Appreciate the comments and analogy. I guess I could have said, my gut feeling is either EC or Stout will beat SP so they will end up with another loss.

This should get a couple people fired up.  Should the league POY come from a team with a record around .500?  It is like the A-Rod MVPs in TX where he was clearly the best player in the league, but some thought he didn't deserve it because his team is worst than others.  I would still most likely vote for Hirssig because she is so dominant, but if they finish at 7-9 or 8-8 it might be tough to justify it.

The thing for me is does that MVP make the team competitive.  So this is a different conversation than if Stout was to finish 3-13 in the conference.  8-8 is a good record in this tough conference.

When I pick my MVP favorites for anything, my view is what was this team's record with said player and what would have been the team's record without that player.

Take the best player away from Point and WW and they are still probably the top 2 teams in the conference.

Take the best player away from EC and Stout and they would be in the same situation as Platteville, Superior, and Oshkosh.

Hirssig has my vote, if I had one that is, regardless of how Stout finishes.  She is simply the best player in the league.

Bears rule

Dani Thompson has been taken away from WW. So you are right.
Take Peterson away from SP? Not sure they are top two.

JMM

Hirsig. The MVP should be Hirsig. My two cents.

Not saying it can't happen, but here's the balance of the schedule, with the current record of 6 - 5:

Wed, Feb. 3  UW-Stevens Point  Stevens Point, WI 7 p.m.
Sat, Feb. 6  UW-Oshkosh (Alumni Day)  Menomonie, WI 5 p.m.
Wed, Feb. 10  UW-Superior  Menomonie, WI 7 p.m.
Sat, Feb. 13  UW-Platteville  Platteville, WI 4 p.m.
Sat, Feb. 20  UW-Eau Claire - Senior Nite  Menomonie, WI 3 p.m.

3 of the 5 are at home.  2 of the 5 should be very difficult games.  Stout also has their bye in this period.

Stout lost to Platteville and UWO already, so it could happen again.  I just don't think they are swept by either team.

I just don't see a 7 - 9 record, and hopefully an 8 - 8 is exceeded also.

But that's why they play the games... ;D

Mr. Ypsi

The back and forth posts on Hirsig/Hirssig have been driving me nuts!  According to the Stout website roster, there are two s's in Hirssig! ;)

(And now I'll discover that the website person is a moron! ;D)

Pretty sure Stout beat Platteville at Johnson this year.

JMM

 Hirssig! Thanks.

You're right, I'm wrong... :-[

We won by two - it was much closer than it should have been.  Maybe that's why I was thinking of it as a loss.

Layne Pitt is not a moron... ;D

And I've noticed the mispelling by others many times, but figured I'd just keep my mouth shut... ;)

Thanks for defending Layne, Champ.  He is one of the best SID's in the conference.  Keep up the battle with these other guys regarding Hirssig.  I don't even want to get in the conversation because for my money, the argument is without merit.  Julia is the best in the conference.

This is just for Champ.  You other guys just don't read this because you will get all wild about how T coaches and this and that and the other thing, but how special would it be if T got his 400th today against Shirley.  Those two coaches have been at each other for the past 20 years.  T is 399-210 and Shirley is 375-171 as of today.  T was 16-4 against Shirley early but lately Shirley is 8-4 against Stout.  I just think it would be classic for T to get 400 against Shirley.  I think that would be special for both of them.

I know I wasn't suppose to read that last paragraph stoutguy but I did anyway.  haha   Actually I don't have any problem with the his style at all.

No offense intended but the truth of the matter is that I don't really care who he gets #400 against though I see the merit of your point.  Personally I'm just grateful that he didn't get it against us.  ;)

The best time to get your 400th win would be the next game you play....

I don't think it matters one bit to T.  And I'm sure that Shirley would take no joy in the fact that it came against her.

JMHO...

As to keeping up the battle for Julia.  I'll let her do that herself on the floor.  She's more than capable...

It's only been a very small minority that have tried to promote anyone else.

Hirrsig is without a doubt the MVP of the WIAC. You will see the real evidence of this next year when Stout will be fighting to stay out of the cellar w/o her. I don't think enough people realize that outside of their senior group, Stout is VERY limited. That freshman class this year, although big in numbers isn't very good. That being said, I hope Coach Thomas gets #400 against SP as well. He's a great coach and that is quite an accomplishment!

As for other players that could be considered for POY...

Hendrickson is such a good PG for the D3 level that if you take her away from WW they would still be good but she is pretty special so it will definitely show when they lose her.

Britta Petersen is a VERY good player on a VERY good team.

Tiffany Gregorich could be thrown in this mix as well. If you took her off the RF team they would be hurting in a lot of ways. She is a complete player and brings a lot of toughness to that team.

And then the other obvious player on the ballot would be Mesick.

Also, another note on recruiting. SP has 2 commitments at this point from 2 girls that were d2/d3 tweener types that are both pretty solid players. Jenna Pitt of Amherst and Christie Struck of Weyauwega-Fremont. Pitt tore her ACL and that is a likely reason why she ended up picking SP over going D2.
