams in the mix around the country, here's some stats for you number crunchers on how the UWEC schedule broke down, as far as quality wins...

Wins against conference teams {13} = Platteville (3), River Falls (2), Superior (2), UWL (2), Stout (1), Point (1), WW (1), Oshkosh (1)

Loses against conference teams {6} = Stout (2), Point (1), WW (1), Oshkosh (1), UWL (1)

Nonconference opponents (6-3)
Away Tournament vs. Baldwin-Wallace (19-7) = L 68-50
Away Tournament vs. Davenport (24-6) = W 72-65
Home St. Norbert (16-8) = W 63-55
Home Tournament Otterbein (14-12) = W 76-67
Home Tournament Morningside (20-10) = W 74-65, NAIA D2 2004, 2005 champs
Away St. Cloud State (17-10) = L 71-55, NCAA D2 school
Away Carroll College (21-4) = L 64-61
Away Bethel U (12-13) = W 60-58
Away Trinity U (17-8) = W 69-56

And I'm enjoying this tropical weather too!  ;)  Seriously though, did ANYONE find it a little odd that Chuck Mourning was reffing this game all while Keith Knoll was the PA guy?

Stout had its "A" game going yesterday.  No question about who was going to win fairly early on, IMO.  Kelsey was the real deal.  3 straight conference titles, 3 straight tournament wins.  Is "6peat" a word?  23 straight home wins.  That is domination in it purest form.

On a sidenote: Tonja Englund and her entire team lined up, stayed on the floor, and showed real class by honoring the postgame awards.  Not many losing teams do that anymore.  It is easy to be sportsmanlike when you win, not so easy when you lose.  Class move, ladies.

Is today Selection Sunday? Projections have three WIAC men's teams getting in; would seem strange to have only one women's team. However, unless the WIAC teams selected get into different regions, it just ends up WIAC softening itself up on other WIAC-ers. Seems like an exercise in futility.

Looks like some conferences play their tourney semis and finals over a weekend. That must be deadly. Imagine having to play Whitewater Friday/Saturday and Eau Claire Saturday/Sunday.

Par for the course.

WW MIGHT get in.  They are definately on the bubble.  I think they can squeeze in if there are very few upsets in the conference tourneys.  WW has the #38 best QOWI.  However, their regional record is below .75, so if they don't get in, it will probably be because of this.

Good season for EC.  With no seniors, they should again be near the top of the conference next year.

Congrats to Stout!
