You've brought this up before?  I haven't noticed :).  Point played their first game at home, then went to Wash U.  After that game they returned home.

Maybe once or twice... ;D

I stand corrected - they played 3 of the first 4 games at home.

Still not to bad for a team that was swept by their conference champion during the regular season, and failed to earn the right to play the conference champion in the WIAC tournament because they lost in the semis...........

Yes, the Stevens Point fans hang their head in shame everytime they look up at the big National Championship banner in their gym.  ::)

Seriously, it's been seven years.  You need to let it go.

We can all second quess all we want. That's part of this site. Other than the early loss to WW and the "flubbed" game to RF, Three of those 5 losses were to Point. EC totally dominated WW in the last two games. Does being part of the process get you a "good" break - maybe. Curious to see the next D3Hoops rating to see how WW and EC are ranked.

"Flubbed"game at RF. If I remember right EC beat RF by 4 at EC, then lost to them in RF by 6. In the Conf tournament it was a six point game with 3 or 4 minutes left. In the WIAC this year there were teams that beat all three teams that are in the NCAA. Don't forget how strong LX and Stout were too. It was all about match ups. Some teams match up better with certain teams.

The WIAC one of the best D3 Conferences in the Nation. Do not be surprised if all three teams have a great weekend.  Just like the regular season these three tema can beat ANYONE when they are on there games.

So if your Point you don't get to play the easier teams. While the WW seed is bothersome to EC fans, SP fans should be real unhappy. I guess time will tell. EC and SP can still go deep into this thing.

I am sure that Point isn't upset, actually they should be happy.  They get to play at home and got a fairly easy pod (compared to others in the midwest).  Maryville could be a bit tricky.  They have a good record versus D3 teams, however they do come from one of the worst conferences.  EC defeated Concordia (WI) by 22 points on a nuetral court earlier this season.  I am still not sure how Moorhead got into the tournament with a 17-7 regional record and not a high SOS.  Somehow they get a lot easier 1st round matchup than does UWEC.

Why the hit-and-run post?  Stick around and join the conversation.

Definitely agree with the statement on moorhead.  I was very surprised to see the miac somehow get two teams in.  Concordia lost to St. Bens 3 times this year by an average of 15+ points.  Doesn't make much sense especially when you look at UWEC's season and that they were put into a tough bracket.

That being said looking forward to seeing the games up at St. Bens.  Looking forward to a possible St. Bens-Whitewater matchup.  It will be interesting to see how this CSB team stacks up against a good team.

I wouldn't be so quick to discount Concordia and the fact that they got in.  I still feel that, when they played their best, they were by far and away the best team in the MIAC.  For whatever reason, they just didn't play their best in the two regular season games with CSB although the MIAC Championship game was much, much closer than the final score would indicate.  Anyone who thinks UWSP has an easy pod may want to think again.  That Concordia defense will get on you and smother the living daylights out of you.

EC has a really tough bracket, but I do not think that any team has an easy bracket.  This is the NCAA tournament.  No gimmes.

I was at the EC loss to RF as I have been at all EC games but 3. I called it "flubbed" because EC essentail wasted most of their possession time trying to get the ball upcourt. This was not necessarily due to the tenacity of the RF press but the bad "break the press" play. It was the only time all year they had this problem. The play was not used after the RF game. EC went back to Witt or Missy F. bringing the ball up directly. That is why I called it flubbed". I do acknowledge that RF made many 3pt shots that day, shot very well and made most foul shots. EC beat themselves by running a "break the press play" that they were not that used to running. Call it different if you may - but that's how I saw that particular game.

When EC and RF played in the WIAC Tournemnt, RF played a spectacular game. Very quick hands - tenacious and really kept EC tied up - on the EC side of the court. EC went through the press when it was applied like butter via Witt and Missy F  not the "beat the press play".  My two cents right or wrong.

I didn't mean to say that it was easy in the way that it is filled with poor teams.  At this point all teams in the tourney are good (at least in this part of the country).  But when comparing it to other pods, the Point pod is one of the easiest that I have seen.

Do I think Point is going to stroll through, hammering their opponents this weekend?  Probably not, but it could happen.  I think those teams would hang around into the 2nd half, but eventually Point would win comfortably.  Of course I thought that Point would roll Norberts last year and the opposite ended up happening.

I would never have brought it up now except for this post:

QuoteI just do not see how EC will be behind WW.  The beat them 2 out of 3 times and played a tougher schedule.  The thing that hurt them could have been 1-3 record vs SP while WW was 1-1.

I clearly stated that life ain't always fair. ;)

Congratulations to everyone who received first team all conference.  Mackenzie Hunter was selected as player of the year and scholar athlete.  Shirley Egner was picked as coach of the year for the 2nd straight season.

I also really like the sportsmanship award that is in its second year.  Shows that not everything is about wins and losses, but also how you play the game.  Congratulations to all of those winners as well.

I'll add my congratulations to all those selected.

Usually, regarding your comments on those named to the sportsmanship team, in this case you are not wrong.  I echo your congrats.

Just wondering if someone had time if they could run the efficiency numbers for player of the week the last two weeks...I was thinking Stacia Nemitz  had a good shot/efficiency score each week..against the best in the league 3 of 4 games...I know that 2-0 seems to be somewhat of a prerequisite, but that almost discounts the players on teams at the bottom of the league most weeks..also curious she didnt receive HM..I think she ended the season 5th in boards and 8th in scoring..and some big games against the best...just wondering how she stacked up...thanks for your time in advance..and good luck to all of your teams tomorrow night...go WIAC

When you get smoked by over 20 it's hard to argue most valuable/player of the week. Baker missed one shot all week and helped lead her team to the championship; the week before Morton put up 27 and 19 against her Pioneers. You better do something AMAZING if you're getting cracked by 20 a night.

As far as HM goes; I would venture to guess there was a chance she wasn't nominated. Typically teams that finish low in the standings limit their nominations knowing they'll likely only get one kid honored. The numbers for Grantman and Nemitz were very close and being a senior maybe her coach felt Grantman deserved the mention.

Congrats to the all th all-conference kids (and everyone in general for a great season). Good thing for Mackenzie Hunter the coaches vote and not this board!
