Conference Tourney (If the season ended today)

1  Eau Claire  8-0
8 Superior     1-7

4 Stout           5-3
5 La Crosse      4-4

3 Stevens Point  6-2
6 Platteville       3-5

2 Whitewater    7-1
7 Oshkosh         2-6

The Champ

Lot of BB to played yet before those pairings happen.

That may be exactly how it plays out, but all four matchups could be totally different for the WIAC tourney...

Champ-

I don't think Mr D. is predicting that those standings will be the final ones.  He posts those standings after each set of conference games.  Its kind of nice to know where everyone stands throughout the last few weeks of the season.

Whitewater fans--all WIAC fans--will enjoy the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel story

Although, it might add some questions about our current health care system and what drives it and its costs...

Mr. Downtown

Great story from MJS!

I don't think anyone can ever question the desire of Coach Carollo and UW-Whitewater.

Thanks for the link, Phoenix.

I know Mr. D does these - my only point was that it's a little early.  We're only half way through the season.  In another couple weeks, the projected pairings will have more meaning.

Wow - Point absolutely tanks in UW-Zero. Anybody at the game got info on this one other than the obvious that they couldn't throw it into the ocean?

Mad defense? Poor decisions? Outbreak of smallpox?

Doesn't appear to be anything else interesting going on. I'm sure EC will take care of business vs. LaX. This could be one of those haunting losses down the road come "who's gettin' in" time.

Mr. Downtown

Point was flat. Oshkosh played good defense, but honestly, that was the poorest performance by a top 10 team I've seen since Stout blew out Oshkosh by 30 when the Titans were #1.

This is a back breaker for Point, and I think it takes them out of the running for the WIAC crown.

UWEC hangs on over UWL, 60-53.

For most of the 1st half it looked like it would be an easy win for EC.  They were up late in the half, 27-11, and had even missed many inside shots.   Then all of a sudden, UWL goes on a 7-0 run and ends up only trailing 27-18 at the half.  UWL came out blazing in the 2nd half and tied the game at 31 five minutes into the half.  EC crept the lead back up, but UWL came storming back and took a 1-point lead with 5min left.  However, like they have in a few games lately, EC responded well and closed out the Eagles.

EC needs to work on their passing.  It has not been good this season.  Just too many turnovers.  They have really struggled with the press.

FT shooting was not good today, with the exception of Zenner.  EC did so well against Point the other night from the line but they struggled yet again this afternoon.

On the bright side, EC showed yet again that they will not cave in when a team makes a run at them late in the game.

Anderson had a good game off the bench for EC in the first half.  Zenner did well late in the game on FTs when EC was trying to ice the victory.  Heidi A. lead the Golds with 16pts and 9rebs.

Mac Hunter put the team on her back in the 2nd half and lead UWL with 19pts.

Yes, it seems Point is in a bit of trouble.  They need to close out the season well.  They can't afford any more losses to teams in the bottom of the conference.

The Point loss to UWO is a perfect example of why I posted earlier that there is a lot of BB left to play.

Upsets happen.

UWL plays tough once again.

Heartbreaking for those young women to "nearly" knock off one of the top teams, but come up short again.  If they can grow from the experience - this could bode well for this team in the future.  Only 2 SR's on the team - both starters - but they return the other 3 starters and the rest of the team.  UWL could produce an upset before the end of the this season...

That was my first time this year seeing the UWO women. They played "Schumacher ball" to a T. It was maximum effort on the helping man-to-man D; good rebounding; a nice rotation of nine fresh, fundamentally sound players; and they hit enough shots to keep the effort going on the defensive end.

The final score wasn't 5-0 like I think Schumacher would prefer, but that was an impressive showing by the young Titans. To hold Point to 36 points below its season average and avenge an earlier 32-point loss at Point is amazing. Equally amazing is that Point had two points with just over 10 minutes remaining in the first half. Sure, Point missed some shots, but nothing came easy.

For those of you who have seen UWO at its worst this season, why the ridiculous blowouts? Why the other losses under 10 points? Hard to imagine the team I saw last night being capable of losing by 32 to anyone, based on the defensive end. I saw a 40-minute defensive highlight and a "Schumacher Way" recruiting video being shot. It just doesn't equate.

The two teams traded baskets to begin the game  before WHITEWATER went on a 19-2 run to begin what was to become a long, ugly afternoon game for the YellowJacket.  A 23-2 run later led to a 61-17 halftime score.  The rest isn't worth relating.  The final was 92-41.   Five WARHAWKS scored in double figures.  Nobody played more than 18 minutes.  Superior is bad.

Voice of the Titans

At UWO, one team was ranked #10, the other played like it.

Just a fun game to watch. I'm surprised SP didn't look to Kranz more. She seemed to be the only one that wanted to play, but only got 5 shots, compared to Neuenfeldt who just kept chucking them up. But the key was the boards. Not letting SP get second-chance points was a biggie. Couple that with good defense and contested shots, and SP couldn't get into their press early. Again, a fun game to watch, and a big win for a young team.

OshGuy - I'd say it comes down to having a young team. Relying on so many freshman, and now a new post player will make it tough. But it seems they are buying into it all now. I'd bet after playing so well against EC, and then laying an egg at LX, they got a good tongue lashing and had a "fun" week at practice. But if they can keep this up, who wants to play them in round 1?
