The committee finally gave us its final rankings today. Would have been helpful a week ago.

http://www.d3blogs.com/d3hoops/2011/03/01/ncaas-final-regional-ranking/

Their final flip-flop on IWU/ UWSP explains why UWSP is hosting the sectional.  As I expressed 3 weeks ago, I was kinda surprised that IWU was still ahead of UWSP.  But I call foul on switching them NOW.  Between the times the last published rankings were considered and these FINALLY published standings come out, UWSP went 2-0, IWU went 3-0.

The only thing that changed was who IWU was playing.  The beat three teams who weren't ranked in the regional rankings while SP beat WW, who was ranked 3rd.  I think it is clear that this win bumped them ahead of IWU giving them more regional ranked wins.
Not to mention their last regular season win was against UWL, another ranked team ... so they could have seriously closed the gap after that week, then passed them the week after by beating WW.

For a full body of work I think it makes sense how they could pass them.

Noticed the regional score form not tagged for final rating.  Any indication when the committee will provide it?  Was there any explanation why, after four consecutive weeks the committee ranked IWU #1 and UWSP #2, it reversed the two teams?

I can rationalize either team at #1; but, for the committee to release the ranking after the tournament started and before the sectional host pick provides more questions than answers.

They sent them -- in my haste to get on to more pressing matters, I didn't post them.

SP over WW may have done it as it bumps up for SP both wins against regionally ranked (primary) and wins against all Div III ranked (secondary).  Pat does have the final regional score card but has not had time to post it on the regional ranking page.  No hurry Pat but would be interesting to see the final results.

Point loses, 71-63.  Point finishes with 3 loses on the year, all at home.

Gosh darn it - the Titans wanted to give you the 2nd and 3rd losses, so you could also be 0-3 against the CCIW! :o :D  Curse you, George Fox! ;D

We'll try our best (for the Central region) to avenge your loss. ;)

Lovinthe3ball

I think what Ypsi was trying to say was great season to the Pointers. Nothing to hang your heads about....at least that is what someone with a little class would say  ;)

Not surprised by the post.  It seems like IWU fans have a sense of entitlement for some reason.  I am not sure if it comes from their head coach or just the athletic program in general, but obviously I am not the only one who noticed it.  Nothing wrong with congratulating a team that won, but don't poke fun of the team that lost.

I always thought it was easier to win with class.  But apparently Ypsi just proved me wrong.

Hoosier Titan

I'm not going to try to speak for Mr. Ypsi--he can do that for himself!--but please don't generalize about all of a team's fans because of one comment.  I think he was trying to be humorous and it obviously didn't work.

Sorry if you think "IWU fans" feel entitled.  Could you please be more explicit about why you think that?  Particularly, why would you single out Mia Smith or Dennie Bridges, who have had nothing to do with this discussion?  Several of us--and many people across the country, not just at IWU or in the CCIW--questioned the NCAA committee's decision to put the sectional at SP, and I think there were valid reasons for asking those questions.  Once the data were out, it was clear why the decision was made.  Lots of us made comments about our respect for Stevens Point and that it would be a great sectional no matter where it was played, and that is turning out to be true.

I have the highest respect for Stevens Point, their team, and their coach.  Did they deserve to host?  Yes.  Did IWU deserve to host?  Yes, and they were just nosed out by a team with a higher number of in-region wins.  So be it.  If being proud of your team is "entitlement," then I think both sets of fans have it, and rightly so.
You'll never walk alone.

Mr. Ypsi

I apologize for an attempt at humor that obviously went over like a lead balloon. :-[

UWSP knocked both our men's and women's teams out of the tourney last year.  I was really hoping for a chance at 'revenge', but the Tommies took out our men before the matchup, and now GF prematurely ousted your women.  I meant no disrespect to the team that is starting to give me a complex! ;)

I was able to take in the games last night.  Just Coach Smith walking onto the court and berating the officials before halftime really turned me off.  Now I believe Bridges was in the stands watching the whole thing.

And the comments about the Coe game on Hoopsville, where she credited Coe with running a great motion offense, then being worried about her team sometimes playing down to an opponent.  It might be an honest answer about the game, but also puts down a team.  No need for it in my book.

Just turned me off of her and their team.

Without a horse in the race I will say coming on the board and saying, "I'm sorry your team lost because I wanted my team to end your season" is neither funny or very respectful. If I were a Point fan I wouldn't take that well either.

Considering they had a tremendous season ended and the wounds are fresh I'm not sure even good humor is appropriate from a school still alive.

Great season Pointers! Impressive run through the league again. As someone mentioned, their margins got bigger it seems the more they saw teams. Normally it gets tougher for the better team as people get extra looks at you and the target gets bigger. That's a testament to the staff and those kids.

Here's to a great off-season for the WIAC on the recruiting trail, in the weight room, and in the classroom.

Another fan year to be a fan of this league.

Although I normally wouldn't lump all fans in with a few because of a comment, and I understand that all may not be at fault but I will say this. I was lucky enough to witness a great comeback by a good veteran IWU team tonight at UWSP. George Fox put up a heck of a fight but just didn't have enough left in the tank. With that being said ...I had a lot of teachable moments tonight with my daughter in the stands and where we were sitting on how NOT to act while watching a basketball game...I won't get into too many specifics, but I think all the yelling at the refs being put aside, some of the UWSP players were leaving the gym once the final horn went off and I heard a IWU fan yell " How did you like that game girls?" right at them....I turned to see who it was and to my surprise it was NOT a student it was an adult. And along with that they were lucky to not get charged over as the IWU parents rushed the floor. How embarassing. Which is too bad...and to think at half I was telling my daughter how impressed I was that the UWSP players even came to the game. I bet their coach is probably regretting even letting them come if she knew they would have been treated like that.

With all the nonsense outside of the lines of the court great game by both teams. As far as the basketball game went we definitely got our moneys worth tonight.

sumfun

That's too bad.  That doesn't bode well for good behavior as they host the Final Four. Last year they were gracious hosts, but they didn't have a team in the mix.

Out_Of_My_Kitchen

That is too bad.  I was also at the game.  I really felt for George Fox at the end.  On top of losing the game, they had to wait 3-5 minutes to shake the hands of the Titans after their parents and friends rushed the court after the final buzzer.

Shows the class of the Bruins.  Instead of just going into the locker room without shaking hands, they waited for the Titans to finally remember the sportsmanship of the game and shake hands.

And not all the Titan fans are jerks.  At one point there was a Titan adult getting up and screaming at the refs.  To my delight one of the elder Titan fans told him to sit down and not be a fanatic, but a fan.  That fan then walked across the gym and started screaming from the other side.  At least a couple Titan fans get it.
