EC had a horrible day at the line. Fortunatley their defense reall ystiffled the Warhawks.

Tomorrow's predictions:

EC @ UWSP
UWO@LAX
UWP @ UWW
Stout@ Superior...I'll take Stout but I think this will be a closer game than expected. Superior always seems to play Stout tough at home.

Blue Devil Backer

Blue Devil Backer

I have to cry foult on that.

In the last decade, there has only been one Stout/Superior matchup that was less than a double digit win.  That was last year, and Superior, to their credit only lost by 3 points.

But in that decade, the margin in the other 9 games was never lower than 11 and was as high as 38.

The average margin of victory in all 10 games played in Superior (including the 3 pointer last season) over the last decade is 24.9.

The matchups for Saturday:

UW-Eau Claire  @ UW-La Crosse
UW-Stevens Point  @ UW-Oshkosh Oshkosh
UW-Platteville @ UW-Superior Superior
UW-River Falls  @ UW-Stout

I'd like for all the home teams to win tomorrow, but I think people will see a little bias in my desire for that.

Stout took River to overtime in River earlier this month.  I'd like for Stout to just take care of business at home in regulation!

WHITEWATER...79
Platteville...65

The outside/inside combo of Nicole Bundy and Courtney Kumerow was too much for  Platteville to handle.  A pair of three-pointers by Bundy and a layup by Kumerow put the WARHAWKS up 8-2 in the first couple of minutes.  The lead quickly grew to double figures and reached a high of 16 points before the Pioneers made a move and cut it to seven, 39-32, at the half.  Platteville scored the first basket of the second half to pull within five but that's as close as they would get the rest of the night.  With a couple of exceptions the WARHAWK lead remained in single digits until another three-pointer from Bundy put them up 70-58 with five minutes remaining and they coasted to the final horn.

Bundy finished 5-9 from beyond the arch, 11-18 from the floor and with 29 points and 5 rebounds.  The WARHAWKS finished 8 of 16 from beyond the arch which stretched the Pioneer defense preventing them from collapsing on Komerow who had a career high 25 points on 12-20 shooting and 5 rebounds.  Platteville just didn't have the size to match up with her individually and without help from the outside defenders they had a lot of problems.  Kelsey Hendrickson had a nice stat line with 11 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals.  Heidi Sonntag had 7 assists to lead the WARHAWKS who had 21 assists on 32 made shots.

UWL has won 7 of their last 8 games after their rough 0-3 start to the conference season.  Granted there are only a few quality wins in that stretch you still have to beat the teams that you are supposed to.

That leaves UWL at 4-4 in the conference heading into this weekend.  I expect this team to make some noise the rest of the year.  This team does not get too down when they lose a game because they feel they can play with anyone.  That attitude should lead to more Ws.  (See blowout win at RF)

Whoever claimed that the conference winner could have 4 losses this year, your prediction looks pretty good at this point.

We do frequently beat ourselves up... ;)

Playing in a tough conference makes us better teams, but it sure hurts the national rankings.... :(

Couldn't agree more. What a great conference to be a part of. Nothing on the East or West coasts even comes close to the level of quality of D3 basketball in the midwest! The number of quality teams every year is really something.

I would definitely challenge the midwest part including MIAC.  I saw a lot of MIAC teams play the last 2 years and after seeing a few WIAC games this year... It is a whole different ball game.

Took in the SP and EC game. For the first 12 minutes it looked like EC were the champions of the world great defense and the underneath game was the best I have seen at this level. Luckily, for SP the 3 points fell like stars over Alabama. Then the EC gaurd got into foul trouble and down they came. Time for EC to put posters up on campus. They need another guard. How bad - could lose any game where Olson has to sit out, Feel bad for the forwards were have to bring the ball up. They can get it up court but get stuck once over the center line.
Once the trouble started SP devoured EC. SP has killer instict! I love Egner. She is a grand coach. Knew to go with the three pt shots and knew she could back door the EC defense. Smart lady she is. Also think Englund has done a great job but it will be for naught without another guard. Get those posters up.

Saturday's picks:

UW-Eau Claire  @ UW-La Crosse EC, if Olson their only guard doesn't have to sit.
UW-Stevens Point  @ UW-Oshkosh - Point
UW-Platteville @ UW-Superior - Platville
UW-River Falls  @ UW-Stout - Stout, they are due to win.

MIAC is an above average league. How about the CCIW and IIAC conferences or the Ohio Athletic conference and the league in Indiana? Those are all very solid conferences. Not to mentions schools like WashU and Hope that are also in the midwest. It's no contest between the midwest d3 schools and the East and West coast schools.

I'll bet Howard Payne and George Fox (last year's champ) would disagree, as well as some of the NESCAC schools (3 teams in top 25).  The midwest may have numbers, but don't discount the coasts for great basketball and come NCAA time.
