Outstanding defensive effort by Oshkosh last night. Superior had a goose-egg for the last 9+ minutes of the first half. Great team effort, but hats off to Kuehl for shutting down Linzmeyer. Urmanski and Kitzke both notched their 1,000th point in the second half. It truly will be interesting to see if UWO can keep it going, but they definitely have been fun to watch thus far in a few home games.

WARHAWKS: 59
River Falls: 48

Despite the WARHAWKS defense holding River Falls to 29% shooting and forcing 15 Falcon turnovers their lead at the half was just six points, 27-21.  Baskets by Courtney Kumerow and Katie Burton to start the second half pushed the WARHAWKS lead to double digits 31-21 and consecutive baskets from Kumerow made it  a game high 14 points, 35-21 after seven minutes had been played.  A 16-6 run by the Falcons over the next eight minutes brought them to within four, 41-37.  Mary Merg's jumper put the WARHAWKS lead back at six and it grew to double figures 51-41 on a pair of free throws by Kaitlyn Thill with less than three minutes to play.  After that, with one exception the WARHAWKS maintained a double digit lead which grew to 14 points twice.

Thill and Kumerow each scored 14 points.  Thill added game highs of 5 assists and 6 steals leaving her 9 steals shy of tying the program record held by her sister.  Lisa Palmer's 9 rebounds led the WARHAWKS and tied the game high.  Sam Quandt's 8 points led the WARHAWKS bench which outscored the Falcons 20-5.

Brittany Gregorich finished with a game high of 17 points and Tess Leuders added 10 points for the Falcons.

The WARHAWKS will host Platteville on Wednesday.

WARHAWKS: 71
Platteville: 62

The WARHAWKS opened the scoring when freshman forward Lisa Palmer hit a three-pointer but the Pioneers held the early lead 6-5 with two and half minutes elapsed.  Megan Theune's three-pointer started a 9-0 run by the WARHAWKS and they would eventually build the lead to a high of 22-10 when Amy Mandrell scored on a layup with six minutes remaining.  However the Pioneers would finish the half with a 13-2 spurt that left them one point down 24-23 at the half.  The WARHAWKS defense held the Pioneers to just 26% shooting in the half however the Pioneers scored 13 points off of 10 WARHAWKS turnovers to keep the score close.  Palmer and Kaitlyn Thill each had 5 points to lead the WARHAWKS.  Alyssa Krajo had 10 points to lead the Pioneers.  The two teams traded baskets to start the second half when the WARHAWKS made a 9-0 run to put the lead into double digits 35-25.  Despite the lead reaching a high of 15 points twice the Pioneers kept hanging around twice cutting it down to five points.  However the WARHAWKS always seemed to have the answer and built it back to double figures each time.

The Pioneers took 18 more shots than the WARHAWKS but finished the game 34% from the floor to 46% by the WARHAWKS.  Each team hit 24 shots however the WARHAWKS had an additional three-pointer and outscored the Pioneers 17-9 from the charity stripe.  Platteville's 8 to 17 advantage in turnovers gave them a 15-8 scoring advantage off of them.

Theune, taking advantage of her first starting opportunity of the season, finished with a team high 18 points.  Thill finished with 11.  Mary Merg had a game high 9 rebounds and Palmer added 8 as the WARHAWKS out rebounded the Pioneers 42-33.  Thill and Theune each had 4 assists.

Elizabeth Lawinger had game highs of 19 points and 4 steals to lead the Pioneers.

The line of the night goes to the Platteville gentleman who shouted, "Why don't you kiss her while you're at it" to an official in conference with WARHAWKS coach Keri Carollo.

The WARHAWKS head north to face the surprising Yellow Jackets Saturday.

Other results:

Eau Claire: 52   Sarah Bingea 22 points
Oshkosh: 46     Megan Wenig 20 points

River Falls: 56  Nikki Guhr 13 points, Brittany Gregorich 18 rebounds
LaCrosse: 53    Briana Radowicz 17 points

Stevens Point: 88  Sam Barber 33 points
Stout: 57   Brea Boomer 22 points

After watching that game last night I have no clue how EC came in at 2-3. Sarah Bingea can straight up ball. I love her face up post game and her ability to put the ball on the deck and beat folks off the dribble makes her a match-up nightmare. If you put a post on her she'll drive right past her. If you put a small player on her she'll just shoot over the top and grab some offensive boards while she's at it. In that respect she has a very Dirk Nowitski esque game.

I was impressed with her game when they played here.

Waiting for the fallout from UWS-UWW game yesterday. Helloo...elloo...looo?

Hilary Peterson plays first game this year (2013) after sitting out with a concussion. I wondered why Oshkosh trampled us so badly: no height.

Here's my question: when coaches rag on refs for a perceived missed call, do they argue as vehemently when one of their players benefits? If not, then they need to sit down and shut up.

Thank you. Finally, UWS can take advantage of bus legs

Don't hold your breath, Phoenix_Rising.  The WW people generally only talk about the wins :)

Usually there's at least some noise about the bad calls. This silence is like The Day After Tomorrow and everybody but, apparently, Stoutguy and I are the only ones left alive. Has the shock of a UWS winning (so far) season struck everyone dumb?

I wasn't shocked. Surprised, sure but shocked no. That is a LONG trip and with how UWW plays, up tempo and high pressure, those trips are going to be tough on them. Also Superior is a good team, it seems like Urmanski has been around forever. UWW at UWO should be a good one tonight.

Guess we won't hear anything from the WW faithful about UWO's win over Whitewater tonight then either...  ;)

Can someone point me in the direction of the NCAA/WIAC rulebook where it says that fans cannot use specific names while cheering during a game?

Chants and cheers are up to the discretion of the event manager. If he/she feels it's inappropriate or especially unsportsmanlike, they can take action. It'd be ridiculous to try and document every possible chant or cheer that is/is not permissible, so you place it in the hands of reasonable people to make the call.

You may commence your whine.
