The high scoring WARHAWK women's basketball team was firing on all cylinders this afternoon beating Cornell College (Ia) 85-48.  Shooting 56% from the floor the first half the lady WARHAWKS jumped out to a comfortable 41-22 halftime lead.  Lindsey Buechner led four double figure scorers for WHITEWATER with 17 points and pulled down 7 rebounds.  Tiffany Morton had a double-double 12 points, 10 rebounds and added 4 blocks.  Dana Thompson scored 11 points and Trisha Thill added 10 points.  Twelve WARHAWKS scored points and the team dominated the backboards with a 50-36 edge which included 22 offensive rebounds.

The win improves the season record to 3-0.

UWEC wins 86-78 over D2 St. Cloud State, a team which beat Stout 87-72 earlier this season.  EC played fantastic in the first half and ended up leading 44-22.  The offense looked tons better than on Saturday.  It actually looked like they were running an offense tonight.  Freshman Hannah Messick played really well.  EC needs someone to step up in the post and Messick sure did so this game.

EC shot very well this game.  I believe that they were 59% from the floor in the first half, not sure how they ended up for the game.

The 2nd half got a bit sloppy for EC but they were firmly in control the whole game.  SCSU had a run of 3 straight 3s early in the 2nd half but then cooled quickly.

A couple things EC needs to work on are FTs and Rebs.  FTs were a strength last year, but in the past couple of games they have been flat out bad.  They were only 50% vs. Chicago and although better tonight, still not to where they need it.  Tonight they missed the front end of all three 1-1s in the 2nd half and 1 or 2 in the first half.

All in all, a good win for EC versus a solid D2 club.  They really needed this win to gain back confidence heading into conference play and a tilt against archrival Stout!

Nice win for the 'Golds tonight - they won in a difficult place to play... Golds go to 5-1 overall; Stout is 3-4.

UWEC was down early, 8-2, but, unlike the past few seasons, when they have had troubles on the road at the start of games, and then had to expend a lot of energy trying to get back into games, today they were able to go on a 10-run, to take a 12-8 lead, and didn't look back...

Were up 34-22 at half; Stout was able to pull within four at the 14:43 mark... Big difference in both halves was the shooting percentages. 'Golds were 12-23 (52.2 %) in the first half, while the Blue Devils were 7-27 (25.9%)... Golds cooled off a bit in the second half, and ended up at 23-49 (46.9%)... Also shot 5-9 from the three point line, compared to Stout's 3-21 on threes. Blue Devils finished the night at 17-59, or 28.8%... Golds were more in character from the charity stripe, too, hitting 19-25 for 76%...

In addition to Heather Witt's 22 points, Michelle Burns added 10 and eight boards. Amanda Zenner had 8 boards, too. Julie Hirssig had a nice game for Stout, also pulling down 8 boards and scoring 17...

The WARHAWKS beat Stevens Point75-71 in a very competitive game that went down to the end.   Tiffany Morton paced WW with 20 points and 8 rebounds despite being doubled and triple-teamed in the low post.  Soph Nicole Bundy finished with 13 points including a huge three-pointer late in the second half.  Kelsey Hendrickson scored 11 and added 5 assists as she continues to make significant contributions.

Laura Neuenfeldt paced Point with 15 points including 3-4 from beyond the arch.  She's a nice player.

UWP SID

For this holiday season, why not do something very meaningful? UW-Platteville guard Brianna Klaas is currently undergoing treatment for cancer, and the Pioneers have started a "Shoot A Three for Bri" program. Fans can pledge money for every three-point shot the team makes during the year or make a general donation. All money raised will go to the Grant County Cancer Coalition. For more information about this program and about Brianna, go to http://www.uwplatt.edu/athletics/basketball/womens/0708/threeforbri.html

Anyone wanting to send on their well wishes to Brianna can send them to athletics@uwplatt.edu

What a game between Stout and RF.

Stout got off to a 25-2 lead to start the game.  RF battled back to take the lead, but lost it at the end by 1 on a last second shot.

As noted, UWEC wins in Platteville 73-61...

Keys to the game were: The Blugolds were a torrid 31-51 from the field - that's 60.8%. And a bigger lineup that had a run of 18 straight points, bringing the 'Golds back from a 21-14 deficit to a 32-21 lead in the first half... Coach Englund credited her post players who were in at that time - Brittanni Hakanson, Kali Houselog and Michelle Burns...

Burns tops the Blugolds with 21, and Heidi Ariciszweski added 18... Heather Witt had a terrific game, too, with 10 boards, 9 points and 7 assists. Rachel Mueggenborg had a couple of points in the second half that helped keep the Pioneers at bay, too. She had 8...

The Pioneers - no seniors on this team - were led by Lisa Grantman's 17, Vanessa Nemitz's 16 and Lisa Webber's 10...

#1782
With 14 minutes remaining in the first half and the score 10-8 in their favor the WARHAWKS went on a 10-0 run gaining a double digit lead they would never surrender by primarily pounding the ball inside to Tiffany Morten and Dana Thompson who accounted for 22 points.  Defensively relentless full court pressure gave Oshkosh fits, forced 14 first half turnovers and held the Titan to 27% from the floor while shooting 57% themselves.  By the buzzer WHITEWATER led 50-15.

The second half was pretty much the same though the Titan managed to score more than 15 points.  WHITEWATER had leads of 45 points twice.  Nineteen players saw action for the WARHAWKS with none playing longer than 18 minutes.  Morton led the way with 16 points and 9 rebounds.   Thompson finished with 10 points.  Sara Moran and Marry Donohoo each had 4 assists and Heidi Sontag had 4 steals.  The final was 82-43.

Oshkosh is really young and it shows.  Their guard play was poor and their interior defense was weak.  Though they did outrebound WHITEWATER slightly and hit the offensive boards hard.   It's going to be a long season up there this year.
