Welp, WIAC fans, Stout, LAX, Point and WW have all reminded us why we love the WIAC. So here are my uninformed thoughts as we turn the corner on  another Wisconsin Winter and WIAC Woman's basketball season.
WW over Stout - Stout will be WIAC champ next year #41, #13 #23 #4.... - #41 gets my vote for the second bet player in the WIAC this year.
Plat over RF.
Will Oshkosh recover and beat EC? Nope...Eagles very one dimensional and EC knows it. Eagles easy schedule at the start of the year is showing. EC coach has rediscovered her seniors who will deliver.
Sup and Point - a game Shirley would love to win and she is Foxy enough to do it - Point wins.

Note- look for Point to be in the finals of the championship next week.  More after the final weekend....

I remain uninformed

Don't you mean Titans?

Unfortunately #13 is a senior this year. You are correct on the other 3, very solid players.

Psaw! Thought 13 was not a senior.. Anyhow, still think Stout has alot to look forward to next year. Jenna is a treat to watch under the basket. Fantastic basket sense and shot.

Wonderful to see Superior win the WIAC outright! Figured they would lose to Point and was pretty certain OSH would fall to EC. The EC/OSH game was not as close as the score indicates. EC did a good job of stopping OSH scoring underneath in the second half.  Taking that away really takes away their only offensive strength. They are not good outside shooters. The game got close in the end but never was really in doubt as EC made all but a few of many free throws in the last 2 minutes when OSH started to foul relentlessly to get back in it. EC seniors were outstanding.

So we have WW at OSH and Point at Plat.

I look for Point and OSH to win but it will not be easy for OSH who has skidded out of the NCAA tournament by losing its last 3 games and needs to win  the  WIAC tourney to get there. WW is the hottest team in the WIAC in the last 4-5 games. I believe WW had the 17th hardest schedule in Woman's D3. OSH had a pretty easy schedule in comparison. WW has a grand coach who will make it super hard on OSH.

I still think Point will get to the finals with another win over Superior in the second round. Superiors had the easiest schedule n the WIAC. It is wonderful to see Superior as the regular season champs.

Stout: 66
WARHAWKS: 69

Jenna Goldsmith's eight points paced the Blue Devils who jumped out to a 10-5 lead in first few minutes of the game before the WARHAWKS made a mini-run and took an 11-10 lead on Riley Stewart's three pointer after six minutes of action.  Stout regained the lead on their next possession but Brooke Trewyn's seven consecutive points gave the WARHAWKS an 18-13 lead a minute and half later.  The Blue Devils would tie the game 18-18 later but Jaya Perkins scored on a layup and the WARHAWKS would maintain a lead which rose to a high of eleven points before the half ended 37-28.  Abbie Reeves (11) and Trewyn (7) led the WARHAWKS while Goldsmith's 10 points and 6 rebounds were highs for the Blue Devils.  The WARHAWKS capitalized on 14 Blue Devil turnovers for a 17-9 scoring advantage and hit 6 three point baskets.  Trailing by eleven points after the first three minutes of the second half the Blue Devils heated up and over the next six minutes made a 14-2 run to take a 46-45 lead.  Malia Smith put the WARHAWKS back on top with a layup and they maintained a single digit lead until the Blue Devils went back on top 64-63 with under a minute remaining.  Trewyn would tie the game with a free throw and after she stole the ball an intentional foul was called.  Trewyn made both of those free throws and Andrea Meinert sank two more when she was fouled on the ensuing inbounds putting the WARHAWKS up 68-64 with twenty seconds remaining.  Another free throw by Smith pushed the lead to five points before a Blue Devil basket at the buzzer created the final score.

Abbie Reeves: 15 points, 2 steals
Brooke Trewyn: 14 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block, 2 steals
Andrea Meinert: 8 points, 11 rebounds
Reilly Stewart: 4 assists
Team: 13 steals, 20-6 bench points

Stout:
Katelynne Folkers: 20 points, 3 assists, 2 steals
Jenna Goldsmith: 14 points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals
Kyleigh Hebert: 12 points, 2 assists

I look for Point over Superior. Shirley will figure out how to win. I don't think the OSH victory helped OSH confidence and probably took much out of the Titans. It is also a long bus ride to Eau Claire. I think EC will win for the 3rd time over OSH. It is very tough to win 3 games in a year over a team. I think OSH is still hurting - barely beating a WW a  .500 in the WIAC.

I would hate to have seen what the score would have been tonight if Oshkosh had played a tougher schedule, had been playing with confidence, didn't have such a long bus ride, and wasn't hurting!!!!   ::)

Hats off to OSH who pulverized EC and looks back on track. Hats off the Sup who pulverized Point. Would be nice if NCAA had two WIAC teams in the tournament. . Should be a battle on Sunday. We know a team will get there. As Hoopsville noted last week, probably not 2 from the WIAC in the tournament. If OSH keeps it going would expect them to beat Superior. Watch for  those "Homer" calls from the refs up there above HWY 2. Watch out for Stout next year.

Voice of the Titans

Heck of a week by Oshkosh. Don't know many teams that could go 3-0 against the teams that put an 0-3 record on them to finish the regular season. I can say I was worried going into the WW game, but some Twitter karma went their way. Was surprised by the margin of the EC game. And, from the looks of the PBP of the Superior game, it would have been a fun one to be at. If I read it right, the game was scoreless for a 3:30 span of the second half. Hopefully UWO doesn't have to travel far. I could take the 3.5 hour drive to Wheaton.

OSH verified they were the best team in the WIAC the past week. Defense very impressive. Will need to continue it in the NCAA. My bet is they go to Wheaton.

With the Tommies hosting in St. Paul, a possibility, but a little to  far away. Watching the last EC game and the SUP game, OSH could advance to the Sweet 16 if they hold their defense together. Hopefully it is a long run for the Titans.

Good luck Titans.

D3hoops.com projects them in Wheaton facing DePauw with Wheaton and Wisconsin Lutheran rounding out the regional.  DePauw is a tough draw right out of the gate.

UW-Oshkosh to St. Thomas is officially only 281 miles so that's well within the 500-mile bus limit. So I think that's a reasonable possibility. It will depend how much the committee cares about using the the 500-mile limit to diversify the brackets.

Some years, they seem to keep teams as close as to their home no matter what. It keeps travel shorter, but it usually means all teams in a pod come from the same region.

Other years they take the approach that as long as it's less than 500 miles it's fair game to move teams around. Essentially stating there's no difference between 45 miles and 450 miles. That allows more diversity in each pod. I always prefer it when the committee takes this approach to create more unique match-ups.

The one team I would have looked at and said, "No thanks!" to would have been North Central. Run and Gun, trap-trap-trap, we'll commit 40 fouls and see if the officials will call 25 type of game. Reminds me too much of the late 90's Stout teams. Contrast of styles indeed.

I'll get the battle cry of the night warmed up by yelling, "GET BACK!!!!"
