WARHAWKS: 58
Oshkosh: 49

I just lost a post I spent a bunch of time typing so this will be short.

The Titans scored the game's first four points but the WARHAWKS responded with an 8-0 and with the exception of one tie held a lead which never exceeded six points until Megan Wenig's consecutive three-pointers regained the lead for the Titans who finished the half on a 10-0 run for a 26-21 halftime lead.  The second half was crazy.  The two teams tied seven times and exchanged the lead eleven times.  With Oshkosh leading 49-48 and a shade under two minutes remaining Courtney Kumerow sank a layup to put the WARHAWKS on top and another Kumerow basket and 5-5 from the free throw line preserved the win.

Kumerow led the WARHAWKS with 15 points and rounded out a double-double with a game high 10 rebounds.  Abbie Reeves came off the bench to score 11 points.

Wenig led the Titans with a game high 17 points.  Katie Kitzke added 11.

The game was won at the free line as the WARHAWKS sank 21 of 23 attempts to 10 of 12 for Oshkosh.

Heard it was quite the atmosphere last night. Hopefully these two can go at it one more time.

Look for RF to make a run in the WIAC Tounament. They have been getting better and better. EC will bow out superfast. Unfortunately EC didn't start playing all 3 seniors until the last few games. EC is much improved because the 3 seniors are playing. Leadership next year will go to Courtney Lewis. She appears ready for it. I like WW to win the WIAC Tourney but never rule Shirley and the pointers out. I also have a feeling about RF.

WARHAWKS: 66
River Falls: 60

The WARHAWKS opened the scoring when Sam Newhouse drove the lane and scored.  River Falls quickly answered with a basket to create the first, of what would be seven ties in half.  The WARHAWKS regained the lead  on Steff Glynn's layup but held it for only a minute and half when River Falls went ahead 10-8 with fifteen and half minutes remaining in the half.  Though they were tied on numerous occasions the WARHAWKS could not regain a lead as the Falcons held the advantage until Amy Mandrell's jumper with a minute to play made the halftime score 30-29.  As the score suggests statistically the two teams lines read very similar.  The WARHAWKS scored on twelve baskets including a three-pointer while the Falcons hit on ten without a three-pointer.   The Falcons held a 9-5 advantage from the free throw line.  The WARHAWKS scored the first basket of the second half but the Falcons answered and the two teams tied twice in the first couple minutes.  At that point the Falcons took control and held a lead, which reached a high of nine points at twelve minutes, until Mandrell made a layup to tie the game and Sam Quandt's layup put the WARHAWKS up 56-54 with less than seven minutes remaining.  River Falls would pull to within a point 58-57 with just under five minutes but were unable to get any closer.

The WARHAWKS finished the game shooting 40%.  River Falls shot 44%.  The WARHAWKS out rebounded the Falcons 38-31 however it was the 19-7 advantage on the offensive end that led to a 20-4 advantage in second chance points.

Courtney Kumerow and Kaitlyn Thill each scored 12 points to lead the WARHAWKS.  Mandrell added a season high 10 points.  Lisa Palmer's 7 rebounds were a team high and Thill's 5 assists were a game high.

Brittany Gregorich led all scorers with 13 points and rounded out a double-double with a game high 12 rebounds.

Otherwise:

Oshkosh: 55 ... Megan Wenig 18
Stout: 40 ... Sami Schoeder 12
Titans up 33-19 at the half.

Eau Claire: 55 ... Courtney Lewis 11
Stevens Point: 66 ... Sam Barber 18
BluGolds hold a single point lead at the half but Point scores first in the second half and builds a 17 point lead.

LaCrosse: 60 ... T. VanDusseldorp 21
Superior: 55 ... Sally Linzmeier 19
LaCrosse up 13 at the half, YellowJackets drop third in a row.

Anyone else think its bogus that UWO is still not in the top 25 despite being the 2 seed in the conference tournament? I get they have 5 losses but it really seems they should be up there.

I believe I saw something on the "scroll" on the news this weekend that Oshkosh set a WIAC record going from one WIAC win in 2011-12 to twelve WIAC wins in 2012-13.  Impressive to say the least!!!  That type of turn-around is usually saved for the NFL...

Thrunt -- the two aren't related. Our voters don't really care who won the tiebreaker in the WIAC standings because a national ranking is based on every game, not just the conference games.

That also includes Stevens Point's win against Calvin. Only two teams have beaten Calvin this year. Oshkosh doesn't have that kind of non-conference win on its schedule.

I get that. In fact I think that Calvin win is carrying the day for Point. For me, at this point of the season Non-Con games are a distant memory and if I were voting I would weigh recent games far more heavily than games played in November and December. Obviously the voters have a different view and they are entitled to it. The nice thing is that we'll probably get to see round III on Friday.

This is true -- if UW-Stevens Point were not playing up to that standard, then nobody would care about their win against Calvin. But the voters recognize that being tied for second in the WIAC is a very, very strong position. I would say UW-SP is not contradicting that November game on a neutral floor.

Mr. Ypsi

UWSP also gave defending national champion IWU its worst loss of the season.  As the season has gone on, that has been tarnished somewhat (IWU now has 7 losses, and long ago stopped receiving any Top 25 votes), but IWU DID beat UWW.
