Understood. No problem.

Amherst will play WPI in a bit. They are very close to each other geographically. Those match ups of teams that travel real far to play someone who is nearby always make me scratch my head, too.

Unless Carthage has changed their scheduling it's unlikely Cathage and River Falls, or any other WIAC program for that matter, would have played each other even if River Falls was located in Racine.  Historically Carthage's administration has not allowed their athletic programs to schedule WIAC schools in anything other than a multi-team event, a volleyball invitational or track meet for example, or in post season play.  If that's changed it's news to me.

I seem to recall from the CCIW board that that policy was due to the former president, and under the new regime is no longer the case.  But I have no personal knowledge of the situation.

EC wins again. The stats look OK but they got pretty sloppy - maybe tired from being on the road. Also I felt the refs did all they could to keep SW in the game. Curious if any one saw the RF loss and the SP loss. Wonder if the refs helped a little in those games. It was pretty bad in the EC game. If EC wins tomorrow, may get close to a national top 25 ranking.  Finally, was the team SP lost to a DI or DII school. I beleive they were NAIA.

The WARHAWK women got back on the winning track by knocking off previously unbeaten Concordia Texas 64-61.  Junior center Steph Glynn blocked what could have been the game tying shot with seven seconds remaining, rebounded a missed free throw with four seconds left and hit a pair of free throws to clinch the win.  The WARHAWKS trailed once in the game, 3-2, and with the exception of three ties led from start to finish.  Building the lead to a high of sixteen points in the first half the WARHAWKS led 33-21 at the break and maintained a double digit lead for the majority of the first eight minutes of the second half.  Concordia whittled away at the lead and with fifty seconds remaining the two teams were tied 59-59.  A pair of free throws by Cortney Kumerow regained the lead for the WARHAWKS.  Concordia cut it to a single point by making one of two free throw attempts but Mary Merg followed with one of two from the line before Gynn's heroics sealed the deal.

Katie Burton led the WARHAWKS with 14 points.  Chantel Burg and Mary Merg added 11 and 10 respectively.  Merg with 9 and Jamie Swanson with 8 were the WARHAWKS leading rebounders.  Kaitlyn Thill's 5 assists were a game high while Emily Bestor added 4.  The WARHAWKS had 18 assists on 21 made baskets.  Burg's 4 steals tied the game's high while Thill and Kumerow each had 3.

The WARHAWKS will face East Texas Baptist today wrapping up their trip to Austin Texas.

I streamed the RF game.  Seemed to me that Carthage got some bailout calls near the end of regulation that gave them some free throws to keep them in the game but looking at the stats, fouls and free throws were even for each team.  What really hurt RF was poor shooting from outside and their defense wasn't quite up to par, they let Carthage attack the basketball more than they usually do.

Also, I was a little curious about Point Loma Nazarene.  What I found out is they are a NAIA D1 team.  Here's how it compares to NCAA for women's bball:  NCAA D1 15 scholarships, NAIA D1 11 scholarships, NCAA D2 10 scholarships, NAIA D2 6 scholarships.

The WARHAWKS trailed twice in the first two minutes of the game before a Chantel Burg layup put them ahead for good and it didn't take long to overwhelm an out matched East Texas Baptist University team.  The lead was thirty at the half 45-15 and finished at thirty two 75-43.  The starting five for the WARHAWKS averaged about fifteen minutes of playing time as every player on the roster saw the court in this game.  The WARHAWKS defense held ETBU to 18.5% from the floor in the first half and 25.7% in the second one while recording 16 steals.

Jamie Swanson led the WARHAWKS with 16 points.  Burg added 12 points and Kaitlyn Thill scored 10 points.  Burg and Swanson each had a team high 5 rebounds.  Emily Bestor had a game high 4 assists while Burg, Katie Burton, Steph Glynn and Megan Tkachuk all had 3.  As a team the WARHAWKS assisted 15 times on 23 made baskets.  Burg and Sam Quandt had a game high 3 steals apiece.

Considering how lopsided the score was it got a tad fiesty with just under eleven minutes remaining in the game when Burg and ETBU's Brandace Latin were both ejected for fighting.

So Point Loma Nazarene is NAIA D1 with multiple scolarships. Wish SP had one.

No worries. Game means absolutely nothing in the big picture. Point has beaten PLNU in that tournament in the past, so it's not like it's a mismatch.

EC moves into the top 25. Next 2 weeks will be exciting in the WIAC. SP plays RF, SP hosts EC on Saturday. I think the WIAC is super strong this year. LAX, WW, EC, RF and SP are wonderful teams. WIAC winner will probably have 2-3 losses. The end of year tourney may yield alot of surprises as well.  Would not rule out any of hese 5 teams. RF really has it's work cut out with SP. Anyone think they can take down SP. I don't. EC should have no problem with Stout but you never know. The RF game with EC should also be a battle. Any thoughts from anyone?

I still think Point is quite a bit better than the rest of the conference.

Love the WIAC. It is going to be a fantastic year. Hooray RF for your big win. It will only make it tougher for EC to beat SP on Saturday. Also should be a great night again in a week when EC and RF play. The Halama, Plendil combo underneah for EC is pretty darn good. They have played as mature seniors.  Also EC is shooting more 3s than in recent years. Olson. Christenson, Rempert amd others have been pretty good. I think the SP game will come down to Sarah Bingea's abilty to hit the short jumper. I hope the refs let 'em play. Again I totally respect SP but given their schedule has been a tad easy and the RF loss - may show they are human and beatable. Look for LAX and WW to post some big wins as well this year. It is going to be a grand year forWIAC fans.

I just watched River Falls beat Stevens Point 67-63.  SP was up at half by 3 but RF came on in the 2nd half and got the lead up to 10 or 11 from eight minutes to four minutes left.  Interior defense was the difference, RF outrebounded SP 47 to 29 and held SP to zero 2nd chance points.

While Tiffany Gregorich did lead the team with 17 pts there were three players in double figures.  And I would have to say reserve wing Tess Lueders was the player of the game, she came in to get 6 pts and 8 huge rebounds, most of them at the end of the game.

Stevens Point's schedule hasn't been easy, St.Thomas, Illinois Wesleyan, Millikin, River Falls, Whitewater, they all are very highly ranked teams.  So far they have played the 9th toughest schedule in D3, River Falls has played the 16 toughest schedule and Eau Claire has played the 14th toughest schedule for comparison.  SP played and beat Ill. Wesleyan by 14 while EC lost to them by 9.  Another game for comparison - EC beats Whitewater by 5 while SP wins by 21.

The WARHAWKS defeated Edgewood 66-49.  The WARHAWKS held the lead for most of the first thirteen minutes of the game before Edgewood grabbed a two point lead 15-13.  A three-pointer from Sam Quant regained the lead for the WARHAWKS but Edgewood went back ahead for the final time a few minutes later 19-18.  Katie Burton answered that with a three-point basket and WARHAWKS went on a 9-0 run to finish the half up 27-19.  The WARHAWKS shot 50% in the half to 40% by Edgewood and had a 8-14 advantage in turnovers.   A Katie Burton jumper to start the second half gave the WARHAWKS their first double figure lead and it grew to a high of twenty four with eleven minutes to play.   The WARHAWKS shot 58% in the second half while Edgewood dropped to a cool 29%.

The WARHAWKS finished the game 54% from the floor while Edgewood was 34%.  Burton finished with a game high 14 points.  Joining her with double figure points were Cortney Kumerow and Mary Merg who had 12 apiece.  Kumerow had a team high 5 rebounds.  Kaitlyn Thill had a game high 7 assists.  Thill and Jamie Swanson each had a pair of steals.
