Hendrickson's 20 points Saturday afternoon gave her a career total of 1007 points making her the ninth player in program history to score 1000 or more points.  Also her 3 steals gave her a total of 91 on the season establishing a new program record for steals in a season.  Trisha Thrill had the old record at 90.

Had to come out of retirement to comment on the EC comments. Several high schools programs in MN are not fond of EC becasue their kids are built up to come to EC and don't get much attention as freshman when they arrive. This is from a MN girls high school varsitry coach who is well known in the twin cities.

Good call, Bears rule.  I was also guilty a few pages back of questioning Osh. program when I have very limited knowledge  of what Schumacher is trying to do.  My point is this: These coaches are all good-most likely better than some of us who have coached  and certainly better than those who haven't coached at all or THEY would be on here spouting off like we do and WE would be coaching in the best d3 conference in the country.  Too bad there isn't a message board for coaches to evaluate our posts, or better yet, to evaluate how we perform our jobs.  (I must admit that Eddie and Mark do sometimes evaluate me but they have the courage to do it to my face).  I realize that this is a message board and it is about having an opinion, but it just seems to me that some of us are taking ourselves a bit too seriously.  And, yes, I have told Mark on occasion that I wished he would give Julia Hirssig more minutes. (I said he talks to me, I didn't say he listens.) :(

That sounds like a good Coach. Every Coach can talk, just please do not listen to us fans.

Don't sell yourself short Stoutguy.

Since we discussed Hirssig's playing time back in January it's increased by almost five minutes a game.  Champ posted she was averaging 24.8 minutes a game up to January 26th.  I commented that she played 32 minutes against us on January 30th.  In the five games Stout has played since our discussion Hirssig has averaged 29.6 minutes per game.

He has to be listening to you, Stoutguy.  What other possible explanation could there be?  :D

By golly, I think we are on to something. :P

I've been glancing over the posts and haven't been reading them in detail, but some thoughts on what I've read:

-You don't know what happens in a team and why kids are/aren't playing and if they are living up to their potential.  If you do, you wouldn't/shouldn't be on here, you'd be spending your time working with your team.

-No one on the outside knows what goes on in a team, it's just not possible.  They do what they do for a reason.  As close as you are to the team, you still are not part of the team unless you're a coach/player.

-I'd say UWL has played very well this year (you all had them near the bottom before the season if I recall correctly) and is poised to make a run in the playoffs.  I don't take that as a symbol of a mediocre program.  No matter what they do in the playoffs they'll return nearly everyone next year, this time with a chance for the team to actually play together during the offseason.  I think they're doing very well this year for having no seniors and are looking at a positive turn into next year.

Its gut-check time for the Falcons...

They must win at La Crosse tonight or they can kiss the NCAA tournament good-bye.

I talked to Jenna Hanson, it sounds like she WILL play. She said she was extremely frustrated with having to watch the SP game from the sideline. I expect a big night from her, if the foot holds up.

And we need to see more out of Tiffany Gregorich, after 30 against Eau Claire she has put up just four points in the last two. (4 vs. WW; 0 vs. SP) Although against SP she was under the weather with strep throat.

I havent heard anything of the severity of Tess Lardie's injury, but she was on crutches during the mens game at SP.

UWL rolls tonight over the falcons.  They led by as much as 18 and it never got closer than 9 in the 2nd half.

Lax has now won 5 of their last 6 since the double OT win vs. Stout setting up a good matchup vs. Stevens Point Saturday.

Superior takes a beating from Eau Claire, but I'm surprisingly optimistic. EC was all over us in height, and even with that, I saw some spunk, some talent, some ability. I have great hope for the Superior women. If we had the good fortune to bring in someone in the 6'2" range, we could compete against an Amazon team like Eau Claire. Either that or we have to get everyone to handle the ball well and get really speedy. And sneaky.

I have a granddaughter who's big for her age. Too bad she's not quite two yet.

So, you've got several months to coach her up.... ;D

C'mon, Grandma, get on it.... ;)

The Champ

With one game to play, the standings of the playoff teams in the WIAC:

Tied for 1st (listed alpabetically)
Stevens Point 11-4
Whitewater 11-4

Tied for 3rd (alphabetically)
La Crosse 9-6
River Falls 9-6
Stout 9-6

6th place
Eau Claire 8-7

So, Saturday, final seedings for the WIAC tournament will be resolved.  Here are the matchups:

The first place teams:

UW-Stevens Point  @ UW-La Crosse  - The Pointers, on the road, have a tough matchup in a game they most likely need to maintain the first place tie with UWW.  The Eagles have the toughest matchup of the current 3rd place teams to maintain the tie for 3rd or win the #3 seed outright.

UW-Superior @ UW-Whitewater - The Warhawks at home have, what on paper is the easiest matchup of the weekend for them to either win the WIAC title outright or at least earn a tie.

UW-River Falls  @ UW-Platteville Platteville - The Falcons have, on paper, the easiest matchup to earn the number 3 seed outright, or at least maintain the tie.

UW-Eau Claire  @ UW-Stout Menomonie - Like the Pointer/Eagle matchup, this game decides seeding for both teams.

With a win, the Blue Devils guarantee at least a tie for the #3 seed or possibly the #3 seed outright.

With a win, the Blue Golds create a tie for:

1. The #3 seed (4 way tie)
2. The # 4 seed (3 way tie)
5. The #5 seed (2 way tie)

I can't remember (and I did no research of this history) a WIAC final weekend where every single seed was up for grabs and had the potential for tiebreakers being needed to determine every single seed position.

Every team needs to win their game, and needs help from another WIAC team to get their best possible seeding!

Oshkosh scored first.  The WARHAWKS tied the game on a inside jumper by Cortney Kumerow and went ahead on a three-point basket by Nicole Bundy, a lead they would never surrender.  The lead reached a high of fifteen points after Kelsey Hendrickson sank a three-pointer as the first half ended 40-25.  The WARHAWKS maintained a double digit lead between ten and seventeen points for the first six and half minutes of the second half when the Titans were able to cut it seven and the lead remained in single digits reaching a low of five points for the next four to five minutes.  A jumper by Bundy put the WARHAWK lead back into double figures with eight minutes to play and it grew to as many as sixteen points twice before the game ended with a thirteen point spread 75-62.

Bundy led WARHAWK scorers with 23 points and rebounders with 9.  She also had 3 assists.   Hendrickson had 18 points, 3 assists and 3 steals bringing her season total to 94 tying her for sixth place all-time WIAC single season.    Kumerow also finished in double figures with 12 points before fouling out.

Oshkosh was led by Katie Kitzke's 11 points.  A significant Titan advantage from the free throw line 20-25 vs. 9-14 kept the game closer than it was being played.
