Yeah, I like this stuff.
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

I'm on board. Keep going; this is the best conversation we've had on here in a long time.

Correction though
"4th, 1st, 4th, 4th, 1st, 1st, 1st, 4th which equals an average finish of 2.5.  And these were all done with MT recruited players."
Kelsey Duoss?
Cue the "that's disrespect to the other Devils" line. It's not; but it's fact.

You're both making some good points along the way.

Just trying to give a little balance to the board. Since I don't have a team/coach to fight for ... I've gotta go with what I know.

Good stuff. I like your input.

One little story about Coach T. Last August my family and I were on vacation. The night before we got home, a major storm happened in the area and our home was 2/3rds destroyed by blown down monster trees.

I learned about it on the way home. I called my friend Mark to tell him about it.

The next day Mark and a dozen football players came over to help us move the contents of the house into a storage unit. It was a major help.

When you have a friend like Mark, it's pretty easy to step up and speak positively about him.

On a side note, my family bought a new house and is anyone looking for a recently remodeled lake home near Menomonie?  ;D

Great talk on the COY issue.  My take is that Kerry Corollo has taken a program in shabbles to the top of the WIAC in rapid fashion.  You don't need a badge or trophy to signify your worth. Results on the court speak much more loudly.

While you guys continue to hash over this year's COY choice, Kerry and her staff are preparing the Warhawks for Friday night's Sweet 16 game against Simpson.  I guess at this point you could call Carollo the WIAC Postseason Coach of the Year.

billys

Agreed.
I won't budge on the fact I believe she definitely should have gotten it last year and maybe should have gotten it this year but didn't because the old guard doesn't particularly care for her.

I can't fault you for not knowing the REAL FACTS, but Kelsey Duoss was heavily recruited by Mark Thomas.

However she was offered and accepted a full ride scholarship to a DI school.  After 1 year there, she decided that she really wanted to go to Stout - which is one of the best schools in the country for her major.

Mark's recruiting while she was in HS was a key part of that decision to transfer to Stout.   One thing about Coach T - he rarely burns any bridges with recruits.

While still living in Menomonie, I have traveled with Mark while he's been recruiting.  Now that I live SW of Rochester, I've met Mark on recruiting trips - including 3 or 4 times to see Julia Hirssig from Rochester.  I like to take credit for recruiting Julia - but I think Coach T impressed her a little more than I did... ;)

Just remembered, and thought I'd better post this, just in case you suddenly realize that Lindsey Gerber was a transfer from UWW...

Lindsey was also recruited by Mark while in HS.  Her sister has now joined her at UW Stout.

Just wanted to "give you all the facts"... ;D

This actually happens with many kids that transfer from D-I to D-III -- they end up with schools that went after them originally.

We recruited Kelsey Hendrickson heavily out of high school but she went the scholarship route initially, then walked on at the UW and when neither panned out she ended up at UW-W

WIAC men's Player of the Year, Matt Goodwin, is another example.  We were all over him in HS but he went the JC to D1 route initially.

You never know what's going to happen so you just keep working kids and planting seeds.

Just Bill

Katie Webber at UWSP was a very similar situation with D-II Michigan Tech.

The REALLY frustrating thing is when a team recruits a kid out of high school, loses them to a scholarship program, gets a release the next spring that says they want to transfer, and then lose them to another school again.

It's bad enough losing a recruit once, but to lose them twice really hurts.

Thanks for the confirmation that good initial recruiting can lead to good/great players transferring to your school!!! ;D

I know how college recruiting works. I've recruited collegiately for just under 10 years; I realize she was recruited by Mark ... heck every transfer back and their sister were at some point likely recruited by half of the WIAC schools.

And, yeah she came back for her major; as she should. You were arguing their place over Eau Claire during the timespan; my point (to balance the argument) was that the 3-year reign directly coincided with her arrival. A kid that based on talent definitely didn't belong in the WIAC ... but did for other reasons. I believe he's good with not burning bridges; but there's definitely some good fortune involved in this instance.

If we really got into it and broke down recruiting, bulk should probably talk about the incredible advantage Stout has with their marriage with the Viking Club and bringing an unlimited number of prospective student-athletes right to their campus; not even mentioning the other ties. Then you should probably argue Eau Claire's beautiful campus and variety of majors ... and as you did rich history.

Overall there's so many factors in all of these; it's stupid to argue about who the better coach is. Different situations, different challenges, and on and on. I guess we just need more reps from other schools, cause it seems like all we ever hear about is the greatness of one.
