The Champ

Stout by 19 over Manchester in the Posada Royale Tournament in Thousand Oaks, CA.

Hirssig leads all scorers with 20, Gerber and Stokke in double digits with 19 and 12 respectively.  Edwards has 10 boards and Hirssig just misses the double double with 9.

Stout will take on John Carrol in the Championship game today.

Despite shooting 33% from the floor and 58% from the line, UWW wins over Calvin, 67-53.  Looks like it was a sloppy game as both teams had 25 turnovers a piece.  Morton had 19rebs.   UWW had 24 offensive rebounds.

Stout lost their game with John Carroll yesterday in OT.  I believe the score was 84-82.

The WARHAWKS (11-1) opened the game with a 12-0 run as it took Calvin (6-4) just under 4 minutes to put their first point on the board.  But Calvin regrouped and though WW did lead by ten points at 7:24 they closed to within six points,  31-25, when the half ended.  However the WARHAWKS took the lead to double figures at eleven points in the first three and half minutes of the second half and though Calvin got it to nine points on two occassions it grew to as many as sixteen before the game ended 67-53.

The WARHAWKS had four players finish in double figures led by Tiffany Morton who had her seventh double-double of the season with 14 points, 19 rebounds.  Kelsey Hendrickson (13 points), Hiedi Sontag (11 points) and Nicole Bundy (10 points) also scored in double figures.  The WARHAWKS outrebounded Calvin 49-33 including 24 on the offensive board.  Both teams had problems controlling the ball as each finished with 25 turnovers.

Heard Edgewood gave UW-Stevens Point all they could handle until the Pointers finally pulled away late in the 2nd half. Edgewood's Megan Scheele still got her share of points, but per Edgewood release, it was Ashley Averkamp's turn to have a big-scoring night.

UWP SID

UW-Platteville plays host to UW-Stout Saturday, the first time the teams have met since the Blue Devils contributed $600 to the Shoot A Three for Bri campaign, helping Bri Klaas in her battle with cancer. To read more about the generous act, and an update on Bri (who I'm happy to report had 18 points Tuesday and 6 assists this afternoon): http://www.uwplatt.edu/athletics/basketball/womens/0809/12-30klaas.html

I wasn't aware that Stout did that, but am not surprised that Coach Thomas would do that.  He is really a class act and this shows he is as good a person as he is a coach.

Coach Thomas is a great coach, an outstanding person, and a good friend.   Now, while I am down in Mexico for the next few weeks, someone needs to help me convince him to leave his best player on the court.  BDB, Champ, somebody work with me.

I guess even coach Thomas is allowed one mistake.
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

Maybe you should get your butt out of Mexico and get back up here... ;)

I won't be at the Platteville game - hosting Mrs. Champ's family Christmas on Saturday... :)

UWW over RF, 66-52.  RF clearly outshoots UWW, but has 34 turnovers.

Point hammers UWO, 71-31.  Only 31 points on your home court.  C'mon

The Champ

Stout over the Pioneers, 73 - 52.

Hirssig dominates with 27 points, 10 boards and 2 steals.  Edwards contributes 10 points, 7 boards and 2 steals.

Stacia Nemitz led the Pioneers with a double double - 14 points and 13 boards.  Nemitz's older sister played for Stout - wish she would have followed her sister...

In the other WIAC game, UWL downs Superior 78 - 51.

Both WHITEWATER and River Falls started poorly.    WHITEWATER because they were shooting poorly and RF because they were turning the ball over and not getting shots.  After about 2 minutes RF scored first, one of three 2 point leads they would have in the half, but the WARHAWKS answered when Hiedi Sontag scored three points the old fashioned way.  RF's last lead was 9-7 with 13:34 on the clock.  WHITEWATER finished the half with a 23-8 scoring run and a 13 point lead, 30-17, when the half ended.  WHITEWATER shot just 27% from the floor but took 21 more shots than the Falcons who shot 46% from the floor.  WHITEWATER scored the first 7 points of the second half to go up 20 and 13 points is as close as RF got after that.

Both teams had problems controlling the ball as the two combined for 54 turnovers.  RF had 34 to the WARHAWKS 20.   Though the Falcon did outshoot the WARHAWKS percentwise the 21 more shots taken in the half was the difference as both teams took 27 shots and each made 13 in the second half.  Those were largely the product of RF turnovers and solid offensive rebounding by the WARHAWKS who finished the game with 19 offensive boards to only 14 on the defensive side.

Tiffany Morton led all scorers with 23 points.  She also recorded 9 rebounds, 5 blocks and 3 assists. Kelsey Hendrickson finished in double figures with 14 points.  Alise Holst led River Falls with 16 points and Tiffany Gregorich added 14.   RF had match up problems with WHITEWATER'S post players, Morton and Dana Thompson, who shot 16 of the 20 free throws attempted.

The WARHAWKS never trailed but Oshkosh hung tough for the first half trailing by only three points, 33-30.  However the WARHAWKS made a 17-5 run to start the second half and built the lead to as many as 25 points before the final of 65-49.  Kelsey Hendrickson found her touch from beyond the arch (5-8) and led all scorers with 21 points.  Nicole Bundy also scored in double figures with 10 points.  Tiffany Morton only took six shots and was held to a season low 6 ponts though she did pull down 9 rebounds to lead the team in that category.  No Oshkosh player scored in double figures.

Surprisingly the stat sheet provided by the Oshkosh stats people last night indicated that Trisha Thill and Shannon Moore both played despite having graduated last year.  ???   I did notice the official box score has been corrected however.

That was from the roster downloaded from WW. Quite the fun time trying to get everything situated during and after the game.
We started that WRST Sports sh**.
