Congrats to the Pointers on a well played game.

Andrea Flease was outstanding (wish she would have been out standing in some farmers field... ;)) - scoring 28 points to lead Point to the win.

Hirssig led Stout with 32 points, but I'm sure she'd have gladly had 0 points and the win.

Great career at Stout for Hirssig, Maslowski, Stokke, DeWitt and Bush - the 5 Seniors.

I'll be cheering for UWW on Saturday - Coach Keri's a former Stout assistant and Assistant Coach Amy Z is a former star player for Stout... 8-)

One of Shirley Egner's strengths is getting her teams to rebound strongly after bad losses.  After laying an egg at La Crosse, something told me that she'd have the Pointers ready for this one.  (I would have said so, but I didn't want to disrupt the Mensa discussion going on.)  Congrats to the Pointers, and congrats to Hirssig and the other Stout seniors.

Plenty to look forward to next year EC. Let's leave those turnovers behind in this year. Otherwise we will need alot of velcro.

Some observations:

1. Kelsey Hendrickson is playing as well as anyone in the league has all year right now.  She's put the WARHAWKS on her back.  She was the offense in the first half scoring 20 of the team's 37 points and finishes the night with 30 points, 3 assists, 2 blocks and 4 steals.

2. Sarah Moran played her heart out.  The senior reserve really stepped up finishing with a career high (I think) 14 points, 2 assists and 4 steals.

3. Chantel Burg didn't shoot well but had 5 rebounds and 6 steals.  Several of which came when the BluGolds were attempting to feed Mesick in the post.

4.  Turnovers absolutely killed the BluGolds.  28 turnovers on the game, 18 of which were steals by WARHAWK defenders.

5.  Mesick had a nice first half (10 points, 6 defensive rebounds) but wasn't that much of a factor in the second one (5 points, 4 defensive rebounds).  She didn't have an offensive rebound all night and turned the ball over a team high 5 times.

6.  Eau Claire was outrebounded offensively 11-8 but dominated the defensive boards 34-13 in large part because WHITEWATER had 64 shot attempts to 40 for the BluGolds.  The BluGolds also shot a better percentage 55% to just 34.4% giving the WARHAWK rebounders fewer opportunities.

7.  Sarah Bingea has played pretty well the two times I've seen her.  She led Eau Claire with 20 points and had 8 rebounds.

I'm routing for WW. Love their seniors. They have had a great four years - Pesky defenders they are.

You can rout for Whitewater all you want, but I'm going to root for UWSP in a rout.  ;)

(Disclaimer: Just a play on words, folks. Not expecting a rout either way.)

Big Showdown Today In WW - the WIAC doesn't get much better than this! The feeling of March Madness starts NOW!

Point wins over UWW, 68-64.  UWW was leading at the half, 39-26.

Tough kids ... tough coach ... tough program.

I would argue Whitewater is definitely more talented; but I do believe Point's kids are tougher and you might see Keri admit in the post game.

And here I was told they couldn't beat La Crosse if they played again.

Congrats to the Pointers.

Great WIAC tournament.  Only one real blowout in the five games.  The other four were really competitive.  Couple things I have noticed.

How different is Stout and WW going to be without their seniors next year?  These teams could really struggle next year.

It isn't a stretch that Superior could possibly make a push to get into the top 6 next year.

I think Hirssig is a slam dunk for player of the year.  I thought Hendrickson had a chance if WW was able to get both conference and conference tourny titles.

Also be interesting where SP will go.  I expect their men to host, so maybe St. Norberts or Carthage.  Going to be a tough out for any team.  Also, I believe WW is on that bubble.  They really got lucky Elmhurst didn't beat IWU yesterday, but also saw at least one team win the AQ in St. Thomas that was most likely not getting in.  They are going to be lucky to get in and could end up at IWU.

Stout's game will look more like it did about a decade ago.  They will have to use more speed because they are losing a lot of height.  They could struggle, but then they could surprise also.  Have to see what recruits and possible transfers end up at Stout.

When I made a comment about Superior getting to .500 in the not too distant future a little over a year ago, many here laughed at me.

Not that I mind being laughed at.... ;D

I hope your right.  Being named the ESPN Academic All American for the whole country is kind of hard to ignore and is a great addition to her WIAC resume.  I realize that academics don't come in to play for POTY, but....

They have UWW in, but they are the 19th of 21 Pool C's to get in.  That's not a very comfortable position.

Why even bother with the regular conference season?
