I checked the UW Superior/Whitewater game early in the second half; saw the Supers were down by 50 and asked myself, "self, can the Supers pull this one out?" Even self didn't see that kind of miracle. Lord. Not even a Rasputin Special Russian Imperial Stout can cushion that kind of blow.

As long as you mentioned "Stout" in this post, I thought I would jump in here!  You sound just like someone who used to post here last year.  Your friend Mary Schaefer (my partner calls her "Luther" but I think he means "Mary Schaefer") is playing very well.  Why don't you come down and watch her sometime?  That German bar is still open.

stoutguy, I thought you were off your rocker....again.

But then I analyzed the post by phoenix some more. I think you nailed it.

Only one former poster would say...

Welcome back, 'er phoenix.  ;)

Okay, so I wish Phoenix would rise pretty soon to respond to our clever barbs.  HELLO, OUt THERE ::)

I mention good beer and, suddenly, the Stout people can see clearly.

If anyone reads this soon, the EC @ Carleton game is being videocast off Carleton's website.  EC is up at the half 40-25.

EC ends up winning 76-53 over Carleton.  Good road win for EC.  Carleton is expected to battle for the MIAC title.

EC had a balanced attack and shot the ball well from the field, especially on 3-pointers (9-16).

One thing the Golds need to work on is limiting their turnovers.  Just too many lately.

The high scoring WARHAWKS cracked the century mark for the second time in a week beating Edgewood College 104-62.  WHITEWATER never trailed in the game and with the score tied 10-10 went on a 9-0 run fueled by 6 points from Dana Thompson to take a comfortable lead that would grow to 28 points by halftime, 54-26.  The lead grew to as many as 48 points in the second half.  All 21 players on the WARHAWKS roster saw court time and five scored in double figures.  Tiffany Morton led the way with 22 points followed by Heide Sontag who nailed 3 of 4 three-point attempts to finish with 17 points.  Lindsey Buechner, Kelsey Hendrickson and Thompson rounded out the double figure scorers with 13, 12 and 12 points respectively.  WHITEWATER dominated the boards with a 42-23 advantage.  Morton led with 8.

Megan Scheele led Edgewood with a double-double 27 points, 10 rebounds.  She's an excellent player who could start for any team in our league.

Went to the UW-Superwomen's home opener. While the Supers managed to eke out a win, I'm pretty confident it's going to be a bad year. Lots of freshmen on the team. Doesn't look like the few upperclassmen have complete trust in the younger players, yet. Nor should they. I think there's promise, though. Really.

RF wins today

Superior loses a close one

UWO gets blown out by St. Norberts.  Half way through the 2nd half, UWO was down by 31 points and they themselves only had 21 points at this time.

WW wins in OT against Luther

I thought Superior was going to edge Scholastica in the final minutes as they did in the first game between the two and in the last game UWS played (Northwestern). Not to be. Freshman Tessa Gronli, who didn't seem to be seeing the big picture on Thursday did a very nice job tonight. She had better poise than junior Carissa Nord who got pissy (can I say that?) in the first half about the defender's rather intimate closeness/hands-on approach to guarding and never seemed to recover. Rounsville got in foul trouble early and watched a lot of the game from the bench.

And in hockey, UWS took a mild beating from the U.S. U-18 development team, 7-3. In all fairness, Superior should have gotten assists on two of the U.S. team's goals, since they put the puck right in front of their own net. The last thing the goalie heard before the puck whistled past him was his defenders saying, "We're right behind you."

Stout, I think is showing some signs of being a contender.  In the last couple games players like Schaefer, Gerber, Maslowski, and Wyngaard (all non-staters) have all played well.  Add DeWitt when she gets healthy and you have that dreaded balance that Mark is so famous for.  I would still love to see many more touches for Hirssig as her strength right now seems to be offensive rebounds.  She is making a living off of them.

The WARHAWKS braved the weather Saturday night traveling to meet Loras.  The first half was close throughtout with Loras's biggest lead at two points, 19-17 (8:15), WHITEWATER'S four points, 25-21 (6:50) and six ties before ending 30-28 in favor of the WARHAWKS

Loras opened the second half with a 14-6 run and went up 42-36 before the WARHAWKS responded with a 10-4 run and game was tied 46-46 with just over 10 minutes remaining.  WHITEWATER eventually built a seven point lead 60-53 (4:54) but Luther finished the half with a 12-5 run and the game was tied 65-65 and headed for overtime.

In OT the score was tied 71-71 when Kelsey Hendrickson hit a jumper to give the WARHAWKS a lead they wouldn't reliquish on the way to a 78-72 win.

Hendrickson led WARHAWK scorers with 17 points and had six steals.  Both Lindsey Buechner (12 points/11 rebounds) and Tiffany Morton (11 points/12 rebounds) finished with double-doubles.  It was a sloppy game as the two teams combined for 48 turnovers (23-WW, 25 LC).

WHITEWATER improves to 9-0.  Next up is Coe College on Tuesday.
