Congrats to Haley Houghton and Michelle Burns on being named to the WBCA Division Three All-Region 7 teams.  Two great players who received a great honor!

One? Is that one Whitewater, Eau Claire or Stevens Point?  ???   ;D

Personally, I really liked the squad in LAX this year.

I know how college recruiting works. I've recruited collegiately for just under 10 years; I realize she was recruited by Mark ... heck every transfer back and their sister were at some point likely recruited by half of the WIAC schools.

And, yeah she came back for her major; as she should. You were arguing their place over Eau Claire during the timespan; my point (to balance the argument) was that the 3-year reign directly coincided with her arrival. A kid that based on talent definitely didn't belong in the WIAC ... but did for other reasons. I believe he's good with not burning bridges; but there's definitely some good fortune involved in this instance.

Maybe everyone "recruited" Kelsey, but the fact remains that she came back to Stout.  Which basically means that she came to the realization that she should have gone there in the first place.  Give credit to the young lady for admitting her mistake.

Yes Kelsey was a great talent, but based on your "bolded" comment above, many WIAC players from the past evidently didn't belong in the WIAC.   Consider some from recent WIAC history (2000 to date) - Michelle Burns, Vanessa Schley, Kristi Channing and Jayme Anderson from UWEC, Kay Mikolajczak from UWO,  Kari Groshek and Amanda Nechuta from Point - and realize that these teams also did quite well during these lady's time there.

FWIW - Good fortune is often the result of alot of hard work.

LOL...  This whole debate started because bulk19 took offense to my saying the Coach Keri from WW was more deserving of COY...

I think you're referring to Mark Thomas in the post above.  Yes Mark is recognized by many as being a very good coach in the WIAC.  That's what happens when you ARE the winningest coach in conference history.  Part of that record is longevity, but a winning percentage that high over a 20+ year coaching career is an EARNED record.

But I think I've done my part in "repping" for other schools this year.  I think my comments on Lois' LaCrosse squad and Keri's WW squad are well documented.  Feel free to reread my comments on both teams...

Champ -

I never stated who I thought should have been the COY of the year this year; you assumed that, because I stuck up for Coach Englund after the manner in which you so easily and quickly ready to diss her, that I thought she should have won it this year. Not the case. Never said Coach Englund should have won it this year, and I don't think you said I said she should have, either... Just pointing out her accomplishments this year bettered those of last year's COY...

I would have voted for Carollo this year, but you read way to much into what I didn't say. I am at a loss as to why Coach Egner won it (and, if anything, would have a bias toward her over Coach Carollo since I attended UWSP as well).

As far as Coach Thomas's accomplishments, yes, they are to be applauded. He's rightfully earned the respect... And yes, he does have the most career Ws in the conference, at 372-190 over 21 seasons, good for a 66.2%... But the UWEC coaches both trump him in winning percentage over the 20 seasons they have been at the helm (Lisa Stone, 12 seasons, 277-59, for 82.4%, and Tonja Englund, at 166-61, good for 71.3%...)

Combined, the two Blugold coaches are 443-120 over those 20 seasons, which is a 78.7 winning percentage, once again trumping that of Stout's... Toss in the interim year of Lisa Herb, at 17-10, and the numbers still fall the 'Golds way...

Although you don't want me to share my rebuttals online with you so the others can't see the facts, and would rather I email them to you privately for purposes of continuing this debate, I'll just leave you with a few more facts, and end my comments with these (without bringing in the Pointers, who have two national championship banners hanging in the Berg gym):

Number of conference titles over the last 21 seasons? UWEC 9, Stout 5... National tournament appearances? UWEC 14, Stout 9...

And last, but not least, with all due respect, Coach Thomas might get to 400 wins sooner than Coach Englund does 200, but he'll have to coach at least three more years to match the Blugolds' three Final Four appearances over the last 21 years...

Seeing as how we've gained support from the other posters to continue this debate on the forum, I have no problem discussing it here.  Last year when you went on one of your tirades, there were some comments to take it offline.  I was merely trying to follow the wishes of the group here.

Once again, I was comparing Carollo to Englund THIS year.  I was making a case FOR Carollo.  If you agreed with me, than why did YOU decide to change the discussion to MT and LAST year?  Probably because the points I was making were fair and accurate - and the truth hurt.

I've already given Lisa Stone credit for her absolutely phenomonal run as head coach of the Blugolds.  Who could ever question what she did?  Not me.

But how limp wristed can you be by trying to use Lisa Stone in a vain attempt to make Tonya Englund look better???

Once again, I'd like to ask - and have you to respond to, Tonya's record with players SHE recruited vs. Mark Thomas' record with players he recruited over the exact same period of time.

I can only surmise that you've too embarrassed to discuss this period of time because the facts are that Stout has won 4 WIAC Championships, 4 WIAC Tournament Championships. 4 NCAA Tournament appearances and 2 Sweet 16 appearances over that time period.  Please post what Tonya has done with only players SHE recruited over the same period of time.

You used Lisa Stone's record to try and bolster up what Tonya has done.  It's great that EC had Lisa - and she did a wonderful job.  But the EC program was a MUCH stronger program when Lisa took over than Stout was when Mark took over.

As you so kindly pointed out, Lisa Herb led EC to a 17 - 10 record before Lisa Stone's career at UWEC began.

Mark took over from a team that hadn't won a single game the year before - and hadn't won a conference game for 3 whole seasons.  It would be 4 seasons, but in the 83 - 84 season they managed to beat UWEC for their only win of that season.  Stout only had ONE winning season in the history of the program before Mark turned it around.  Stout WAS the doormat of the conference.

You mentioned those 14 NCAA Tournament appearances - once again in a weak attempt to make Tonya look better.  Please tell us all how many of those were accomplished by Lisa Stone.  How many consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances was EC in before Tonya took over?  How many NCAA Tournament appearances has Tonya had without Lisa Stone recruited players?

I know the answers, I just want to see if you do... ::)

If you would take the time to read and comprehend the history of both teams, you might start to understand what is going on.  Mark BUILT the Stout program from nothing.  Tonya hasn't even been able to maintain EC's winning tradition that was handed over to her.

So, now that I know we have the board's blessing, feel free to respond to your hearts content.

I really enjoy a good debate... ;D

Your squad has the late game tonight....  Can you stay awake long enough to keep score?  Someone of your advanced age might have a problem staying up past 9:00 PM.... ;D

Good luck tonight, and may all of WW's 3 pointers go straight through the hoop!!! ;)

The UWW vs. Simpson winner will take on Depauw, a 68-63 winner over Amherst.

UWW up next.  Good luck to the Warhawks!

janesvilleflash

WW broadcast not coming in very good, so listening to the s
Simpson guy. Worst announcer I've ever heard.
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

buf

WW up early, 21-9.

janesville-

If you want, you can go to d3hoops frontpage and click on broadcasts.  Find the UWW game and click on the link.  The broadcaster is pretty good.
