I also posted this on the Pool C board.

Women's Pool C Bid Picture by conference (through Feb 10).

Records in parenthesis are in-region records.  For most conferences, I listed teams that have no more than 4 in-region losses.  Some of the top conferences, I listed teams with 5 in-region losses.  A point to remember is that a lot of these teams will probably obtain a pool A bid.  Pool B conferences have a "B" listed beside the conference abbreviation. Corrections are welcome.

Point gets a desperately needed win over Eau Claire 57-43.  No details posted yet.  Point had to get a victory over EC or WW (and preferably both) to improve their Pool C resume should it come to that.  That Oshkosh loss will haunt them if they don't get in.

Point does win at home over EC. Defense completely shuts down EC. EC didn't even shoot the ball, the threw it at the basket. Burns keeps them in it. Houghton scores 8 in a row to help Point pull away late in the second half...during the time the scoring table completely pulls a 4th and 26 (that should make sense if you're a Packer fan - or I could've referred to is as a "Favre" (see the word interception)).

With the score noosed at 33 each, Houghton hits a pair of throws after knocking down two 3's in a row. There's a timeout and your score is 41 -33 Point...right? Nope. The officiating, which was pretty terrible (numerous delays to get the number right on fouls) doesn't notice the discrepancy...the scoreboard operator doesn't notice. The SCORE BOOK doesn't notice. Play continues and it's absolutely pandemonium. Parents of players ready to riot - your score 39-35. Point takes a full and after about TEN minutes the play by play finally proves the error (which obviously was on video). Not sure how that would have worked out had they not changed it - can you even play under protest?

Regardless, EC just couldn't throw it in the ocean and honestly (I'm sure I'll get some poop writing this) I'm really not impressed with EC. This is the team leading the conference? Really? I expected Duke out there. They must be working that Zorn magic up there in Eau Claire. Not taking away from there athleticism, but I think Point's a better team. Good game to watch though.

I think regardless of the next couple of games, WW goes 1, EC 2 and SP 3. Should be an exciting tourny! Oh, and for you breast cancer awareness folks - SP wore PINK UNIFORMS! WOW!

EC is just way too inconsistent on the road offensively.  Usually you know what your going to get from their defense whether at home or on the road.  But its the offense that you don't know whats going to happen.

People get all excited about the scoreboard but fail to realize that while it is the offical time it is not the official score.  The official score is kept by the scorer in the book.  So he/she would have had to enter in eight points on the pair of free throws for the official score to be incorrect.  They may not have noticed that the timer made a mistake putting the points on the board but I doubt he/she entered eight points in the book.  Of course you want to have it correct and if the timer and scorer are communicating they'll discover it pretty quickly.  Also scoring errors are correctable at any time prior to the officials leaving the gym even if one is discovered after time has expired.  So there's no reason for absolute pandemonium, near rioting etc.   Though people get all excited and intense.

As the timer in WHITEWATER  I'll state a team's score after every point is scored and the scorer will state his score so we'll know immediately if something is amiss.   It's really a matter of the staff at the table working as a team.

BTW, the officials don't keep a foul count so if there were delays to get that straight look at the scorer.

#2018
The WARHAWKS quickly dispatched Platteville by holding the Pioneer to 22% shooting and 18 points in the first half while draining 6 of 13 three point attempts and reeking havoc with the Platteville guards with their full court pressure defense for eight steals several of which turned into easy baskets.  It wasn't pretty for the few Pioneer fans who made the trip.

Behind Lisa Wubben Platteville shot much better in the second half but the WARHAWKS did as well and though Platteville reduced the deficit to under 20 points in the first few minutes of play there was little doubt of the outcome.

Kelsey Hendrickson led all scorers with 24 points including 5 of 7 from beyond the arch.  Tiffany Morton added 16, Megan Schmidtt, who continues to come off the bench and give the team solid minutes, added 15 and Heidi Sonntag chipped in 11.   WW distributed the ball well with 24 assists on 32 made baskets and their defense forced 26 Pioneer turnovers, 16 of which were steals.   Eight different WARHAWKS recorded steals.

Wobben, after getting only 2 points in the first half, finished with 21 to lead Platteville.   She's a nice player.

They didn't make a mistake with the 8 points - sorry if I didn't make it clear. It was just a few minutes of people going nuts. Point (Houghton) was on an 8-0 run. Houghton hit two threes and it was 39-33. She then sank some throws and the score should have read 41-33 but it read 39-35.

It was crazy watching parents and fans - seriously thought they were going to take the floor. The thing was is there was a time out and the play continued. The error WASN'T fixed. EC played dumb and Point sat there with their shoulders shrugged. I think they even had it wrong in the book!

Regardless, after several tense minutes during a Point timeout they got it right. I was waiting for coach Egner to throw out the challenge flag. As far as the fouls, it was the official not remembering what number of jersey or player they were calling a foul on.

Just sad to see in a big game. A lot of time was wasted and players sat around waiting for refs to get it right.

So the scoreboard operator put two UWSP free throws on the UWEC side of the scoreboard, and then it got fixed.  Big whoop.

No problem.  Actually now that I've read you post again it's clearer to me than the first time.  Sorry about that I wasn't meaning to jump on you or anything.  It sounds like there was some sloppiness all the way around.  Fortunately it was all straightened out before SWAT had to be called in.  :D

I've sat at the table in WHITEWATER as either the timer or scorer for a number of years and after awhile you simply begin to marvel at the stupid things spectators shout and do.  Sometimes it simply amazes me.

Oh and Thank You Pointers.  Hopefully you've got that out of your system now. ;)

JB - it was kind of a big deal when you were at the game. People were excited and during a serious game it was sort of detrimental to either team with the delays having to wait around...just explaining the atmosphere that's all. Ok with you tool bag?

Looks like both games at Point will be rather exciting this Saturday. Looking forward to some packed houses! Should be a pretty big whoop!

Last time I checked, Point and Stout are tied win 9 wins and 4 losses in the WIAC.

Stout plays at LaCrosse, River Falls and at Eau Claire.

UWSP plays UWW, at LaCrosse and at Platteville.

Seems to me that what happens in the last three games will determine who the #3 and #4 seeds are.  It's entirely possible for one of our teams (or both) to win all three games.  It's also possible to lose all three games.

I am looking forward to an exciting tourney, and hopefully Stout will get the opportunity to travel to WW to play for the WIAC Tournament Championship!!!
