Michigan Tech's head coach John Barnes has resigned to become Lisa Stone's assistant at Wisconsin.  I mention it because MTU and Barnes have pulled in a good number of Wisconsin recruits over the years.  I'm wondering if some of those MTU kids might be looking at transferring to WIAC and Wisconsin schools.

The one that stands out to me is Katie Glodowski from Amherst. She redshirted at MTU and UWSP already has Clare Glodowski (I think they are cousins, not sisters) on their roster.

The coaching move was just announced today so it's too early for any action, but it wouldn't suprise if there was some later.

Wasn't sure where else to post this but I'll try here.

Is anyone aware of the type of scholarship money a program like Cardinal Stritch has? I see they put together a nice class again this year and have some nice success at their level. Just curious if any of you with daughters who played (or just insights in general) would have any idea. It looks like about 28-30 grand a year to go there.

It looks like they have a really good incoming freshman academic scholarship set-up. Just wondering how private schools are surviving (and thriving) in this economy. Not to mention the fact they have an awful facility to play in.

CS throws quite a bit of money at traditional students.  Since the university makes a fortune off of night and weekend classes (non-traditional students), they try to get as many traditional full-time students as possible by handing out competitive financial awards.

What makes the womens basketball program so great is that Coach Panella recruits the same kid every year - the one that is scared to go far from home and doesn't want to be on a large campus.   His players like to go home on the weekends, get dinner with mom and dad on weeknights, and live a relatively quiet existence on campus.  He gets that same kid every single year - the guy's a pro recruiter.

Thank goodness Barnes is finally at a Wisconsin college... he's been taking players out of the state for years!  Now we can keep them!

He's had a hard time getting the good kids since Parkside has gotten good and Winona has started coming in Wisconsin. Aside from Sam Hoyt he hasn't got a really good D2 Wisconsin kid in awhile. They had 5 seniors doing their legwork last year and were going to struggle next year. Not saying that has anything to do with why he left but I'm sure it made the timing much easier.

As far as Glodowski goes she'd be a lot better fit for the WIAC. But Michigan Tech is pretty well funded so she may be getting a good size scholarship.

Coach Barnes did an outstanding job in his time at Tech and Sam Hoyt was a steal of a recruit for them. In his 2010 recruiting class he also signed 6'4 Emily Harrison. Harrison flew under the recruiting radar all along and has the ability to play at the major D1 level. Wisconsin and several other division 1 schools tried to sign her at the last minute but were unable to do so because Tech has the exact major she was looking for. She will probably be an all-american there in the future. Getting a player of her caliber/ability level was a MAJOR steal for a d2 school. I think people will see that Emily will be one of Barnes' best recruits yet. UW is getting a solid coach in Barnes and it'll be interesting to see if the new head coach can continue the winning ways up there in the U.P.

If I were a betting man I might call that Harrison for All-American proclamation.

Anyway, noise from Stout

Interesting; seems like it's taken a major transfer to win this league the past few years. I'm not sure if any of these are good enough to put Stout on top. That said, Point will have a major impact transfer to keep that streak alive!

Always curious when you pick up a senior transfer to play a single year.  Could her previous school be so bad that she could put up with three seasons, but not four?

Judging by Layman's stats ... it was that bad. 6 GP for 30 min total. Not sure if it was all DNP-CD's or if she was injured but I know after winning the national title that program has begun to regress a tad. My guess is she wanted more than 30 minutes as a senior!

The Point mention was just a confirmation of Sam Barber transferring as previously mentioned on her awhile back. She is fits Point perfectly and will make a major impact and hoopsjunkie said.

Still haven't heard much from the other schools. Whitewater has been very quiet of late.

badgerwarhawk

WHITEWATER typically doesn't talk about recruits until they are actually enrolled and attending classes at the university.  However perhaps the biggest addition to the lady WARHAWKS will be the return of Dana Thompson.  Granted a medical redshirt last year she'll be back for one more go round.

It's a scholarship program, so yes, I could see that being possible.

Stevens Point looks tough with that class and transfers added to last years team.

Just hand them the trophy....... wait lets see what EC and WW have in store for this year. I bet both brought in some transfers and plenty of recruits.

LX has almost everyone back to. A stud transfer for them will make them tough to.

Well here we go again, I think is will be a 5-6 team race as every year is.

Care to elaborate?

Maybe I'm reading that wrong but it comes off as a pretty rash, sweeping generalization.

I think Pat was simply pointing out that a student might put up with an 'intolerable' situation quite a while if their tuition is free.  But might finally go for ONE good year, whatever the cost.

Simply a guess - I know NOTHING about this particular situation.
