Carthage's SOS is 14, UWEC's is 32, and Gustavus's is 74.  When records are nearly equal, I think that is a huge factor.

Just Bill

I don't think UWEC is going to make it either.

I take considerable exception to your comments JMM and I'm tempted to type out a lengthy post explaining why you're full of crap.  But I'm not going to and you're certainly entitled to your opinion regardless of how absurd the conclusions you draw are.  What I will say is that the behavior of the WW player ejected was inappropriate and unacceptable regardless of how frustrated she was from having been tackled by that classy Stevens Point defender on a fast break without getting a call.  Coach Carollo encouraging thug behavior is ridiculous and shows how little you know about her.

Point beat us because they are more disciplined.  Because of that our press doesn't impact them the way it impacts other teams, particularly Eau Claire who had 76 turnovers in the three games we played.  They have size that is difficult for us to match up with.  They hit several clutch shots just as the shot clock was expiring and when we double teamed the ball they always seemed to find the open player for an uncontested shot.  Defensively they took away our outside game and when we got the ball inside their size make it difficult.  Congrats to them.  They outplayed us and showed why they were regular season and tournament co-champions and champions.

In closing I just want to say that the next time you're at WalMart do yourself a favor and buy a clue.

JMM was right.  We all know Burg is an emotional player.  I am naming her name because it was obviously her we are talking about as she got ejected.  It is in the box score.  From my angle at the game she did not get tackled.  I believe the play Warhawk is reffering to is when a Point player and her were chasing down a loose ball.  The Point player stopped and Burg dove for it.  From my angle I didn't see a push.  I could be wrong.  Regardless the Point player didn't end up on the ground, so it wasn't a tackle.

Later in the game, a Point player did get tackled.  It wasn't Burg though who tackled her.  The replays are on TV so it will show exactly what happened.

After seeing WW live and on TV a couple years ago, they have always played with an edge.  They press teams almost the entire game who cannot handle it while WW is up by 30+.  I never cared for the WW's coach behavior during the game.  She tirelessly defends her players, which can be a very good thing.  But after seeing Burg not really grow up in terms of getting T's, (also got one in NCAA tournament a few years back that changed game) I am not sure if she is having the one on one talks that need to happen.

College athletics is not just about winning games, but also having these young ladies mature off the court and get them ready for life as an adult.  I hope she sees the bigger picture.  Just my two cents here.

That said, I think the WIAC has four teams that should make the NCAAs, but I only see SP, WW, and RF getting in.

Having only seen UW-Whitewater play only once (and that was in the NCAA Tournament when it CSB (Saint Ben's) hosted it back in '09, I can concur to the edge that WW seems to play with.  One player picked up a "T" for slapping her hand against the floor hard (after she was warned the first time for doing that).

Well how about that. Glad I was wrong. 4 WIAC teams get in, although none of them will be hosting.

Sweet!

Now, if you're the UWEC Blugolds, here's a motivating factor, a chip on the shoulder (even if the team shaked out higher in the actual selection process):

We're #64!  ;)

It sure seems to me that a Conference that sends 4 teams to the big dance probably deserves to have 1 of them hosting the first wkd.  Point really got screwed getting sent to Calvin.

PRF2009A

I saw said WW player play 6 times in person i think over the last 4 years.  I always admired her style of play.  In a game where the most agressive person usually wins she was definitely that.  A lot of players lacked that extra drive and she always impressed me by having that edge that helped her produce when the game was on the line.

That being said, there's a fine line between being agressive and wreckless.  It doesn't surprise me at all that she could cross that line.

WilsonHoops

With how UWW plays and how tough it is for an opposing team to get a call at UWSP, doesn't surprise me that they got T'd up.

Well, wow.  So glad the WIAC gets its requisite four teams in while the MIAC gets (expletive deleted) over again - for the third year in a row.  Funny to see you guys talk about what an injustice it is that none of the WIAC teams are getting to host.  :'(

Using the selection criteria, please explain why you think Gustavus, I assume, should have gotten in over any of the 3 WIAC pool C teams.

I agree with you.  I thought that for sure Point was going to host a pod.

According to my ballot, which has almost no relation to the selection and bracketing criteria, Calvin versus UW-Stevens Point is a battle of Top 5 teams.

I'm not going to whine about not hosting, but if we want to talk bottom line, dollars for the NCAA, find some schools that have better home attendance for women's teams than UWSP, which averaged 589 fans, and UWEC, which averaged 711... Whitewater averaged 334 and UWRF 277. The league average was 364 fans per home game...

MIAC teams averaged 201 fans per home game.... St. Thomas drew 225 per, Gustavus 277, and Concordia 374... Sure, the arguments can be made about having bigger fan bases in the WIAC locations, but, like I said, if you go bottom line, the WIAC puts more fannies in the seats...

Also, did the MIAC teams put in bids for hosting?

Did the MIAC have its whole conference rank within the top 34 for strength of schedule, like the WIAC did with its 9 teams? Were there three, four MIAC teams consistently ranked in the polls throughout the year like there were WIAC teams?

billys

I was only able to go to two games all season and they were both early in the season. Just a question for those of you who are veterans to the league ... how do you think the teams/talent this year stacked up to the past few seasons or your recent memory? ;)

The last few years I've felt like the league has evened out a bit but the best weren't maybe as good as the best from the past decade (Stout's Duoss teams, the Oshkosh five, the UWSP Nechuta/Schultz squads). That said I felt like the second tier of teams closed the gap and made things more intriguing.

It's weird to see the traditional powers of Stout and Oshkosh (who's going on a long slump now) struggling.

Great to see four teams make it. It doesn't matter how the league compares to past years; it's obvious they've not lost anything (and arguably gained) on the rest of the country. I believe there are six Wisconsin teams overall with Carthage and Wisconsin Lutheran ... awesome!
