JMM -- i don't believe the ncaa is stretching the rules for anyone.  however, i do believe that whoever the 'ncaa site representative was certainly did not enforce the rules by which school are expected to live by.

who is the 'ncaa site representative'?  that person is NOT on the full-time ncaa staff.  the expense of sending someone from indianapolis would be staggering over the course of a year.  instead, the person USUALLY is the regional chair and, if not that person, a designee from another school in the  region.   my guess would be that this weekend's rep at whitewater was a member of the central region selection committee and most likely not traveling all that far from whitewater. that is the person who is responsible to enforce regulations at the host site. what makes it more disappointing is that the central region chair was at all the games this weekend (because she is the head coach at uww) and shouldn't have put the site rep in a position that it would even be a question.  of all people, the regional chair knows the rules, and apparently her designee didn't want to challenge her. it just leaves a bad taste in the mouth  and says that the rules really don't matter...

i've been to hope, and the arena is just amazing.  it's the perfect size and place for a women's final weekend, and  your team will be treated extremely well.  they are first-class in everything they do.  (and, no, i am not a hope fan, though i do respect the school.)

finally, i see my error in questioning the selection of uww  as this weekend's host over hope.  we all know that the ncaa schedules as few flights as possible. we all have learned to live with the travel restrictions, but there definitely are times that the rule can hurt programs who earned the right to host.  so, apologies for not taking the travel restrictions into account.

From a very close involvement with the NCAA rep I can state without reservation that they have a hell of lot more important things to worry about than signage.  I'm relatively certain that it was an innocent oversight and I can state for a fact that the rep did not in any way shape or form bend to the will of coach Carollo and they were not her "designee."    To even suggest such a thing is insulting and so far off base that it's absurd.  A rule was violated but as rules go I doubt it's one who's omission is going to bring the wrath of the NCAA down on WHITEWATER.  Interestingly not one of the fans who attended either this weekend or the prior one noticed the signage and commented to our staff.  Some of them actually came to observe a basketball game.

If you're going to talk about this stuff you should at least get a clue about how it operates.

This is embarrassing we're even talking about this.  Whitewater got it done give them credit and if you're supposedly a championship team you find a way to win regardless of the gym.
GOTTA LOVE ACT 10

i will put up my ncaa post-season experiences with hosting and knowing what is expected and how things are supposed to operate with yours, any day of the week.  my school HOSTED multiple (i'm thinking close to 50 or 60) d-III tournament weekends and/or single games in seven or eight different ncaa sports, and when we were on the road  i sat in the coaches/administrators meetings as well.  i know what i'm talking about.  maybe your coach didn't personally select the ncaa site rep, but the fact is that your coach is the central region selection committee chair, and anyone the ncaa chooses to be the site rep wants to stay on her good side.

touchy, touchy, touchy ... are you the facility manager at uww? or the ad?  maybe you're a work-study student?  how else would you know that 'no one noticed the signage and commented to our staff' unless you are omniscient?

JMM, thanks for your support. i am indeed trying to stay objective here, and i'm sticking to the facts, but it's kinda funny (and sad) how some fanatics can't see straight when they're looking through lavender-colored glasses.

i see that my karma has taken a hit.  no big deal -- i expect that when, as colonel jessep once said from the witness stand, 'you can't handle the truth!'

You've made nine posts about something that is, let's be honest, a nitpick. You deserve to lose some karma over it. So a rule wasn't followed -- the NCAA wasn't harmed. I doubt anyone really cares other than you.

Let's put it this way -- I love the championships handbook and I will gladly cite it when something important is missed, such as when the national chair was a site rep for a men's sectional a few years back and his sectional failed to produce an All-Sectional team. That's recognition that kids missed out on.

Here? A sign. Whatever. If even I can't be bothered to care about it then I don't think it's a particularly big deal.

It wasn't me to ding your karma.  Believe or not there is another person who thinks your comments were as absurd and off base as I did.  Shocking isn't it?   Evidently they are less hesitant about the use of it than I am.

50-60 meetings in 7 or 8 sports, home and away yet you still don't have a clue how the NCAA selects hosting sites or how they select site reps.   What did you do sleep through them?

I am neither a facility manager, a AD or a work-study student.   I'm not omniscient either.   But I do know about the things people complained about and the signage wasn't one of them.   To my knowledge you are the only person to notice the signage and comment on it.

" i am indeed trying to stay objective here, and i'm sticking to the facts..."  ROTFLMFAO, hilarious, absolutely hilarious.

Mr. Ypsi

I get the strong feeling that cciwrabblerouser is a lobbyist for Coca Cola! ;D

All these posts over something no one else even noticed, much less gave a rat's a$$ about!

BTW, cciwrabble, I've never had a beef with you before, but I am one who dinged you (and I use 'smite' VERY rarely).  Your rants are getting VERY old.

(I'm sure you will ding me just as soon as you get back on - c'est la vie.)

cciwrabblerouser

i have no reason to 'ding' you, mr. ypsi.  and capitalization is overrated.   ;D

Nor does he have the ability, Ypsi, you know that. :)

BadgerHawk - good to see you post. Figured your were laying low not to jinx the Warhawks in trying to get to the final 4. Anyhow, congrats to the Warhawks, even though they drive me nuts as an EC fan, it is wonderful to see this hardworking, experienced group going to Holland. I'm hoping they bring out that stifling defense they use against EC when they play Amherst. Looks like "kinder/gentler" is working well for WW - just kidding

I like your attitude, and just 'applauded' you (which raised you TWO points, since it undoes my earlier smite, then adds a karma point).  But enough on the sign!! :o ::)

Yeah, they were in apparent violation of a rule; but as the saying goes: 'no harm, no foul'. ;)

Thanks

We're very fortunate to be making the trip.  Alot of things went our way.  Not the least of which was hosting.  But Hope isn't the first team in that situation and they won't be the last.  Hope was a very good team.  Luckily we started the game well and were able withstand every run they made afterward.  No one is taking Amherst, or anyone else in the Final Four, lightly.  We may or may not win but if we don't it won't be because we didn't take Amherst seriously enough.   Frankly, we're just glad to be one of the last four teams practicing.
