Sidenote on UWEC's win-
As buf mentioned, Michelle Burns topped the 1,000 point in scoring. She's the 13th Blugold to do so...

Leading the pack all-time in this conference is Arlene Meinholz, from UWEC (1991-95), at 1,834, and the 30th person listed is also a Blugold, at 1,278, Dawn Rattray (1989-93)...

They list the top 30 on the WIAC sight, and Burns was the 13th Blugold to do so, so between her 1,000 and Rattray's 1,278, there must be a bunch of players who are between that range, including six other Blugolds...

Will perhaps do some more research and throw out some stats for those interested, when I get more time...

Kelsey Hendrickson led all scorers with 21 points (4/5 3pts), had 5 assists to one turnover, a rebound and 2 steals.  Hendrickson has been a huge addition to the team this year.  If the second half of the season goes like the first she's a legit POY candidate.  I'd just like to thank Lisa Stone for believing Rae Lin D'Ale is a better player.  ;)

I think she is the main reason that UWW is playing so well this year.  It gives the Warhawks a legitimate outside threat to go along with their great inside game.  Coming into this season, everyone knew WW was good on the inside.  But I think that the question mark was the outside game.  Hendrickson has answered that question.

Even though its only half way through the season with a lot of basketball left to be played, I think UWW has a good chance to make a run deep into the national tourney and challenge for the title.

Was the factor that Stone started D'Ale over Hendrickson, the reason why she left?

We would have had a pretty good team even without her as we returned everyone except two seniors who didn't play much.   But she's definitely made us even a better one.

Hendrickson was a walk on.  She decided to transfer when Lisa Stone recruited two other scholarship point guards, one of whom was D'Ale.   There's more to the story but I don't really think it's appropriate for me to discuss it in a public forum like this.

Speaking of Kelseys (there's a reach), has anyone seen Kelsey Duoss back in the states?

That binocs thing is crazy. I've never seen anyone with binocs at any of the games, but then I was watching the game. :D I can't imagine why anyone would bring them to a basketball game. Football for sure. Now all the golds fans will be looking for this guy.  :D

I was just watching Family Fued.  One of the questions was, "What would men use binoculars for?  HA HA  ;D

Big game tonight.  Point vs EC

I believe that this is a must win for EC.  They still have to play at Point and UWW.  Hopefully Zenner can play.

shootfromthearc

Should be a good one. Wish I could go. If it was a double-header I'd go for sure to see the mad pacer filming the game. Maybe he'll be at Quandt tonight!

Zorn is tough place to play...how does the match up look tonight? Point's deep, fast and tall here and there but not a major post presence. How does EC look inside?

This should give us the beginning of what we might be seeing at the end of February...

Although I'm a Point fan, I'm secretly hoping for SP, EC and WW to all go 1-1 against each other, beat everyone else and create a three-way tie for first at 14-2.

I think that would guarantee three WIAC teams in the tournament regardless of how the conference tournament comes out.  How could the committee possibly leave 1 (or 2!) of those teams at home under that scenario?

The Champ

At the half, Stout is up 54 - 14 over Superior.

Looks like 3 point practice in a game situation for Stout - 10 for 20 from beyond the arc.  Lindsey Gerber is the leading scorer - 4 for 6 from beyond the arc for 12 points, Lindsey Geissler is 2 for 5 from 3 point land and has 10 points.

Julia Hirssig and Char Edwards both have 5 boards each.

Stout's shooting nearly 54% compared to 27% for the Yellowjackets.

Mr. Downtown

It's been a long time since I've posted on this side of the WIAC board.

Anyway's, EC wins another big game at Zorn, beating Point 62-54.

Final, as noted. UWEC 62-54 winners, on clutch free throw shooting down the stretch...
The Blugolds scored their last 11 points from the line, hitting 11 of 12, and 18 of 19 during the whole game, for 94%...

Tied at half 26-26...
Pointers were able to jump out to a 47-39 lead with 7:28 left, but the Blugolds' D kicked it into gear, and they tied the game at 49-49, with 3:19... a layup put UWEC up by two, at 51-49, with 1:56, and then they canned their 11 of 12 from the charity stripe to win it...

Michelle Burns has 18, Heidi Arcisewski has 12, and Hannah Mesick pulls down 9 boards to lead UWEC. The Pointers were led in scoring by Britta Petersen's 13...

UWEC moves to 14-3 overall, and 8-0 in conference. The Pointers are now 15-2 and 6-2....

Bulk, you finally beat me to the punch.  Good recap.  I was a little nervous at the half after the Pointers erased the EC 7-point lead in the last 45 seconds of the 1st half.  Good job of EC keeping their composure then and when they fell behind late with 7min left.

Didn't this game remind you of the WW game?

I posted from the library on campus!  ;)

UWEC has improved on its free throw shooting the last few games, to up the % more in lines of last year, when they were a good shooting team from the line... That could be a key down the stretch here, and come tournament(s) time...

Not sure, but it must have been a fairly-well officiated game tonight, or even-steven, since I only heard Coach Egner yell once all night. Ha.

Good crowd of 1,000+, made up of high schoolers and their respective teams... You think that was planned for this big game? But they weren't really that noisy, considering...modified... I think the youngsters were the ones stamping the feet on defensive stops, though...

Lots of line changes tonight, too... seemed like they came in waves more quickly than in previous games, too, as they looked to exploit weaknessess.... Pointers got a mismatch on Witt a few times late; I thought that might do us in...

I am kind of hoping for the same thing to happen.   So far the home team has won every game and I think it is going to end up that way.  EC still has those teams on the road.  Hopefully, they can take one of those games.  Hypothetically, I would feel more comfortable if EC had only 4 regional losses (compared to 5) if they happen to fall in the conference tourney.  Since WW and Point didn't lose any nonconference  games, they are in much better shape if the 14-2 3-way tie were to happen.  However, don't count out other conference schools from stealing one from the top 3.  Stout looks like they have improved from earlier on in the year.

Platteville's last lead was 4-3 and the WARHAWKS made 7 of the first 9 shots to lead by as many as 15 in the first half before the Pioneer closed to 37-31 at the half.  Platteville scored the first two baskets of the second half and closed to two 37-35 but WHITEWATER responded with a 17-3 run and twice reached 30 point leads before the horn sounded at 85-63.

Nicole Bundy and Tiffany Morton each scored 16 points and Kelsey Hendrickson added 14 to lead the WARHAWKS.  Lyndsey Buechner, Megan Schmidt and Morton pulled down 7 rebounds apiece as WHITEWATER finished with a 42-30 advantage on the boards.    WHITEWATER's pressure defense again caused alot of problems for the Pioneer who finished with 28 turnovers, 11 of which were steals.

Hold serve in Superior and Saturday's match up with Eau Claire looks pretty interesting.

I was hoping Point would win the match up with EC but we benefited from either outcome just not as much with EC winning.
