Sparked by Brooke Trewyn's 25 points and 12 rebound double double the WARHAWKS ran their season win streak to five games and their out of conference streak to 17 games by defeating Ripon 70-54 in the opening game in LaCrosse.  Trewyn scored 8 of the team's first nine points leading the WARHAWKS to a twelve point 27-15 in the first quarter.  However the WARHAWKS shooters cooled off in the second quarter scoring only seven points and allowing Ripon to cut the lead to five points 34-29 at the half.  Trewyn went 7-8 from floor for 15 points to lead the WARHAWKS who shot 47% from the floor.  The lWARHAWKS pushed the lead back into double figures in the first two and half minutes of the third quarter.  Ripon did reduce it to a single digit 45-37 a couple of minutes later but Trewyn hit a jumper pushing it back into double figures where it remained the rest of the quarter which ended with the WARHAWKS up by twelve 55-43.  Ripon cut that lead in half after three minutes of the final quarter but the WARHAWKS responded with a 14-1 run over the next four minutes to take their largest lead, 69-50 and coasted to the easy win.

Simpson (1-3): 50

For the second time in a week the WARHAWKS met the Storm in a neutral gym and for the second time emerged with a win.  Simpson got the first basket but the WARHAWKS tied it on their possession and took a lead they wouldn't surrender on the next.  The lead remained in single digits until the three minute mark when Kaelyen Lesniak scored on a fast break layup pushing it into double figures, 21-11,  and when the quarter ended the WARHAWKS were up thirteen 26-13.  The lead remained in double figures through the second quarter and when it ended the WARHAWKS were up 39-23.  Brooke Trewyn's 18 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals led the WARHAWKS who had 12 steals as a team.  The WARHAWKS pushed the lead into the twenties early in the third period and led by twenty-seven 60-33 when it ended.  Simpson would get no closer than twenty-one in the final stanza and the WARHAWKS lead reached a high of thirty-two with less than a minute to play.

After the Kohawks scored Stewart scored five straight giving the WARHAWKS their largest lead of the game 36-23.  However over the final three minutes the Kohawks would go on an 8-0 run and close to within five 36-31 when the half ended.  Stewart and Meinert both scored 9 points to lead the WARHAWKS.  Brooke Trewyn and Malia Smith each added 6 points and Trewyn had 3 of the team's 7 steals.  The Kohawks heated up in the third quarter.  Though the WARHAWKS maintained a lead for the first nine minutes the Kohawks kept reducing it and with a minute to play converted a layup off a steal to tie 48-48 and a pair of free throws to take their first lead 50-48.  After Smith made a pair of free throws to retie the game the Kohawks scored the last points of the quarter to lead 52-50.  In the first five minutes of the fourth quarter the two teams tied three times and exchanged the lead on three others until Reader's layup made the score 63-61. WARHAWKS (10-1): 72
Capital (4-7): 58

The WARHAWKS overcame a cold shooting afternoon with pressure defense, rebounding and timely three point shooting to defeat Capital 72-58.  It was Capital on the board first and the two teams played back and forth with four ties and three lead changes.  However the WARHAWKS got a pair of free throws from Riley Stewart and Brooke Trewyn in the final minute to eke out an 11-10 lead at the quarter's end.  The two teams exchanged the lead in the first couple minutes of the second quarter before Capital gained a 16-15 lead and gradually built it to eight 25-17 over the next four minutes.  Gradually reducing the lead the WARHAWKS eventually went ahead 28-27 when Becky Raeder hit a pair of free throws.  Raeder scored five points in the half's final minute and half ended 31-29 WARHAWKS.  Trewyn's 10 points and Raeder's 8 led the team who shot just 30.6% including 0-7 from beyond the arc.  The WARHAWKS maintained their lead through the first five minutes of the third quarter before Capital fought back and went on top 41-40.  A pair of baskets by Andrea Meinert regained the lead for the WARHAWKS who behind three three pointers by Emily Kraft built it to ten points 55-45 when the quarter ended.  Capital would get no closer than eight points in the final quarter.

