Thanks for heads up on the preseason poll Pat C. I smiled when I saw EC with a few vote. To me, they are rebuilding there for the next 2 years. I think White Water will be pretty darn good.

Here's my predictions:

1. SP
2. WW
3. RF
4. PLT
5. SUP
6. EC
7. LAX
8. Stout
9. OSH

I think EC and LAX are losing so much that I can't predict them to finish much higher.  They are losing the two most impactful centers in Plendl at EC and Robinson at LAX and EC is losing many others including Halama.  I guess Plattevile is getting in transfer Katelyn Kuehl the NAC freshman of the year from Wisc Lutheran. While I know SP is losing Averkamp and Bandow I just can't bet against them.  Everyone thinks WW is so good and young but they are losing 3 players who have started and 27% of their points in Bestor, Swanson, and Burg.

According to the NAC boards, Kuehl transferred to Oshkosh, not Platteville.

This is true. She'll likely join Wenig and Kitzke in the backcourt. Frontcourt will be the big question mark for the Titans.

My mistake on the Kuehl transfer to Oshkosh, then I'll change my rankings to:

1. SP
2. WW
3. RF
4. SUP
5. EC
6. LAX
7. OSH
8. PLT
9. Stout

I think Superior is getting better all the time.

Congratulations to UW-Stevens Point, who won the bid to host the 2014 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Final Four.

In the past these have been done on two-year cycles, so I don't know if that means they are hosting in 2014 and 2015. Perhaps the NCAA is no longer doing two years in a row anymore or maybe it's just not announced yet.

The WARHAWKS drilled Chicago.  Had the score been kept in the normal fashion the final would have been 90-52.  The team travels to Evanston tomorrow to scrimmage Northwestern (the Big Ten brand).  I don't expect we will fare as well but it should be a good experience.

Sam Barber, UWSP, is named a first team preseason All-American by the very people who bring you this message board. Congrats!

The WARHAWK women opened the season with a road victory over Carroll University by a 70-60 score.  The WARHAWKS opened the game with a 9-0 run. Carroll closed the gap to a pair 11-9 but the WARHAWKS maintained the lead which eventually grew to 8 points 23-15 midway through the half.  A 15-6 run by the Pioneers gave them their first lead of the half 30-29 at the 4 minute mark and with the exception of one tie Carroll maintained the lead to the half which ended 40-36.   Carroll held the lead and expanded it to a high of 10 points, 58-48, for the first eleven minutes of the second half.  At that point the WARHAWKS made a 14-0 run and finished the last nine minutes of the game with a 22-2 spurt to gain the victory.

Kaitlyn Thill led all scorers with 20 points including 4 of 5 three-pointers.  Thill also had game highs of 4 assists and 7 steals.  Courtney Kumerow added 18 points.  Newcomer Lisa Palmer led the WARHAWKS rebounding with 8.

Emily DeNoyer led the Pioneers with 16 points.  Breann Maryanski added 14 and a game high 11 rebounds.  The Pioneers were held to 22% (6 of 27) from the floor in the second half.

The WARHAWKS travel to Monmouth, Ill this weekend where they will play Wartburg on Friday night and either Iowa Wesleyan or Monmouth Saturday.

UW-Stout got drilled 88-48 against #4 Depauw at the Dunn's Sporting Goods Tip-Off Tournament at Wisconsin Lutheran College. Depauw had at one point a 60 point lead on the Blue Devils in the second half. It was UW-Stout's worst loss in a few decades. UW-Stout plays Hamline (MN) in the Consolation Game Saturday at 1 PM.

Englund referred to the 2012-2013 year as a "reload" not a "rebuild". After a first look against a weak Northland team, maybe there is something to Tonja's optimism. EC had a  very impressive win. This team is fast and intelligent. It also has many good shooters. The future is a move away from the dominant "BIG" game of the past 3 years with the likes of Plendil and Messick and Hallama. Height sometimes bring slowness which is something that EC maybe suffered from the past 3 years. Not, the case this year. (There is  great potential underneath. There is talent and good height underneath.) Lots of good players on this team. Big question is "how fast" the underneath game develops. Tonight's game with Simpson will give a further indication of EC. Simpson had no problem with LAX last night. A win by EC tonight will indicate the "reload" scenario. A sloppy loss means rebuilding. (I'm thinking an 11 point EC victory for tonight.) EC is an intelligent team with many smart excellent basketball players. There is much to be optimistic about in the land of "clear water"  for the next 2-3 years. The talent is there for a continued run at the WIAC championship and national presence. It is a question of how much time it takes for things to gel and young player confidence. Could EC go toe to toe with WW right now, no. But they maybe be able to by February.  Courtney Lewis and Leah Rempert showed some excellent maturity last night. Hopefully Bingea on her return will do likewise.

Stevens Point destroys the #1 team in Women's BB, Calvin 84-63. Sam Barber with 26 led the way. Another week or so to a new #1 in the polls, could it be Point?

UW River Falls plays a solid and efficient game against Lakeland in the consolation game at St. Norberts.  A 71-48 win, RF has young guards but has alot of talent on the frontline and used it to their advantage against an overmatched LC squad.

JMM

EC falls hard to Simpson. Second half no as bad as the first. Way t go Point.
