Point with a HUGE gift in the region. Wesleyan should probably be wondering why they've got EC/DePauw in the 2nd round and Point gets their 2nd round match-up. And I agree buf, WW got a gift avoiding both WIAC's and Wesleyan through 3 rounds. Obviously Wash U would be a huge hurdle but I think they'll take it.

Glad the tournament has evolved to the point where the 3 deserving WIAC schools are firmly in the tournament.

EC got a really really tough draw.  I would assume that the NCAA didn't want to send WW to IWU again like last year.  Its unfair to EC.

A lot of fans will miss out.  I think there would be quite a few EC fans make the 2.5 hour trip to ST. Bens.  Now they will have to make what I would imagine be a 6-7 hour trip.  I'm sure a lot less fans will do that.  Also, UWW is probably closer to IWU than to St Bens.  I just don't get it.

As far as the NCAA goes, there are only two travel distances: Within 500 miles and outside 500 miles.

They don't look at whether one team is 400 and another is 200.  As long as two teams are both within 500 miles they are considered the same for bracketing purposes.  So if you're trying to find an explanation for the brackets, that one isn't it.  It's got to be in the numbers somwhere.

I just do not see how EC will be behind WW.  The beat them 2 out of 3 times and played a tougher schedule.  The thing that hurt them could have been 1-3 record vs SP while WW was 1-1.  Not fair to hurt a team based on playing SP in a non-conference schedule.  Not impressed with this bracket.

EC did get a bad deal, WW was the winner this year - wonder if last years finish had anything to do with it - I know probably not. . All said, if EC wins their first two games, they may have the pleasure of playing Point one more time. I don't know if either school could get up again for that game. I need to research how the Plendil/Messick team will match up against DePauw. Go WIAC.

Might have something to do with the WW coach being the WIAC rep to the central region.  http://www.wiacsports.com/mbasket/0809Code.pdf It is about half way through and in Part VII.

Isn't that more about selection than placement?

First, whatever you think about Carollo, I highly doubt she'd use that position to try and screw over a conference rival.

Second, the Regional Advisory Committees are out of the loop once they forward their final regional ranking on to the national committee.  From that point on, the Central Region chair who serves on the National Committee represents the WIAC and all the other Central Region teams.

That person would be Tim Bernero of Carthage College.

I am not saying that she used it to screw over a conference rival, but maybe put her team in a better situation.  It makes more sense to send WW to IWU than it does EC.  It is not like she is an unbiased person in the situation.  Her opinion counts.

I am not saying that this actually did happen.  Just what ran through my mind when I saw the brackets.

Just Bill

Her opinion counts only when creating the regional rankings.  She's not on the call when they are selecting teams and creating brackets.

I've brought this up before, but back in the 2001/2002 season, Stout went 15 - 1 in the WIAC, beat Point both times during the regular season and Point didn't even make the WIAC Tournament Championship game...

Stout went on the road and Point played their first four games in the NCAA tournament at home.

Life ain't always fair.

You've brought this up before?  I haven't noticed :).  Point played their first game at home, then went to Wash U.  After that game they returned home.  I think Wash U had a 70 game home win streak, a 36 game win streak overall and were also 4 time national champions.

How often do the rankings change once it goes to the national level?  Don't they usually trust their regional reps for the most part?  I am sure Bernano can't see EC and WW play that much, if it all, so he is going to trust the WIAC conference rep.

WW was 13-4 against conference opponents during the conference season and tournament.  EC was 14-5 during the same time.  EC just beat up on WW the last two meetings. I mean these games weren't even close.  I don't need other numbers to tell me who is better, it is pretty obvious.  No need to think WW is better right now.  I, like many other people, thought WW would go to IWU like last year.

On another note, how bout IWU's pod.  That is loaded for a first weekend!

WOW!  I see that all 4 UAA teams that got in are hosting this weekend.

We can all second quess all we want. That's part of this site. Other than the early loss to WW and the "flubbed" game to RF, Three of those 5 losses were to Point. EC totally dominated WW in the last two games. Does being part of the process get you a "good" break - maybe. Curious to see the next D3Hoops rating to see how WW and EC are ranked.

I think the second to last D3Hoops poll has it pretty correct. EC is very properly placed as well as Point and WW. The NCAA criteria and seed is not based upon real rank - it's geographic equity. So if your Point or EC you don't get to play the easier teams. While the WW seed is bothersome to EC fans, SP fans should be real unhappy. I guess time will tell. EC and SP can still go deep into this thing.