WARHAWKS (11-1): 65
La Crosse (6-6): 62

The WARHAWKS led by seven 23-16 after one quarter but the Eagles closed to within one 25-24 with seven minutes remaining in the half before the WARHAWKS closed out the half with a 12-0 run getting points from six different players and held a thirteen point lead 37-24 when it ended.  The WARHAWKS shot 50% from the field including 3 of 6 treys and went 8 of 10 from the free throw line.  Andrea Meinert's 11, Becky Raeder's 8 and Reilly Stewart's 7 led the WARHAWKS.  The second half however was a different story as the WARHAWKS struggled to score shooting only 21% from the floor.  The WARHAWKS maintained the lead which as late as the four and a half minute mark was still in double figures however the Eagles used a 10-0 run, in which the WARHAWKS went 1 for 6 shooting and had five turnovers, to close the half and pull to within three 47-44.  After a minute or so of play in the fourth quarter the Eagles had tied the game.  Though the WARHAWKS quickly regained the lead the Eagles weren't going anywhere and tied the game again 55-55 with three and half minutes remaining.  The two teams went a combined 0-7 from the floor after that and went to overtime.  The Eagles took a pair of one point leads in OT until Malia Smith sank a pair of free throws with two and half minutes remaining giving the WARHAWKS the lead 59-58.  Olivia Fleckmann and Reilly Stewart each made baskets, Stewarts a three pointer, to create a six point cushion which the Eagles would reduce to three before missing a three point attempt at the end of the game.

Eau Claire (7-6): 37
WARHAWKS (12-1): 67

Both teams started the game shooting poorly and it took almost three and half minutes for the first points to be scored when a steal by Brooke Trewyn led to a basket from Andrea Meinert and staked the WARHAWKS to a lead they would never surrender.  Eau Claire's scoring drought continued until about six and half minutes had expired when they scored on a pair of free throws.  These would be the only points scored by the BluGolds as they went 0-8 from the field, turned the ball over 8 times and trailed 17-2 when the quarter ended.  The game never got much closer as the BluGolds, though their shooting improved, struggled to score connecting on just 5 of 17 shots and scoring only 13 points in the half.  Meanwhile the WARHAWKS, followed 50% shooting in the first quarter with 46% in the second one and ending the half up 32-13.  No BluGold players scored more than two points in the half.  The WARHAWKS were led by Riley Stewart's 9 points.  The BluGolds never got untracked shooting 17% in the third quarter and scoring just 7 points.  The WARHAWKS also shot poorly in the quarter hitting on only 4 of 14 shots though two were three pointers and the team hit on 6 of 8 free throws to increase their lead to twenty-eight 48-20.  The WARHAWKS lead was never less than twenty-four in the final stanza.  The WARHAWKS committed just 7 turnovers in the game forcing 21, including 13 steals, by the BluGolds and gaining a 21-0 point advantage off of them.

Malia Smith: 11 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals
Reilly Stewart: 11 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals
Brooke Trewyn: 10 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals
Becky Deichl: 9 points, 3 rebounds

Andrea Meinert suffered what appeared to be a knee injury during the game.  If I was the BluGold fan who shouted "call the travel" as she lay on the floor in significant pain I'd be ashamed of myself.  Hopefully Andrea's injury is not as severe as it looked.

Is there anyone at all interested in discussing WIAC womens hoops?

Stout (5-12, 1-5): 63
WARHAWKS (16-1, 6-0): 74

The two teams played back and forth in the first quarter.  Neither team was able to create any significant separation between them.  The Blue Devils biggest lead was three points.  The WARHAWKS built five point leads twice in the quarter the last time being with just under a minute remaining.  But the Blue Devils scored last and trailed by three 20-17 when the quarter ended.  The second quarter was more of the same with six ties and seven lead changes.  One or two points separated the two through the quarter until the Blue Devils, leading by a pair, scored the last basket and took a 39-35 lead into the locker room.  The Blue Devils shot 53% in the half but eleven turnovers led to the WARHAWKS scoring 16 points and the WARHAWKS bench outscored the Stout bench 16-7.  Becky Diechl's 10 points led the WARHAWKS.  The third quarter played out like the first two.  The Blue Devil's went up by five early in the third quarter but the WARHAWKS rallied.  The two teams were tied three times and exchanged the lead four times.  With the two tied 48-48 with just over three minutes the Blue Devils were able to close out the quarter on a 6-3 run to lead by three 54-51 at it's conclusion.  Malia Smith's basket and a pair of free throws from Brooke Trewyn opened the final stanza and ignited a 15-0 run that sealed the ninth straight WARHAWKS win.
