The Champ

I wasn't able to attend the game yesterday - or even listen to it.  So all I can do is look at the stats to try and figure out what happened.

Stout was 28 for 59 from the field (9 of 19 from beyond the arc) and UWEC was 25 for 57 (7 of 14 from beyond the arc).  Usually that means that Stout should win.

Problem was that Stout only had 9 (9 of 15) points from FT's and EC had 20 (20 of 27).

12 more FT's attempts contributed to a 3 point win for EC... :(

Even with the disparity in FT's, Stout coulda/woulda/shoulda pulled it out with a higher shooting percentage from the line.

I hope we get a rematch to avenge this close one... ;)

Not much to say about yesterday's annilation of RF.  I'm sure they've had better efforts but yesterday they were just plain bad.  Unable to throw the ball into the ocean it wasn't long before the WARHAWKS got up by double figures over them and lead just grew and grew after that.

Morton had her way in the low post with 25 points and 13 rebounds.  She's a legit POY candidate.  Sontag finished with 17 points and Thill added 12.

The most interesting thing of the day was something that I'd never seen before.  It happened at the start of the second half when the referee, rather than hand the ball to Thill to inbound, blew his whistle, turned and bounced the ball onto the court to Hendrickson.  Hendrickson held it for a second with a bewildered look on her face and then tossed it back to Thill.  That prompted the referee to recognize the error and reach to take the ball out of Thill's hands but she immediately tossed it back to Hendrickson and the half began.    :D

This is unreal!  How did this official make this mistake!  These officials are paid to do a job and be professional and this official was clearly not professional in this instance.  I am not sure if the official was just kidding around to start the second the half or just made a mistake.  Either way it is just wrong.  If he just made a mistake, then he should have blew the whistle and corrected it once he knew it, instead of just letting Thill throw the ball back to Hendrickson.  This is very unprofessional and wrong.  This speaks how bad some of the WIAC officials have been.

Just go across the River and you'll see even worse officiating in the MIAC.  :D

I just expect the officials to take their job seriously and do their job.  I don't think that is too much to ask.

I don't know that I'd go quite as far as to call it very unprofessional.   It was actually kind of amusing.   The humor was compounded by the fact that as near as I can tell aside from the official, Thill and Hendrickson myself and the scorer are the only five people to have noted it.   None of the staff or players of either team appeared to, no spectators shouted anything, nothing.  It just happened and then the half started.

Just so I'm clear of my intention.  It wasn't to start a negative discussion on officiating in this league or any other.  The officiating in this game wasn't any different that any other this incident aside.   I don't think it had anything to do with the outcome.  It was just one of those weird things you see when you think you've already seen everything.

I just expect posters to have reasonable reactions to perfectly innocent (and kind of amusing) mistakes that occasionally happen in all walks of life.  I don't think that is too much to ask.

Honestly, if you want to find a reason to indict the entire officiating roster of the WIAC it probably wouldn't be hard to find events to try make your point.  Don't tell me that one ref throwing the ball to the wrong kid for an inbound means we should toss out the whole bunch.

I did not mean to imply that at all the officials are bad.  I believe I said in my first post that some of the WIAC officials are bad, not all of them.  This was an example of an official losing focus and I just think that cannot happen in any game.

Right now, I think that both EC and Point are in pretty decent shape for a pool C bid should they happen to lose in the WIAC tourney.

shootfromthearc

I would love to see this conference get three teams in the tourny. I think it's pretty possible. If the scenario ended up somehow with Point and EC in the title game, I couldn't imagine all three not getting in. Should be an interesting tourny. And as I said before, I certainly wouldn't overlook Stout in this thing.

Let's bring the trophy back to Wisconsin!

That would be the best scenario to get three in, since WW has the strongest Pool C resume.  I don't think that WW is going to lay down for the good of the league, do you BW?   :D ;)

If Point would lose a semifinal to WW, that might put them on thin ice, but I think (hope) they'll still make it.

No, I don't think we'll be doing that.   We've got a score to settle with Platteville.   Nobody has forgotten last year's tournament debacle.

Alright, 1st RF couldn't have played worse against WW.  It was terrible, sitting there broadcasting the game I didn't even know what to say.

2nd, im sure you all knew this but, Whitewater is for real. They are going to win the WIAC tournament and make a run for the National Title.

3rd, RF caught a break not having to go back to WW.  Im not sayin that they will beat EC, but i think they have a shot.
