No Doubt.  Yesterday was a conference loss and regional loss.  This was a game that doesn't do anything but build confidence, which is important.

No "Witt Zone" at UWRF is correct but a loss is a loss is a loss. EC did beat D1 South Dakota by 12. Trade it in  a minute for the win over UWRF. Anywhichwaywhatsoever - the Falcons beat EC by making their fouls and their 3 pointers. Well, can EC take SP at home? Can UWW take SP at home? Will UWRF take the WIAC Tourney? Does La Crosse go D1? Stayed tuned. Love that WIAC!

That's quite a stretch from someone who proclaimed Stout the team to beat (and their kid the National Player of the Year) to someone who suggested La Crosse might be flying under the radar a little bit cause no one is talking about them.

Anything for comedy I guess.

Good win yesterday for Eau Claire.  Should help them get some mojo back after their loss Saturday.

I am just wondering when they took their day off last week.  I thought there was a rule that said a team cannot have basketball activities seven days in a row and it has to be the same day all semester long.  Teams usually take Sunday off, but Eau Claire had a game, so I wonder when they did it.

You do need a day off in every calendar week (when school is in session), but it does NOT have to be the same day all semester long.  I'm sure EC has scheduled for it.

I think they took Saturday off.  ;)

I think EC took Saturday off too but you know what - there are going to be bad days, maybe Saturday was a bad (bad, bad, bad) day. On the other hand it was a good day UWRF. Looks like the D3 voters still have faith in EC. They are ranked number 7. UWSP is number 5 and UWW is number 12. Alot of time for lots of things to happen. (I still don't rule Stout out of winning the automatic bid - even though that would be a substantial undertaking.) LaX does have the potential to take out EC or SP or UW on the right night.  Don't think they could have back to back wins against two of these three in the WIAC tourney. Will UWW and EC win at home against UWSP?  I think the game at ZORN is once again huge. The place will be rocking with1200+ fans yelling for the blugolds. UWSP did beat EC at Zorn to win the WIAC tourney last year. That's my view of WIAC WORLD tonight. Goodnight badgerwarhawk, Goodnight buf, Goodnight Usuallywrong 24, Goodnight biilys,

What a week to be in the WIAC and central region.  First of all, Point goes on the road to play 2 of the top 12 teams in the region.

Also, the central rankings come out.  The central region has 5 of the top 13 teams in the nation based on voting.  I personally think they will be ranked in the region just like they are in the national poll.  Exciting time to be a basketball fan.

WIAC Player of the Week

QuoteAlise Holst, Freshman (Plainview, Minn./Plainview-Elgin-Millville), Forward of UW-River Falls

Holst played a key role in the team's two WIAC wins last week, including a 69-63 triumph over No. 5-ranked UW-Eau Claire.  Against the Blugolds, she scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds, dished out three assists, blocked one shot and recorded four steals.  In a road win at UW-Superior, Holst registered a game-high 18 points and career-best six steals.  She also added two blocked shots and two assists.  In the two games, she was 12-of-18 from the field, had 14 rebounds (seven offensive), 10 steals, five assists and three blocked shots.

I thought someone said earlier in the season that the POTW was an offensive award.... ;)

I would be willing to bet her 7 defensive rebounds, 10 steals and 3 blocks didnt help as much as her 2-0 record and 30 points.

The 2 - 0 helped I'm sure, and I think good defense was key in both games.

Averaging 5 steals per game is more impressive to me than scoring 15 points per game is.  And if you asked Cindy Hovet her coach, I think Cindy would say the same thing.

As far as her 2 game performance (15 ppg, 7 rpg and 5 spg) to her season averages:

Scoring - average 10.2 ppg -
Rebounds - average 7.2 rpg
Steals - average 1.62 spg

The spg average is the one that really stands out as far as the most significant % of increase (over 300%).

I think she has "stolen" the player of the week award... ;D

Holst's efficency rating scores the highest of all the nominees at +40.  Van Gomple is a close second with a +39 rating and Hurssig hangs in there at +37.  The rest, Wahl (+30), Sontag (+22), Baganz (+19) and Mesick (+17) lag behind.

Holst had great games and I think they wanted to find a way to recognize the huge upset River Falls beating Eau Claire was.

These are the things you do when you can't sleep.  :D

Isn't it almost a requirement you go undefeated over the course of the week to win the award? Not just in the WIAC, but pretty much in any league. Unless you do something so spectacular in defeat they can't help but give it to you. I would guess a 20-point game in a loss for Hirssig could have done just that. I know Hunter got it earlier in the year with a loss; to a good D-2 program. But she was also the MVP of a tournament they didn't win which is equally tough to do.

So at that point their are only 3 candidates last week; and only 2 that went 2-0.

Probably made it a pretty easy call.
