I'm not sure if this has been discussed on here (i dont think it has), but according to the WIAC site, the women's conference tournament takes place on Wed, Fri, Sun.  I believe this is the first time that this has happened.

True. I think the reasoning was two-fold: No school will have to run a mid-week doubleheader in the event they are hosting both men's and women's games, and FSN can now cover both championship games with one TV crew.

JB,

I would also have to think money has something to do with it.  DHs make less money than single games do.  I have not seen one gym that charges double the price for a Saturday ticket compared to a Wednesday ticket.

After all, every single game last year during the WIAC tournament was a DH.

Looks like La Crosse let a golden opportunity slip away yesterday against Stevens Point.  Would have been a big win in conference to give them a first round bye and a home game in the second round.

A loss gave them one more regional loss, meaning they will most likely have to win the tournament to make the NCAAs, an extra game in the conference tournament to a team that has depth issues, and most likely the task of winning two road games to make the NCAAs.

Looks like what everyone saying about not believing in La Crosse until they win a big game was true.

From the Stevens Point Journal police blotter today:

Damage to property: A 52-year-old Stevens Point woman reported Friday morning that someone had smashed a taco into the back door of her home in the 900 block of Third Street.

At first glance, I thought it was some Pointer fan, whooping it up after an undefeated run through the conference schedule.  ;)

But then I saw it was reported on Friday morning, which means it might have been my old neighbor. Ha.

We shall see how the tournament shakes out... UWL hung with the Pointers for most of the game, but just didn't get it done. I think UWL has a big win in it yet this season, but the Eagles have to get by Oshkosh first on Wednesday...

Credit Point yesterday, who has big-time experience in big games. (UWSP becomes the 6th team to run the table in WIAC play, which is a credit to this team, seeings Point's had quite a few good ones under Shirley Egner's tenure... It also says how tough this conference is, too.)

I'm not sure who will win the POY, but I did single out Britta Petersen, who overall may not have the stats to match other individual candidates.... But Point plays well as a team, does the little things well, and as a team leads most of the team stats... And, of course, in Ws...

Will be interested to see how my UWEC Blugolds do on Wednesday against UWRF, and which one shows up? They split the season series, each team winning on the road... Blugolds have not defended the home court this season, 5-5, as well as in seasons past...

Tough game for UWL yesterday.  They started out very slow, but then put a stop to any offense the pointers threw at them for a period of about 10 minutes in the 1st half.  The problem was they didn't take advantage of the solid defense and rebounding as they also struggled to score points.

UWL beat themselves with too many unforced errors and turnovers, but give point credit for taking care of business.  When they get their offensive motion going it is tough to stop and fun to watch.

This UWL team wants another shot at Point more than anything.  It's going to be a tough road to get there, but if they can the game a week from today is going to be a great one.

I'll bite my tongue on any comments regarding the Pointer coach.

Both teams started slowly with the Yellow Jackets on top 9-7 after five and half minutes had been played.  A layup by Mary Merg gave the WARHAWKS their first lead 13-11 at the 11:59 mark and they would never trail again.  A 11-2 gave the WARHAWKS a 39-21 lead and they led 49-31 at the half.  The lead only grew in the second half reaching a high of 34 points twice before Superior cut into it against the WARHAWKS reserves and the game finished 87-64.  The WARHAWKS used seventeen players in the game and twelve of them scored points.

Dana Thompson finished with a game high 23 points (10-13 from the floor).  Megan Theune  and Merg each finished with 12 points.  Melissa Olsen's stat line read 5 points, game highs of 12 rebounds, 6 assists and a pair of steals.  The WARHAWKS outscored Superior 21-3 off of turnovers, 22-14 in the paint and 22-5 off the bench.

Hailey Hart had 16 points to lead Superior.  Bri Davis added 14 and Kelsey Thingvold 12.

The WARHAWKS took care of their business and got some help from Point and Eau Claire to secure the #2 seed, a bye and home court on Friday.

I'll jump in on this one.  When i first covered Stout games I found myself disliking the way that Coach Enger carried herself on the sidelines.  After years of watching her coach, talking to former players about their opinion of her, interviewing her on our radio show several times, and just seeing how her program runs, I can now say that there is no coach in the conference that I respect more.

I don't doubt her coaching ability, and while I don't like the way she carries herself on the sidelines, I can't say I would act any differently. I try not to harp too much on anyone's coaching style. However, I don't know that that was where the comment was pointed towards. Moving on.

On the playoffs: UWL needs to focus on Oshkosh Wednesday. Oshkosh has played them tough this year, and UWL will have to take care of business (and don't turn over the ball) to win a game they definitely should win. As far as having to play on the road if they do win, they have played great on the road all year, so it may not be as big of a bummer as it seems.

Appreciate the comment from someone with much more knowledge of the conference than myself.  I'll take your word for it.

Looking forward to the games this week.  Would be nice to see someone other than Point win the tourney so this conference gets a few teams in the national tourney.

As it stands now I would say UWL is on the outside looking in and WW is in with a good showing in the semifinals.

Playoff scenerios:

EC over RF
LAX over OSH
SP over EC
WW over LAX
SP over WW
or
RF over EC
LAX over OSH
WW over LAX
SP over RF
SP over WW

One note , SP is due to lose a game. Could EC beat SP? Only if they limit tirnovers to 8; shoot 40%; and play no 3 pt. defense. As the season shows, not likely. Otherwise I don't know wo can beat SP. Only say EC becasue of hieght.

Out_Of_My_Kitchen

I like to live by its hard to beat a team three times in one year argument.

OSH over LAX
EC over RF
OSH over SP
EC over WW
EC over OSH

EC, WW, and SP in the tournament!

Now I doubt this as a whole is going to happen, but it is an option!

badgerwarhawk

I think WW and Stevens Point are in the post season regardless of what happens in the conference tournament.  LaCrosse may have to win their first conference tournament game to get in but I like their chances of getting in regardless.  Eau Claire will have to win the automatic bid to get into the post season.  A loss in the conference tournament would give them 11 losses on the sesaon and that would be a tough sell.

I don't see Oshkosh advancing to the conference tournament championship game.  In fact I don't see them beating LaCrosse in the first round.

I think SP is in.  LAX needs to make it to the Championship game to have a chance.  They have very good wins, but would have 7 regional losses.  That is right there on that bubble.

Whitewater should be in good shape.  Even with a second round loss they would be 20-6 overall. They beat Calvin, George Fox, and Illionois Wesleyan out of conference.  I will say this though, if they do not get in, they can look back to November 20th as the reason why.  I don't want to downgrade Wisconsin Lutheran, but there was no way Whitewater should have lost that game.

And the comment about hard to beat a team three times in a year was more a joke than anything.  There is a reason a team wins twice during the regular season.

JMM

EC could have a problem with RF. Can't figure out why but for the last few games play well in first half and bust in the second. If they were to beat RF, I think if anyone could take SP, it would be EC. I don't see it because they just can' put an outstanding game together.

Can LAX beat WW?
Can WW beat SP?
