EC vs SP.
You-turna-the-balla-over 21 times. You-a-lose.

Not necessarily - how about if you create a similar number for the opposition?

Point leads the WIAC in Turnover Margin - they average taking the ball away from the opponent 20.5 times per game in WIAC play.

Point averages 13.1 TO's per game, but only had 9 last night.

UWEC owned the boards 46 - 38.  UWEC had a better shooting percentage from the floor 40.4 - 38.5, from 3 point range 38.5 - 37.5 and from the freethrow line 66.7 - 53.5.

Point took 8 more shots from the floor (9 of them 3 pointers) - that and the fact that Point turned the ball 4 times less than their WIAC average are equally important factors in their win.

Meanwhile - from the NW tip of Wisconsin...

Stout backs up their Saturday win with a 78 - 66 victory over Superior.

A very balanced scoring attack by the Blue Devil starters - 16 for Rawdon, 15 for Keehr, 15 for Windt, 13 for Van Vreede and 7 for Shoeder.

Stout only hit 1 three pointer all night long (1 for 13), but still managed to shoot nearly 51% for the game from the field.  They controlled the boards 44 - 37 and only had 12 fouls for the game.  Superior shot under 34% and committed 26 fouls.  The margin of victory was at the FT line - 23 for Stout and only 11 for Superior.

After traveling all the way to the NW tip of Wisconsin on Wednesday, theStout Runnin' Lady Blue Devils reversed direction and traveled to the SW tip of Wisconsin on Saturday.

And brought home a win from both!!!

A 3 game winning streak - more importantly - a 3 game WIAC winning streak!!!

The game didn't start well for the Blue Devils.  Down 4 - 0 with just over a minute of play - Coach T pulled all the starters and put in the 2nd line.  4 minutes later, with the score 7 - 0, T put the starters back in.  Now some here might say he was "playing mind games" with his players.  All I know is that Stout scored the next 6 points - and went on a 37 - 15 run in the last 15 minutes of the first half.

I think his starters (and the rest of the team) got the message... ;) ;D :o

Trisha VanVrede led all scorers with 22 points.  Kayla Windt and Sami Shoeder each contributed 13 points.  Leading rebounder for the Blue Devils was "TEAM" with 10.... ???  Whitney Rawdon was 2nd with 7.

The Blue Devils have a bye on Wednesday and then close out the season on Saturday night at Johnson Fieldhouse against the EC.

Eau Claire led 10-6 in the first four minutes of the game.  Behind a pair of three point baskets from Kaitlyn Thill and Emily Bestor the WARHAWKS made an 8-0 run to take the lead they would never surrender and finished the half ahead 42-38.  Jamie Swanson paced the WARHAWKS in the half making all four of her shot attempts including three three pointers.  Mesick was 8-11 from the floor and had 20 of Eau Claire's 38 points.  The WARHAWKS started the second half with a 15-5 run in the first four minutes and led by fifteen 59-44.  Eau Claire got the lead down to seven points with nine and half minutes to play but that was as close as they would get.  The final was 85-75.

The difference in the game was three pointers WW: 9-17  EC: 6-13 and free throws WW: 20-26  EC: 17-22.   Swanson led the WARHAWKS with 15 points and had a game high 4 assists.  Mary Merg added 14, Dana Thompson 13 and Chantel Burg 10.  All ten WARHAWKS seeing floor time scored points with the bench outscoring Eau Claire's 40-10.  WHITEWATER won the battle of the boards against the taller BluGolds 36-28 with Thompson pulling down a team high 8.

Mesick finished with 31 points.  Sarah Bingea added 17 as well as a game high 9 boards and Laura Olson had 10 points for the BluGolds.

What a perfect way to start of Valentine's day by reading a snarky comment from Champ.   ;D

Season is winding down and still a lot to be decided. UWL needs to keep pushing for that #2 seed as the tournament gets a lot more winnable from that position.

Might be too early for at large talk, but 3 more wins and a loss in the championship game woud create a pretty solid resume for UWL.  Anything less than that and I think they are on the outside looking in.

Looks like if EC wins on Saturday, they get a 1st round home game in the conference tourney.

PRF2009A

UWL gets a sloppy win on the road at River Falls. They played well in streaks, but will need to put a whole game together Saturday if they are going to challenge Point.

Danielle Frank struggled a bit offensively last night, but ended up with 6 points putting her over 1,000 points for her 2 school career.

Not an official record as it came at 2 schools, she becomes the first woman in WIAC or MIAC history to go for 1,000 pts, 1,000 boards, and 300 blocks in a career.  Quite an impressive feat.

Hopefully UWL can keep riding this 6 game win streak for a couple more.

For the first eight minutes the WARHAWKS and Titans played a see saw game with seven lead changes and four ties.  At the twelve minute mark Megan Theune hit a three pointer that gave the WARHAWKS a lead, 15-14, that they would not surrender.  The basket triggered an 11-0 run which the WARHAWKS were able to built to a thirteen point lead twice in the half including 37-24 halftime score.  The WARHAWKS sank five three point baskets and had five turnovers in the half to none and eleven for the Titans.   Dana Thompson led the WARHAWKS 10 points and 9 rebounds.  After Mary Merg's basket give the WARHAWKS their largest lead of the game, 43-28, the Titans got rolling and over the next nine and half minutes outscored the WARHAWKS 24-11 and reduced their deficit to a single basket 54-52.  The WARHAWK lead stayed between 2-6 points after that until a pair of free throws by Merg created the final spread 65-58.

Thompson led all scorers with 25 points (7-12 from the floor and 11-13 from the free throw line) and had a game high 14 rebounds (10 offensive).  Kaitlyn Thill and Chantel Burg also scored in double figures with 10 points each.  Thill and Merg each had four steals.   Merg's stat line read 9 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists, 0 turnovers in addition to the four steals.

Shelby Churchill and Becca Diedrich paced the Titans with 22 and 10 points respectively.  Churchill also had 12 rebounds.

As a team the WARHAWKS had 22 offensive rebounds and had 70 shot attempts to just 51 for the Titans.  Fourteen of the WARHAWKS 23 baskets were assisted and 13 of the Titans 19 turnovers were steals.  The WARHAWKS outscored the Titans 17-10 off of turnovers, 25-15 on second chance points and off the bench  17-12.
