Other games from today:

UWL nips UWO, 52-48, despite Hunter and Wahl going a combined 8-30 on FGs.

Point hammers Superior by 30-some points

UWW comes from behind to defeat Stout 69-63.  Morton with 20pts, 11rebs, 6blks

EC jumps out to 19-5 lead ... then hangs on for the "W". RF really caused EC's veteran guards some problems with their press.

Mesick is coming on ...they need to get her more touches. Archie hits clutch free throws at the end or this one goes in the "L" column.

It should be a great game Wed. at Berg.

It should be a great game, for sure.  I see Tonja figuring out a way.  Don't worry about me, though, I will be on that favorite bus ride to Superior.  Imagine my welcome back yesterday to this great climate.  Two Blue Devil losses, and then, during my absense someone doing the teaser for our sat. show pointing out on the air that I am not, in fact,  the guy making it happen, after all.  8)

I feel really bad for you, Stoutguy.  A double-hitter loss and the realization that you're not the guy making things happen had to hurt. ;D

The WARHAWKS and Blue Devil played a classic game.  The first half featured six ties and seven lead changes.  Stout's largest lead was ten points with just over twelve minutes remaining.  But the WARHAWKS rallied to take a one point lead with 2:25 on the clock.  However Stout responded to lead 39-36 at the half.  Stout held the lead and built it ten points during the first twelve minutes of the second half before a three point basket by Hiedi Sontag put the WARHAWKS on top by one point, 53-52.  From that point on the two teams saw the lead change five times and five ties.  WHITEWATER finally took a lead they would not surrender, 64-63, at the 3:18 mark on a pair of free throws by Rachael Woolever.  After Stout missed three shots and had a turnover Kelsey Hendrickson hit a three-pointer with :55 seconds on the clock to make it a two possession difference and a pair of free throws from Nicole Bundy provided the final six point spread 69-63.  Stout missed it's final seven shots and turned the ball over twice in the final three and half minutes.

Tiffany Morton led the WARHAWKS with 20 points, 11 rebounds and 6 blocked shots.  The double-double was Morton's ninth of the season.  Bundy and Hendrickson each added 10 points with 5 and 6 rebounds respectively.  Hendrickson added 5 assists and 3 steals.

Charlee Edwards paced Stout with 17 points.

It was a big win for the WARHAWKS in a gym which until last year has been a house of horrors.

I thought it was a house of horrors on Saturday... :'(

The Warhawks played tough the whole game, but I still thought that the Lady Blue Devils had a good shot up until that last 3 pointer by Hendrickson with less than a minute to go.

That changed the whole dynamic of the game at that point.  It was a CLUTCH shot!

Kelsey has been struggling a bit this year from beyond the arch.  Her point average is nearly identical to last year but her 3 point shooting is down.  She's still shooting a respectable .369 but last year it was .460.  She's picked up the pace these past few games and Saturday's shot was clutch so hopefully she's back on track.  Hitting the outside shots brings the defense out and gives Morton more space inside.  Obviously that is critical to our success.

Key statistic from the UWW at Stout game...

Stout does not score a field goal in the final 4:59 of the game.

Hey BW,

Just wondering if you have some free time and can crunch the eff. numbers from the key performers from the teams who went undefeated this week.

I would assume Hunter (LC), Morton (WW), Webber (SP) and Witt (EC) would be nominated from their teams for player of the week.  I wonder who would win the award just based on the eff. number.

Stoutguy -

I just said that I always thought you "carried" Jason ... but at least last week he had an "A" Day .... be assured he doesn't have that many of those...so, bottom line, he still needs you!!

Ok, it'll only take a few minutes.

Hunter: 1/14 vs Platteville....+25
            1/17 vs Oshkosh....+10
            Total.......................+35

Webber:  1/14 vs Stout........+16
                 1/17 vs Superior..+21
                Total.....................+37

Witt:  1/14 vs Oshkosh.........+22
          1/17 vs River Falls......+11
          Total...........................+33

Morton: 1/10 vs Eau Claire...+19
              1/17 vs Stout..........+28
              Total........................+47

Morton didn't play on January 14th (WHITEWATER had the bye) but for purposes of comparison I used the last two games played by each player.   Morton's one game performance on 1/17 exceeded the single game performances of each of the other three for either date.

My vote goes to Morton.  Of course I am a homer. :D

I also assume that Morton would win the award before the numbers were crunched.  I think this could be one of the hardest selections this season.  I wouldn't fuss much about any of those players winning the award this week.

my vote is for morton!

Me too.   She had plenty to do with Stout not getting a bucket the last 5 minutes.  She blocked 6 shots and really intimidated Stout's inside game.  She is a great player.

Wow. Just went to Kolf thinking the Titans could pick up a (much needed) win against Carroll College. Carroll flat outplayed them in the 2nd half. Oshkosh had a nice (not great, but nice) first half. But they came out of the break and looked lethargic and out of sync. The Hoewisch kid could not be stopped in the 2nd half and buried the Titans.

Coming into the game, I thought about mediocrity. However, this isn't mediocrity. The Titans are bad. I think that there needs to be a serious re-evaluation of the queen bee there. What a proud tradition of dominance that is being - check that - has been dismantled.

I vow to not step foot in that facility again until something (drastic) is done. I can't stand it.

Morton it is.......http://www.wiacsports.com/wbasket/athweek.htm

She joins UW-LaCrosse's Mckenzie Hunter as a two time player of the week.
