Regarding UWL....

I find it tough to see a drop to the bottom of the conference this year.  I definitely agree that consistent scoring is going to be what will hold this team back and that of course it is a huge loss to graduate the talent they did last year.

But,  combine some strong younger players getting some early season experience with the addition of arguably the MIAC's best defensive player last year and I see a promising season for this group.

It will be rocky as can be expected when you have to play tough competition night in and night out, but this team will be very strong defensively which should give them opportunites to hang around in games and get some Ws.

I hope you're right. I just don't see any way they finish ahead of the top 5. So I'm thinking 6 is their ceiling and will be what those bottom 4 have to shoot for.

I'm just not sold on their returning kids. Churchill is a solid starter and the transfer will definitely help; but after that we just haven't seen anyone prove it at this level. Taylor Larson should be decent at the point (but she's probably not a scorer). Lang had a couple decent games and will need to probably get 10-12 a game for them. Besides that Lindsey Latrenta (sp?) is the only one I remember with any game experience. It's one thing to be young with experience ... but I don't think they're necessarily that young and they're still pretty inexperienced.

The hardest part, I think for them is, and I mean this in no way as a knock to them ... they got a lot of what they got because they had Hunter and Wahl on the floor. Can they get themselves open? Can they be the best player on a good team in the WIAC? Those are the questions I have a hard time answering for La Crosse.

I hope they can do it because they were so close to turning the corner. And Bears rule (can't believe I said that) is right; can't predict cause we have no idea who did what in the off-season. And he's also right; there are rosters full of GREAT people in this league. Again; I mean none of this as disrespect for their coaches or players. A lot of where teams are picked says more about the other teams in the league than it does about them.

Bears rule

Does anyone know when the WIAC comes out with their preseason Coaches/AD rankings?.

I think we can debate this stuff all day but these voters should know more than any of us.

I have not looked at each roster. Maybe we will learn who had the best recruiting class or transfers that will have an inpact.

I think WW has a good recruiting season.

Does anyone have an opinion on other teams transfers or recruits?

I know Coach T is very pleased with his recruiting class, but haven't had a chance to meet or watch any of them yet.  That will happen in three weeks for me.

But on another note, I just noticed this little tidbit on Stout's website:

QuoteUW-Stout was No. 25 among women's basketball team honored by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) for finishing as one of Division III's top 25 academic programs.

The Blue Devils tallied a cumulative team grade point average of 3.364 to finish No. 25 among Division III programs. UW-Stout was the only Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) team to make the list and one of two state schools to earn the award.

As much as T wants good basketball players, he takes academics very seriously.  First of all, that's why these recruits should be coming to school and secondly, he doesn't like playing nursemaid to athletes that don't/won't give the same effort to their education as the game.

Bears rule

Well said CHAMP, Coach T has a good program. To have talent on and off the court must be a Coached dream.

Just announced 7/10...

UW Stout Women's BB had the 25th best average GPA in DIII!

QuoteThe Blue Devils finished with a cumulative team grade point average of 3.364 to finish No. 25 among Division III programs. UW-Stout was the only Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) team to make the list and one of two state schools to earn the award.

The other WI school was UWGB with a 3.317 in DI.

You just noticed the GPA? Or did you forget you already posted this information in July?  ;)

If memory serves me correctly, the Stout team finished first once, within the last 10 or so years... UW-Oshkosh, Stout and UWEC have all been on the list twice, I think (unofficial results)

I'm old and senile, but regardless - it's worth bringing up again... ;D

Point gives UW-Milwaukee all they can handle tonight in Milwaukee.

Point played extremely hard, shot terrible, and still had a chance. They were 3-for-25 from 3 and shot about 50% at the line. Milwaukee's size could have had something to do with the 3-point shooting but either way; the Pointers showed well.

To be fair, and not to overstate, Milwaukee is going to be pretty bad this year; I mean could be REALLY bad. Parkside beat them on Sunday and their best players didn't hit shots either.

Anyone else playing an exhibition?

Point definitely made a good showing at UW Mil.  They were actually up by 1 point with about 9 minutes left in the game, then UW Mil went on a 10-0 run.  Compared to Stout's performance at Marquette on Saturday, Point kept their composure much better.  But you're absolutely right Billys, the Panthers are going to be pretty bad this year and Marquette will be decent in the Big East.

The only other big exhibition game left is Oshkosh at UW Madison this Sunday, which I believe will be just as ugly as the Stout-Marquette match-up, if not worse.

Yes, does anyone know when WIAC media day is. I thought it was usually November 1.

Most D-III conferences scrapped media days this year to save travel money. I don't know that the WIAC did that, but I would suspect that's the case.

If they scrapped it football they won't be holding it for basketball.

I would have thought Stout would have faired better with their entire frontcourt coming back.  Looks like they just picked it the same, for the most part, as last years conference records.  I don't know what I am surprised with more, SP being first or LAX being fifth?  Should be a pretty interesting season.
