EC ends up losing 80-63.  It was about a 10 point IWU lead for the last 12min of the game until pulling away at the end.

Point wins 78-58.

UWW down 6 with 5min to go.

UWW loses to St. Bens.  I thought UWW would have a good shot at this one.  Not surprised that they lost but I thought they may be slightly favored.  Its been kind of a disappointing season for UWW (at least in my eyes).  Coming into the season I thought they would be a serious threat for the national championship.

Yes, great careers by the seniors.  Got back to the national tourney last season and repeated it this season as well.

Congrats to the WAIC women's teams on strong seasons.  Good programs all and excellent games in the national tourney.

IWU vs. SP should be a final four quality match-up.  Too bad they have to meet in the Sweet 16.  Men's "bracket of death" is the same -- too many good programs all bunched in the Midwest.

Good wishes to all the seniors finishing up their basketball careers.

Geographically, UWSP would be the favorite to host the Sectional.  All three opponents can bus to Stevens Point, while St. Ben's would have to fly to either IWU or Wash. U.

I guess they'd rather give IWU the advantage of home court and spend the money to fly St Bens.

Although I'd love to see UWSP host, I'm glad the NCAA is doing what's right competitively and favoring the higher seed.  Maybe the men's committee should take a lesson.

The UW-W - CSB battle last night was a great one to watch (naturally I'm happy being a MIAC guy).   CSB's Ariel Tauer was a HUGE reason why the Blazers were able to outlast UW-W down the stretch; she simply refused to let her team lose last night.

I was quite impressed with UW-W as they had a great season and naturally it's hard to see it all come to an end.  Good size coupled with the speed they have obviously made this a tough team to beat.  I was a little surprised at the lack of composure that was displayed by the UW-W freshman player (#43 Chantel Burg I think it was) who drew a technical after being called for fouling Tauer - and subsequently slapping both of her hands on the floor (after being warned about it previously!).  While I don't think it changed the complexion of the game that much, it certainly didn't help the Warhawks cause.

FWIW, this battle was a fun one to watch and I wish there could be more MIAC vs. WIAC clashes in the future.

Hard to call a team a dissappointment after finishing 23-5 in one of the toughest conferences in the nation.  A number #1 ranking coming into the season is more of a burden than positive as the expectations usually get too high.  WW had a very good season.  For some reason, they just couldn't find the leadership that Thill and Buechner had for them last year.  Those two just refused to let their team lose.

I am not sure what happened to Burg other than what was posted on here.  I know she had a game this year when her emotions got the better of her.  Chalk it up to a freshman mistake I guess.  What really hurt was that the "T" caused her to foul out with 10 minutes left.

Perhaps "disappointing" was the wrong term here.  I just thought UWW would do better this season than they did.

I know nothing about UWSP except that they will be the toughest opponent IWU has faced (at least since Wash U in the second game of the season - who will likely be the next opponent of the winner).  Do the Pointers go mainly by size or speed (or both :o)?  Defensive-minded or up-tempo?  Main weapons?  Thanks for any insights you could give.

Since I'm in Michigan and haven't seen the Titans this year, I can't return the favor.  But I'm sure Hoosier Titan (or someone) would be willing to swap insights.

Oh, I just gave you my best answer over on the CCIW board, but I will re-post it here too.

UWSP has a history of outstanding post players, but this team has been an exception to that tradition. They have good post players but their strength is in their guards (and their post players who step out and act like guards).  They take a lot of stuff off the dribble and are very quick.  They don't full court press per se, but they almost always pick up the point guard for the length of the floor.

Their biggest strength this year is their balance. They've had games where they score 80 points and nobody has more than 12.  They've had 8 different players lead the team in scoring at least once this year.  The kid who led them in scoring in the second round game (Flease) had never been their leading scorer all season until that game.  It's not possible to key on just 1 or 2 kids with them.

If any other WIAC fans, feel like I've missed something feel free to add or correct me.

While, as I said, I haven't seen the Titans this year, from my understanding you have just described them!  Their starting guards (Heydorn at point, Sheehan at 2) will both get at least some AA attention; their main inside force (Solari) just might make POY, but also shoots 3's.  And while I haven't counted it up, it wouldn't surprise me if 6-7 different players have been top scorer - they're very deep.

Maybe there are some significant differences I'm unaware of (not having seen either team), but it sounds like each team will be looking into a mirror when they play!  May the better team (as long as it is the Titans ;D) win.

Christina Solari has one 3-point FGA on the entire season, Chuck.
