QuoteI'm not going to whine about not hosting, but if we want to talk bottom line, dollars for the NCAA, find some schools that have better home attendance for women's teams than UWSP...

I don't think attendance figures is a criteria for hosting at all.  Besides the marginal diference in attendance size  doesn't outweigh all the costs of putting on these events (paying teams travel costs, officials, their own staff costs, etc).  The NCAA Division III tournaments are not money makers for the NCAA.

Sweet!

Now, if you're the UWEC Blugolds, here's a motivating factor, a chip on the shoulder (even if the team shaked out higher in the actual selection process):

We're #64!  ;)

Well, wow.  So glad the WIAC gets its requisite four teams in while the MIAC gets (expletive deleted) over again - for the third year in a row.  Funny to see you guys talk about what an injustice it is that none of the WIAC teams are getting to host.  :'(

Using the selection criteria, please explain why you think Gustavus, I assume, should have gotten in over any of the 3 WIAC pool C teams.

I don't think GAC could have got in OVER any of the WIAC Pool "C" teams.....But at the same time, I think they should have received a bid nonetheless.  The three WIAC teams that got the Pool "C" bids were very deserving; don't get me wrong, and it shows just how incredibly strong the WIAC truly is.  I think a large part of the problem is that the MIAC has failed to showcase their top teams and the problem becomes that much more glaring when this scenario repeats itself three times in a row.

LA RAMS, I think I am agreeing with you.  What the MIAC needs to do is shorten their conference season so they don't have to spend many games playing teams like Carleton and St. Kates twice each when they could use those games to do, for example, like UWRF did and play Carthage and Simpson and Thomas More, teams that will help their strength of schedule.

Attendance does figure into it, as noted by Titan Q yesterday, who posted this information on the men's board (College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin):

Official site selection considerations...

The Championships Committee has prioritized the following site-selection criteria
for all championships:
1. Quality and availability of the facility and other necessary accommodations;
2. Geographical location (which may include such factors as rotation of sites, weather,
accessibility and transportation costs);
3. Seeding; and
4. Attendance history and revenue potential, which shall be considered necessary to
assure fiscal responsibility.

Exactly!  The long conference season basically eliminates the MIAC's top teams from having a high strength of schedule.

Yep, exactly!  The coaches have pretty much already agreed that changes need to be made.  Now, it's a matter of getting the AD's and administrators on the same page.  That could be another story entirely.... :-[

Both UWW and UWSP have tied games at the half.  Point controlled 90% of the 1st half but Franklin ended the half on a 12-2 run.

WIAC goes 2-2.

Point and UWEC win close ones.
UWW & UWRF lose

The upset. EC over Chicago. It is about match ups. It is about EC not self destructing. Tonight they have nothing to lose. Already will be ranked in top 20 no matter what outcome is tonight. Already WIAC co champs. Already outlasted WW and RF to prove legitimate status of rank over them. Folks who follow EC know they do themselves in when they lose - bad nerves. At least 3 players get the jitters and make mistakes. A good mental win over Simpson last night (thank you Leah Rempert). Folks forget EC has a great defense (though they gave to many 3s last night). While Chicago is undefeated and really, really good. EC seniors playing their last game will win. The "bigs" are outstanding, they are tough. If Olsen, Christianson and Bingea do not get nervously wacked out - as has been the case on occasion - EC will get the win. Look for a game like the SP win. Look for Chicago to have problems with Plendl and Halama. Look for Olsen to grab some 3s. Unless the refs go "homer" - mucho first half fouls on Plendl and Hallama - EC will win. Bucky Badger says, yes. It's defense, the bigs, better nerves in the seniors last game with nothing to lose and match ups. Chicago is due for a loss and as Neil Young said, tonights the night. Hope to roll into Hyde Park area around 5:30 PM. I will be wearing the WIAC shirt.

As a Neil Young fan going all the way back to the 60's, how do you confuse Neil with Rod Stewart???

Their voices and their music are totally different.

Fair question. Neil Young's 6th Album, Tonights the Night.  His darkest album that cost him many fans but is now recognized as genius. (Yes, Rod S. also had a song Tonights the Night but that was more about romamce than "victory from defeat".) Neil's album was done live in a studio somewhere in one take to morn the loss of a friend from heroin overdose - his way of coping with it. Folks who thought they had another Harvest Album coming out from Neil were shocked. Critics berated Neil and said he was done. In reality, it was Neil's way of saying - it's about my music and creativity, not selling records. This became the earmark of Neil Young. While there is no real connection between Neil's Dark Album and the game tonight - tonight may be about victoy from anticipated defeat (that many just think will happen - I speculate that Pat C may know EC has a chance of winning, he would pick Chicago). Turning the often nervous play into a winner, overcomeing a real challange, (Yes, I know I'm full of BS). But for EC - Tonight's the Night. They can beat Chicago but need to overcome their dark side - jitters, jitters, jitters. (and must have fair refs).

Both Point and UWEC lose close ones tonight.  WIAC is now done.

As far as EC game, EC got out to a quick start and led 8-0.  Chicago then went on a 32-14 run the rest of the half.  However, EC came out in the 2nd half and got the deficit down to 1, 5 min into the half.  Chicago maintained a small lead all the way until Plendl hit a layup with just under 2min left to give EC a one point lead.  Chicago got a bucket and foul (after what looked like a missed 3-second violation on the Chicago point guard) after a time out.  Christenson then had a 3-point shot go in and out that would have given EC a one-point lead with 1min left.  Chicago hit its FTs down the stretch and EC had a turnover and a missed front end of 1-1 in the last minute.

Plendl ends her career with a monster game, 23pts & 12 rebs and a few blocked shots.  She clearly outplayed Chicago's All American (Simpson).

EC definately had their chances in this game, but their downfall all year (turnovers) came back to bite them in the end.  EC had 20 TOs compared to only 9 for Chicago.

Good season for EC!  At the beginning of the year, I really didn't think they had a chance to to even be close to the top of the conference.  And then here they have a conference championship and an advancement to the 2nd round of the national tournament, barely falling to an undefeated team on its home court.

WOW!  Just caught the end of the George Fox/Puget Sound game.  George Fox with a 5 point lead with less than 5 sec left.  Puget Sound hits a 3 with 3 seconds.  PS fouls and George Fox misses both FTs.  Puget Sound gets a half court shot and makes it......But it was a split second after the buzzer.  The refs actually conferred with each other for about a minute and then waved it off.

EC had a tremendous season. Should get a top 20 ranking. Shared the WIAC Conference champs with SP. Also Plendl should be some type of all american - no if, ands or buts.  Salute to Callie H ffor a super year. Her play is way over the top. Thank you Tonja, Becca, Pat and Seniors. It has been a dynamo year for WIAC fans. Soooo next year? WW goes to the final 4!

Glad you were able to catch the end of the game. One correction, it was Lewis and Clark (not Puget Sound). Lewis and Clark finished the year 25-4 with all 4 losses being to George Fox. Links to video of the last 3.5 seconds can be found on the NWC board.
