Think they got the central right. Good year for the WIAC.

Platteville: 58
WARHAWKS: 85

The Pioneers put the first points on the board but that was the only lead they would have the rest of the evening. Jaya Perkins had an answer for that.  The senior wing scored the WARHAWKS first thirteen points on three three pointers and a pair of baskets staking the WARHAWKS to a 13-9 lead in the game's first four minutes.  That lead grew to thirteen 24-11 by the end of the first quarter.  In the second quarter the Pioneers reduced the lead to nine points on three occasions the last being 34-25 with about four and half minutes remaining and the WARHAWKS extended it to a high of eighteen twice before the Pioneers hit a pair of free throws to end the half down sixteen 45-29.  Though the WARHAWKS were outshot 48% to 38% from the floor defensively the team had 14 steals and attempted 48 shots to just 21 for the Pioneers.  The WARHAWKS outrebounded the Pioneers 24-17 but 17 of the 24 were on the offensive end.  Perkins led the way with 15 points. Andrea Olson chipped in 11 and Brooke Trewyn 7 off the bench.  Between them they were 5-9 from beyond the arch.  The Pioneers were paced by Elisa Bilderback's 7 points.  Bilderback has to have the flattest jump shot in the league.  The WARHAWKS lead grew to twenty eight points 66-38 at the conclusion of the third quarter.   Nineteen points is as close as the Pioneers would get in the final stanza.

WARHAWKS:
Perkins: 15 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal ... 16 minutes
Olson: 15 points, 2 steals ... 15 minutes
Trewyn: 14 points, 9 rebounds, 1 assist, 3 steals ... 17 minutes
Lisa Palmer: 5 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals
Malia Smith: 4 assists, 4 steals
Team: 34-24 in the paint, 38-16 off of turnovers, 52-29 off the bench, points from 13 players

Pioneers:
Bilderback: 16 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block
Kassie Buchholz: 8 points
Leigh Drury: 8 points

Watched the EC OSH game last night. OSH played exceptionally well. EC continues to struggle. No outside game.

VERY good year for the WIAC women (for the men, not so much).  Unless the regional rankings shift dramatically in coming weeks, no other central region team is ever likely to even get to the table in Pool C deliberations.

Well the rankings will shift based on the fact vRRO has to be considered, but that might make the WIAC's positions even stronger (since they play themselves). I think over time Wheaton will move up, not that it will matter as they will probably win the CCIW. If they don't, I think they will end up with the strongest chance of getting an at-large bid after the WIACs... I actually think the WIAC will get four-teams in the tournament at this point.

Good to see you check in here Dave. Does looks like 4 Woman WIACs this year. One thing, I think, not mentioned enough about the WIAC is the coaching. Here's what I see Saturday:

SP over EC (EC never got it all together this year - potential was there)
OSH over LAX
RF over PLT
ST over WW (Stiout could have one more upset in them)

I try to check in here... tough to keep track of all the boards... and the women's tend to gain less traction, so I tend to get here second... but especially this time of year I make a bigger effort.

Something to keep in mind that I talked about on the Hoopsville Marathon... being that Whitewater will be in the at-large considerations (most likely)... the committee chair is Whitewater's coach. She will have to come off the call as long as Whitewater is at the table. Huge ramifications.

Aware of that . She gave a great interview on the Marathon show. (I'm the one with the  back surgery who listened all day - bacck is getting better but will wear a brace for 5 more months).  She is a heck of a coach as is Shirley at SP. I believe they both assisted Mark T. at Stout. I think OSH will win the regular season. Also think the tournament is a toss up. I would not bet against Shirley and SP...

Shirley Egner was never Mark Thomas' assistant.

Shirley was a high school coach and then a graduate assistant at Nicholls State (La) before taking over the Pointers program.

WARHAWKS: 66
Stout: 55

Riley Stewart's three pointer opened the scoring giving the WARHAWKS a lead that they would hold for the entire game.  However the lead remained in single digits for the first three quarters with scores of 13-10 (1st qtr), 28-25 (half) and 47-41 after three quarters.  A 9-0 run by the WARHAWKS in the first couple of minutes of the fourth quarter created the largest lead of the game 55-41 and after that the Blue Devils could get no closer than nine.

WARHAWKS:
Lisa Palmer: 15 points, 13 rebounds, 1 block, 1 steal
Andrea Meinert: 12 points, 9 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal
Malia Smith: 11 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal
TEAM: 47-34 rebounding advantage, 32-18 points in the paint, 20-6 second chance points, 18-20 free throws

Stout:
Sarah Schoch: 14 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist
Jenna Goldsmith: 8 points, 6 rebounds
Kyncaide Diedrich: 8 points, 2 assists, 1 steal
TEAM: 34-26 bench points, 16-20 free throws

Big week in the WIAC starts on Wednesday Night. At least 2 teams may find themselves out of the NCAA tournament with a loss or two.

RF over  Stout
OSH over WW (WW really needs the win)
SP over PLT
EC over LAX (LAX mmay win this one)

SATURDAY
EC over WW (change based upon 2/17)
SP over LAX (SP wont lose at home w tournament on the line)
Stout over PLT (home game for Stout)
RF over OSH (hard to beat RF at their place)

WW and RF could make life tough for OSH
WW also has a pretty tough road to stay NCAA viable

Stevens Point wouldn't lose to La Crosse if the played them on a blacktopped, playground court.  ;)
