Who is the gentleman at Stout games who provides all the sound effects? What's the story here. Thanks.

Bears rule

The WIAC went 8-3 this weekend. Stevens Point lost to the #6 ranked team. Not a bad loss at all. Stout beat St Bens, St bens had beated EC by about 25 earlier. WW takes Simpson down. LX rocks both teams.

There is one more nonconference game, Monday EC plays.  Here are the preseason records.

2009-10 Standings (Through 11/29)

River Falls   4-0 -no real impressive wins
Whitewater 4-0 -several impressive wins
La Crosse  5-1 - no special wins
Platteville  4-1 - no special wins
Stevens Point   4-1 -one good win, one good loss
Superior 3-1 -no special wins
Stout 3-3 -one good win
Eau Claire   1-3 -no special wins
Oshkosh  1-3 -nothing special

I think it is time to make your official preseason predictions.

I will start with several groupings.

1 thru 3- WW,SP and Stout-not sure of the order. These teams have had the best preseason when you factor in who they play.

4-6-this will be the best battle. EC, LX and RF. On any one night they might challenge the big three
7-Maybe Plattville will join this group above.

8-9 Osh and Sup. Both improved.

Bears-

-It was St. Norbert who beat EC by about 25.  Without looking, I think St Bens' beat EC by about 7-8pts, although they were up by double digits throughout most of the 2nd half.

- Its interesting to see those standings.  With the exception of Superior those standings look like the exact opposite of what you would see around a decade ago.

Saw the Stout - St Ben's Game. Stout looked very good. St Ben's is a very good team . St Ben's led for most of the game  until about 6 minutes or so. DeWitt stepped up for Stout. Julia H. was superb. There are some new players on Stout who are excellent defensive players (number 2 in particular) - could be why they won. This Stout Team "is" better than the teams from the "Dorrus" years - not that those teams were bad - they were very good. Remember who Stout lost to at the start of this Season (one DI and one D2 school). SP and Stout for sure will be in it to the end. EC is not as strong as Stout - though last year they were able to contain Julia H with Plendil and Messick. As stated in another post, EC will have big trouble if they continue not to defend the 3 point shot.

EC loses 72-66 to Gustavus.  EC out-shot and out-rebounded their opponent by a large margin.  The killer was the turnovers (28 for EC and only 8 for GAC).  You're just not going to win many games with a -20 turnover margin.  Four players had at least 4 turnovers.

EC did play a lot better in the 2nd half and overall looked better this game than the St Bens game.

Does EC only have 9 players?  Heard that from someone at the Stout/St. Scholastica game.

That's not much depth, if true.

Their roster lists 14 players. ???

WARHAWKS' Heidi Sonntag this week's WIAC player of the week.

Heidi Sonntag, Senior (Milwaukee/Wisconsin Lutheran), Guard of UW-Whitewater
Sonntag was named the Most Valuable Player of the Simpson College (Iowa) Classic that was held Nov. 27-28 and helped UW-Whitewater to three wins during the week.  Against Buena Vista University (Iowa), she scored a game-high 20 points on seven-of-eight shooting from the field and grabbed six rebounds, had two assists and two steals.  The following day against Simpson, she scored 13 points and had five steals.  Earlier in the week against Coe College (Iowa), Sonntag poured in a team-high 24 points and had four steals, two assists and one blocked shot.  In the three games, she converted nine-of-12 three-point field goal attempts.

I was told by two different people that they only had 9 players suited up for their game on Friday. ???

That's why I asked the question.

EC has a full rooster of 14-15. There are 3-4 bench-players hurt. I believe that 11 players were suited who could play. The turnovers were unbelievable. Young team shows some confidence from time to time but was pretty shaken in the first half. An un-defended 3 pointer was the shot that gave the Gusties the win. Also Plendil is playing only about 1/3 the time. Does nothing for team or building or her confidence - though she is obvious a real team player. Messick and Plendil are super strong underneath.
At the start of the second half, EC got the underneath game going and came flying back. Plendil was taken out for quite a while, the underneath game was forgotten and the Blugolds began to trail by 10 or so. Adjustments were made last January to that great team to seed the underneath game for this year. Wonder what happened. EC seems to have no real offensive plan these days. Season is not so new anymore (1-4) and possibly falling more. It is a young team with great potential. It may be time to let the talent play and grow. Maybe Plendil is hurt. She wears a shoulder brace.

JMM is correct.  EC has 14 listed on their roster.  I believe 4 of those are injured right now.   EC did have 18 players on their roster last season.  I'm not sure why the lower number this season.

EC gets a win over UWO 52-44.  Close game throughout, with EC usually leading by about 5 points.  Both teams very sluggish offensively in the 1st half.  The score was 20-17 at the half.  Things picked up a little more in the 2nd half.  UWO had the lead down to 1 late in the game, but EC made the plays they needed to make to pull out the victory.  A good contribution by freshman, Bingea.  Linder played well down the stretch.  Still too many turnovers.   EC needs to find a way to cut those down.

WHITEWATER 68
LaCrosse 50

WHITEWATER never trailed in the game.  In the first half the WARHAWKS overcame 32% shooting from the field with 11 offensive rebounds and 11 steals to lead 30-23.  That's as close as the game would be as the WARHAWKS built a double digit lead early in the second half and maintained it to the finish.

Dana Thompson led all scorers with 29 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.  She also had an assist, a block and two steals.  Kelsey Hendrickson and Nicole Bundy each added 9 points.  Hendrickson, Chantel Burg and Heidi Sonntag each had 4 assists and Hendrickson recorded 7 steals.

Now, now, let's not go spreading falsities.  It was 2-0 UWL to start.  Both teams have some work to do, UWL obviously with more.  They have got to be stronger with the ball.

Point with what appeared to be a comfortable win over Stout at Johnson Fieldhouse.  (I don't think I've ever seen a sentence like that before.)  Champ? Stoutguy? Can you fill us in on any details?
