EC loses to Augustana (D2), 87-64.  EC got down by 20 in the 1st half, but held their own after that.  They cut the deficit to 12 with 11min remaining.  EC needs to get off to better starts.  And that starts with limiting turnovers.  They are turning it over way too much in the first 10min of these games, causing them to fall behind.

On a brighter note, both Mesick and Plendl had double-doubles.

I believe EC plays Duluth next, another D2 school.

buf,

I was startled for a moment until I reread the post. :-[  Augustana (D3) is one of the weaker squads in the CCIW, and the women's CCIW overall is (alas) nowhere near the men's CCIW.

Good thing I put in that (D2).   :D

WARHAWKS fell to #13 ranked Scranton 69-61.  The WARHAWKS led early but Scranton went ahead after 5 minutes had elapsed and held the lead until a pair of free throws by Chantel Burg tied the score, 30-30, with 12 seconds remaining in the half.  The WARHAWKS led for a good portion of the second half but Scanton went ahead for good with 2 minutes remaining.

Heidi Sonntag (16), Kelsey Hendrickson (14) and Nicole Bundy (12) all scored in double figures to pace the WARHAWKS.  Hendrickson also had 5 steals.  Scanton dominated the boards outrebounding the WARHAWKS 47-30 including 24 offensive rebounds.

EC loses to UMD (d2) by about 10.  Same old story for the Golds..., they outrebound and out shoot (% wise) their opponent but lose the turnover battle big time (today -15 margin).

I just looked at their schedule and see that they fly out to the west coast and already play again in 2 days.

Stout falls to Mary Hardin Baylor 74 - 63.

Game was close in the first half... 39 - 34 for MHB, despite 16 turnovers in the half by Stout.

The first half of the second period was all MHB, as they went on a 16 - 9 run.

Stout finally shored things up in the last 10 minutes, but it was too little, too late.

50% from the FT line and 18% from 3 point land isn't good enough when you turn the ball over 29 times.

Stout will play Trinity tonight at 8 PM.

EC falls, 49-36, at #33 Puget Sound.  Again, EC outshoots and outrebounds their opponent.  A minus 16 turnover margin today.

Stout cruises past #8 Trinity TX

Falcons come from behind to beat Washington & Jefferson. The falcons are now 11-0 on the year.

QuoteStout cruises past #8 Trinity TX

It wasn't a cruise in the first half.

Trailing 35 - 31 at the break, I can only surmise that the discussion in the lockeroom was successful...

In the second half, Stout's defense held Trinity to only 7 second half FG's, while sinking 16 of 30 shots for themselves.

Megan Maslowski scored 16 of her 17 points in the second half.  Kim Stokke scored 12 of her career high 19 points in the second half.  Julia Hirssig scored 12 of her game high 22 points in the second half.

These 3 senior starters accounted for 40 of Stout's 51 second half points in a 41 minutes (combined) of playing time in the second period.

56 fouls called in the game - 30 against Stout and 26 against Trinity.  Maslowski fouled out for Stout - Marzella and Goodell fouled out for Trinity.

Stout controlled the backboard with 60 rebounds (led by Hirssig with 16) vs. 41 for Trinity.

Next up UWRF at River on January 6th!  A battle for 1st place in the WIAC!

What RF is doing for their program is great - in the last ten years, they've never finished higher than 3rd (tied with three teams in 00-01 season).  Cindy's been recruiting hard there for 10 years and deserves this success.  I just hope they don't pull something like LAX did in 05-06, going 14-0 to start the season then losing the next 8 of 12.  They seem pretty legit so far, we'll find out a lot more about them on Jan. 6th.

I always wish Cindy well - except when her team is playing Stout.

She's was one of Coach T's star's, and is in the Stout Athletic Hall of Fame (I was at her induction).

The WARHAWKS are playing like a team that hasn't played in a week and a half and trail Madison Edgewood by 8 points at the half 42-34.  Shooting 39% from the floor and turning it over a ridiculous 19 times in the half is killing us.  Emily Decorah leads Edgewood with 13 points while Nicole Bundy is pacing the WARHAWKS with 7 points.

We better play a whole lot better in the second half or this is going to be an nasty loss.

Edgewood led by as many as 10 points in the second half.  The WARHAWKS got within 2 on a couple of occassions but couldn't get over the hump until about three and half minutes remained when a pair of free throws by Heidi Sonntag tied the game at 60-60.  After each team turned the ball over Edgewood regained the lead 61-60.  The WARHAWKS took their first second half lead 62-61 on a jump shot by Melissa Olson and had a chance to add to it but turned the ball over.  Edgewood then retook the lead 64-62 on a three point basket but Sonntag answered with a three pointer for the WARHAWKS to go back up 65-64.  Edgewood missed their next shot and after being fouled Kelsey Hendrickson sank both free throws and created the final score 67-64 with 3.7 seconds to go.  Edgewood got the ball all the way down the floor and got a good look from the left wing but missed the shot.

Hendrickson had 12 points and 6 assists.  Nicole Bundy also scored 12 points.  Sonntag led the WARHAWKS with 13 points.  Cortney Kumerow led all rebounders with 11 boards as the WARHAWKS won the battle of the boards 32-24.

A nail biter but a W none the less.  We'll have to play 300% better on Saturday if we expect to be competitive with #1 ranked Illinois Wesleyan.  The WARHAWKS will be playing on their second game on the home court.

SP picks up 2 more victories winning the Land Of Magic Classic.  Both close games close however:

59-56 vs. Concordia
54-52 vs. UMW

Hopefully the streak will continue on 1-6-10 when they take on the Titans.
