Obviously efficency isn't a criteria because if it was.....

Hunter's efficency rating for the two games was +50
Witt's efficency rating for the two games was +42

It's close though.  Interestingly both played the same opponents.

But.....Witt's best game was against WW and Hunter's against Sup.
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

I don't think it is fair to penalize Hunter because she played great against Superior and only really good against WW.  I don't believe this argument.

Hunter's best game was more efficent than Witt's (+33 vs +27) and her worst game was more efficent than Witt (+17 vs. +15).

I'm simply crunching the numbers using a formula which takes all significant aspects of a game into account.  By that method Hunter had better games.  Though my comments should not be taken to mean that I think Witt didn't deserve the honors.  I have no problem at all with her being named and her performances certainly put her in position to be named to both teams.

Besides taking into account how poorly the WARHAWKS played against both LaCrosse and Eau Claire I'm not sure how much difference it makes.

I just like discussion.  It could have went either way.  Six in one group and half dozen in the other.

On Witt, I beleive Pat Coleman from D3hoops was at the game btw UWWW and UWEC. Given the importance of the game and the incredible way Witt played, that might have been part of the equation. What the stats do not show is her totally devasting the UWWW press single handily and then passing off to others when she could have taken the shot. She was on fire and as fast as lightening. Again - appreciate that formulas are formulas.

Julia Hirssig for President. Hooray Stout - back in the high-life again! Any details on the victory? Read JH at 37.

I don't think the term "Man among boys" is a politically correct term when viewing women's basketball, but it is the only term to fit Julia Hirssig.  14-23 fgs, 9-12 free throws (last two to win the game), 12 rebounds in 33 minutes of play.  Use whatever charts, graphs, or formulas you want to determine POW choices, Julia Hirssig is by far, the best player in the WIAC conference.

The Champ

Have to give credit to Charlee Edwards performance in the last 2:28 of the game.

She sunk a 3 pointer to pull Stout within 3 points, a layup to put the deficit back to only 3 points, a layup to pull within 1 point before Hirssig was fouled for the game winning points, and then captured the defensive rebound on Bandow's missed 3 pointer before being fouled herself with 1 second to go.

And she made her two FT's for a total of 9 points in a very critical stretch!

Having said that, Hirssig's performance against one of the top teams in the country was amazing.  Some people dismissed her 37 point performance against UWO - because it was against UWO.  Well, she just backed that up with an exclamation point (no pun intended) last night against Point.

Wish I could have been there to see that performance.

Now, is it too much to hope for a repeat performance on Saturday against WW??? ;D

My 2 cents for what it's worth or not worth.

I have seen Stout play many games last year and this year and previous 4 years. They are a force to be reckoned with. Quite simply, Hrirssig is the best player in D3 Woman's. Her abilities, tenacity, determination and work ethic have been there since she was a freshman. She is also a "class act". Stout had the potential all this season.  It is now coming together. I think they will beat WW - easily. I also think they have a great chance of taking the WIAC  tourney for the NCAA berth. They have super speed, the best player in D3. They also have talent beyond JH and an ICON for a coach.   More of my 2 cents:
There is no way WW will beat Stout -  2/3 of the way through the EC game, the WW team was coming to the reality that they are just not that super. Very one dimensional - Morten. As far as the WW intense defense, it hasn't been there all year. EC cut there press and defense like butter. Per earlier posts Buechner was the leader, heart and soul that got them so far last year. They had a super easy schedule at the start of this year. When they played EC the first time, Witt spent most of the game on the bench with fouls and the refs`calls helped WW alot more than EC.  WW will probably not make the NCAA tourney. A loss to Stout on Saturday and a loss to SP will knock them out. They could also lose another game if there is a total collapse.

If EC doesn't choke to UWRF, the EC-UWSP game is a huge game. This is a pretty mature EC team that does not panic (example away games - Superior and Oshkosh) EC has a fair chance of beating SP at home (fair - SP is the real deal).

With the loss to Stout by UWSP, EC (if they beat UWRF) could be the number 1 NCAA Central Regional Rank in next weeks ranking - remember they have beaten SP. EC has had the toughest schedule. While IL Wes. has no loses, they have had a very easy schedule. I think the NCAA will not make IL Wes. the #1 seed (similiar to St Thomas being #2 in the men's ranking - though St Thomas is undefeated).

If Stout was to take the tourney, at this juncture UWSP, EC and UWW are all on bubble for NCAA tourney bids. Again the basic premise is that Stout is alive and well and takes the WIAC Tourney - which today is very possible.

Looking into the crystal ball (and for my 2 cents) Stout, UWSP and EC go to the NCAA Tourney. Stout and EC battle for the WIAC crown next year with both WW and SP in a rebuilding year. There's my two cents, should generate some kind of response from all of you. Love that WIAC.

Obviously we don't stand a snow ball's chance in hell so we might just as well give up.  Don't even bother to send your women's team down here this weekend.    >:(

My two cents that is all. Again - Stout is on a roll and coming into their groove, WW has some uphill work to do and has been on a major down hill turn.. Saturday will be a good test for just how good WW is. Remember - EC will be put to the same challenge when they play Stout at Stout to end the season. Have you seen Hirsig this year? She is focused, mature, in control and doesn't worry much. Just wants to work hard and shoot hoops (oh yeah and rebound and play great defense).

BW.  Who in your wildest dreams would be less likely than me to try to have a calming influence on the folks who imply that WW does not stand a chance.   I usually like to stir the pot.  In this case, however I beg for restraint when talking about what might happen this weekend and beyond.  I don't think there is a bigger supporter of Julia Hirssig than myself.  Having said that, I remember the first WW match up and remember thinking that WW (and Morten) were just too good to compete with this year.  Nothing has been decided by Stout's win last night except that some of the WIAC folks were a bit quick to dismiss Stout this year as one of the teams who would compete.   Mark Thomas has 384 wins under his belt.  Only Shirley is close.  My comment regarding what is going to happen Sat. and the rest of the way would be to suggest that Stout can compete and I think they will.

I regret that I will not be making the trip to WW to receive the usual great treatment from BW and his crew as I work a HS game back here, do our Sat. morning show (Your buddy, Jack Bennett will be on talking about the upcoming new paint on the SP court), and then I have to go to Florida for a week.  I love Florida but I would love to see that Hirssig/Morten battle again.  Keep me posted.

I never thought a person could get so much from one game.  I am assuming that you are predicting a complete collapse of UWSP, EC, and UWW for them not to make the tournament.  THE NATHC, CCIW, MWC, and SLIAC will most likely all only get one team in unless there is an upset in their conference tournaments.  This leaves at least one pool C bid for a deserving WIAC team one would think.

Good discussion question.
