Could her previous school be so bad that she could put up with three seasons, but not four?

Share the Point news when you can! I love recruiting buzz.

It's a scholarship program, so yes, I could see that being possible.
???
Care to elaborate?

Maybe I'm reading that wrong but it comes off as a pretty rash, sweeping generalization.

I think Pat was simply pointing out that a student might put up with an 'intolerable' situation quite a while if their tuition is free.  But might finally go for ONE good year, whatever the cost.

Simply a guess - I know NOTHING about this particular situation.
I gotcha ... Thanks, I hadn't seen that perspective. I thought it was a shot at scholarship programs as in they treat kids poorly and create bad situations. That makes sense.

Seems like a good choice.  Time will tell.  They had 4 very good final candidates for the position as they were running capsules of each in the local paper over the last few weeks.

Any athletic department hiring is a plus these days.  I saw St. Cloud State was considering cutting it's football program.

billys

Great hire for La Crosse. They are extremely excited about who they got but aren't expecting to have him for a long time. At 32 the guy has already built a heck of a resume.

Heard news about a big transfer that will make an impact in the league. There's your teaser ... stay tuned.

billys

The buzz is that River Falls is going to be getting an impact post player from Division 1. Not sure if it's all done yet but it's going to happen. When I hear for sure that it's done I'll post again.

roaringtwenties

Depending on the player, that should probably put River Falls into the mix as well.

First time poster here.  What does everyone think of the off season?  Anyone here of WW's new additions?  Looks like a lot of impact transfers.

Based on what I know, and its very little, here is what I think the predicted order will be.

Stevens Point
La Crosse
River Falls
Eau Claire
Stout
Oshkosh
WW
Platteville
Superior

Any thoughts?

I think you have WW all wrong, they will be in the top half, you can move Stout down a few too.

WW will have inpact recruits, Dani Thompson is back and transfers will help

SP is the favorite, lost one senior playing 15 minutes per game, a great recruiting class and  high level transfer.
LX may be right in their shorts, LX has a great transfer I hear and did not lose much.
EC was great to end the year, young kids getting older. Again great transfer I hear.
Stout lost a lot.
RF lost two impact seniors last year who started 3-4 years.
Sup will be tougher
Osh and Plat I just don't know

He/she has Stout in 5th place.  You expect Stout to finish 7th or worse?

Stout lost a lot.

Have to agree with you that Stout lost some very good players.  But that's something that most good teams do after most seasons.

But what did they add?

from the UW Stout WBB website:

Brittany Scharmer G 5-8 Fr Winona, MN/Winona

Transfers joining the Stout program include Gretta Layman (Sr, Chippewa Falls), a center who played three seasons at NCAA Division II Minnesota State, Mankato; Heather Byl (So, Amery), a guard who played at Hamline University; Whitney Rawdon (So, Eau Claire/North), a forward who played at Division II Northwest Missouri State; and Brittni Hover (So, Dallas/Clayton) who played at UW-Eau Claire and was at St. Mary's University.

Layman, at 6-foot, 2-inches, will bring a strong presence in the paint. Layman helped lead Chippewa Falls High School to their first state appearance during her junior year.

As a freshman at Northwest Missouri, Rawdon saw action in 16 games. During her high school career, her Eau Claire North teams won two conference titles and two regional championships. An all-around athlete, Rawdon was a state qualifier in track and golf.

Byl was a four-time all-conference guard at Amery High School, breaking 1000 points during her career. Byl also advanced to the state track tournament three years. Hover was the Clayton High School team MVP for four years, the same four years the Bears won the conference title. Hover was a two-time Division 4 all-state player who broke 1000 points for her career.

Among the freshmen, Thomas lists eight guards and two forwards.

The guards include: Sami Schoeder (Durand); Rachel Hanley (Minong/Northwoods); Dani Reindahl (Clayton); Alexa Herasimchuk (Whitefish Bay); Brittany Scharmer (Winona, Minn); Holly Hofland (Circle Pines, Minn/Centennial); Aspen Marleau (Deer River, Minn); and Keyana Mirbaghri (Champlin, Minn/Totino-Grace). Hanley and Marlau are listed as point guards.

The forwards include: Megan Hayman (Forest Lake, Minn) and Rachel Berkeris (West Allis/Hale).

Schoeder is a four-time all-conference selection and was a first team all-state selection by two different selection groups. She was the Middle Border conference player of the year, as well as the All-Northwest player of the year, as selected by the Leader-Telegram in Eau Claire. Schoeder averaged 18.7 points per game during her senior year and broke the 1000 point mark.

Hanley and Reindahl were very familiar with each other. Hanley and Reindahl met each other at least twice during the regular season, with Northwoods and Clayton both playing in the Central Lakeland Conference.

Hanley averaged 12.5 points per game and helped her team advance to the Wisconsin state basketball tournament for the first time school history.

During Reindahl's four years, Clayton High School never lost more than four games in a single season.

Things might not be as grim for Stout as you think....

PRF2009A

Since Champ is getting defensive already and it's barely even September.... I might as well make my pre-preseason predictions

1. Point
2. Lax
3,4,5,6,7,8
9. Stout

These are subject to change.

billys

Everyone's incoming class sounds good in the press release. I've had a lot of people in the league tell me they're anticipating a step down for Stout.

Anyway- Who are these transfers for UWL and UWEC? Inquiring minds want to know!

roaringtwenties

Sounds like a lot of changes/additions to most of the teams in the league.  With all of the new players, it will truly be very difficult to make predictions about the order of finish.  Sometimes players don't live up to the hype, and sometimes players not thought about, bring things to the table that are unexpected.

Defensive???

I questioned Bears rule projecting Stout to finish a couple places lower than Out_Of_My_Kitchen posted.

I agreed with that Stout has lost a lot.

I listed some additions that Bears rule might not have been aware of.

A model of being defensive is you after posting: " Can't figure out why Mesick is playing D3 basketball.  She would be a welcome addition to a ton of D2 teams.  Wouldn't be a stretch to say she is the best D3 player I have ever seen play over the last 4 years."

Now that was defensive....  ;D
