Point wins, 77-76 over IWU

Congratulations to Stevens Point--very well played game.  I thought this team was scary back in November and they've gotten better!  Good luck down the stretch.

Point was down as many as 11 in the second half. Petersen fouled out with 4 minutes to go. Had a 9-0 run to go ahead by 5 at 69-64, but IWU answered with a 6-0 run and the team's traded buckets the rest of the way.  IWU had bonus throws leading 76-75 with 16 seconds to go but missed the front end.  Point drew up a play for Flease. She took a free throw line jumper with about 5 seconds left. It hit back iron and Averkamp fought off IWU's Solari for the board. She put it back in off the glass with 2.6 seconds to go for a 77-76 lead.  IWU could only get a halfcourt shot which wasn't close. Averkamp finishes with 20 points, Bandow 18, Flease 17, Petersen 14.

Hope will need to play a much better game than they did tonight if they plan on winning tomorrow.

IWU-UWSP was a really good game. Two strong teams.
Tribes of primitve hunters, with rhinestone codpieces rampant, should build pyramids of Chevy engines covered in butterscotch syrup to exalt the diastolic, ineffable, scintillated and cacophonous salamander of truth which slimes and distracts from each and every orifice of your holy refrigerator.

I demand soccer rules!  IWU won the two-game series this year, 160-157 - shouldn't we be facing Hope tomorrow?! :D

Congratulations to UWSP.

Here's hoping our men can at least earn a split on the tourney games - getting knocked out of both tourneys by the same school would really suck! :o

Soccer rules would be home and away.  Point played away and away!  Point wins!  ::) ;D

Way to go, Shirley.  Hope you didn't have to leave the gym late during all that excitement to find your rulebook :)  (inside joke)  Go Pointers.

Congratulations to UW-SP! You beat a superb team.

Hope defeats Point, 71-65.  Good season and tournament run for Point.  They should be pretty good next year as well.

Well now that the season is officially over the WIAC WBB teams, how do people think it is going to shake out next year? Here are my predictions.

1. SP
2. LC
3. RF
4. EC
5. Stout
6.WW
7. Oshkosh
8. Superior
9. Platteville

I feel pretty good on my top three based on this years results, but after that it could really go anywhere.  EC, Stout, and WW should all be battling for 4-6 based on talent alone, but Oshkosh and maybe even an improved Superior could be in there.  I don't see much hope for Platteville.  This was their year to crack the conference tournament, and couldn't deliver.

Assuming Dana Thompson comes back on a medical redshirt, there's no way WW slips five spots.  Even without her I wouldn't put them that far down.

I can't pick LC as high as #2 until they actually prove they can get that high on the court.

I guess it's not fair to offer opinions on someone else's picks without sticking out my own neck, so I'll go:

1. SP
2. EC
3. WW
4. Stout
5. RF
6. LC
7. OSH
8. SUP
9. PLT

2, 3, 4 is a coin flip. So is 5 and 6.

I can't see LC dropping 3 spots with no seniors on their roster this year.  Assuming they work hard this summer, they are going to contend with SP for the league title.  They were the hottest team coming into the league tournament until they ran into their worst match-up.

I just see WW dropping because their top four guards are all going to be gone.  That is a lot of production missing. They are going to have solid posts in Kumarow and Burg, and Thompson if she comes back, but who's going to get them the ball.  We saw Stout struggle at times this year with great posts and questionable guard play, and lets be honest, those three combined are not as talented as Hirrsig.  I just see a down year for WW.
