Thanks for the link Gordon.  I wish other WIAC fans would participate but it looks like I'm it.

WARHAWKS (16-2, 6-1): 57
Stevens Point: 70

The WARHAWKS had the early lead getting in front by as many as five points in the first five and half minutes of the game though both teams started cold from the floor.  However at that point Stevens Point went in front though the WARHAWKS later tied the game 11-11 on a Malia Smith layup and that score stood at the end of the quarter.  The Pointers quickly regained the lead in the second quarter and the WARHAWKS would lead one more time 16-15 on Reilly Stewart's free throw at the midway point.  That lead lasted only one possession as the Pointers regained control building their lead to a high of eight points before the quarter ended with them ahead by five 26-21.   Throwing the ball in the ocean would have been a 50-50 proposition for the WARHAWKS who shot just 30% from the floor.  Becky Raeder's 8 points led the team.  The Pointers put the game away in the third quarter when their lead swelled to double digits and stood at 13 when the quarter ended 52-39.  The Pointer lead grew to as many as twenty in the final stanza.  The WARHAWKS deficit was never fewer than 11 points.  Points in the paint were a deciding factor as the Pointers outscored the WARHAWKS 34-18.

Smith: 11 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals
Oliva Fleckman: 10 points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals
Raeder: 10 points, 2 rebounds
Brooke Trewyn: 8 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals

Quite the game at Kolf last night. 34 missed three pointers. UWO shot barely over 30% for the game (I would have lost that bet). Couldn't get an offensive rebound to save their lives. 4 second chance points and ZERO fast break points between the 2 teams. UWO needs to start taking advantage of the FTA advantage they get most games. 10 misses won't cut it come March. But, as the man said, a win is a win.

LaCrosse (10-9, 4-4): 53
WARHAWKS (17-2, 7-1): 67

With the exception of a single tie the Eagles led for the first quarter.  Their lead reached a high of five points three times and stood at three 14-11 when the quarter ended.  They continued to hold their lead through the second quarter as well.  The WARHAWKS got to within one early in the quarter but the Eagles held their largest lead of the game to that point at 40-32 at the half.  Coming off a poor shooting night last Wednesday the WARHAWKS shooting woes continued finishing the half at 23.3%. Reilly Stewart led the team with 7 points.  The Eagles Mekenzie Miller led all scorers with 14 points largely in the paint.  The Eagles maintained their lead into the second half building it to a high of ten points 39-29 six minutes in.  The lead reached ten again a couple minutes later but was closed to seven 43-36 when Malia Smith hit a pair of free throws to conclude the stanza.  The tide finally turned in the final stanza as the WARHAWKS came out with a full court press and the Eagles had some struggles dealing with it.  The WARHAWKS quickly tied the game 43-43 on seven straight points from Smith and went ahead for good on a three pointer by Stewart that followed.  Totally, including the final seconds of the third quarter, the WARHAWKS made a 17-0 run in the quarter.  Hitting on 9-14 shots while holding the Eagles to 3-19 the WARHAWKS three possession or better lead.  The Eagles would get as close as four with about three and half minutes to play but the WARHAWKS went 9-10 from the free throw line to maintain a comfortable lead over the closing minutes.  The WARHAWKS outscored the Eagles 31-10 in the quarter.

Smith: 17 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals, block
Olivia Fleckmann: 12 points, 6 rebounds
Brooke Trewyn: 11 points, 12 rebounds 4 assists, 2 blocks
Stewart: 10 points, 2 assists
TEAM: 23-28 FT, 24-7 bench points

Platteville (6-14, 2-7): 59
WARHAWKS (18-2, 8-1): 76

The WARHAWKS opened the game with an 18-2 run and dominated the boards 56-36 including 30 offensive rebounds leading to 23 second chance points to maintain their share of first place with the win over the Pioneers.  The lead was as high as seventeen points before the first quarter ended with the WARHAWKS on top 26-11.  Though the Pioneers had some opportunities the WARHAWKS lead was never less than double digits throughout the second quarter and stood at twelve 40-28 at the half.  Reilly Stewart's 12 points led the way while Brooke Trewyn added 10.  The tide turned on the WARHAWKS in the third quarter as they missed 8 of the first 9 shots and turned the ball over 5 times in the first five minutes allowing the Pioneers to close the gap to just a single possession 43-41.  But that's as close as it would get as Malia Smith scored the next five points on a layup and three pointer and the WARHAWKS would end the quarter with a 14-0 run and a 57-41 lead.  The lead was never less than sixteen after that.

Trewyn: 17 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists, block,  3 steals
Stewart: 14 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals
Smith: 13 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals
Gilley Martinelli: 8 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists
Olivia Fleckmann: 10 rebounds

WARHAWKS (18-3, 8-2): 50
Stout (7-14, 3-7): 80

The WARHAWKS shot a season low 20.5% struggling to score in three of four quarters and falling out of the first place tie by losing 80-50 to the Blue Devils.  The two teams played close in the first quarter which ended with the Blue Devils up by a point 12-11.  The second quarter was a disaster for the WARHAWKS who made just two of fifteen attempts and three free throws allowing the Blue Devil lead to swell to sixteen 35-19.  The WARHAWKS got to within eight in the third quarter but the Blue Devils led by twelve 50-38 when it ended which was as close as it would get before the final horn.

Reilly Stewart: 17 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals
Malia Smith: 5 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 5 steals
Emily Kraft: 7 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists

Big win for Oshkosh as they hold on 59-58 to secure first outright WIAC title since 1999. 1 point lead after the first, but WW went on a run to end the half up 5. Taylor Schmidt hit two big 3s to pad the lead late, and WW turned it over on the last play after a bad UWO turnover.

That was just an odd game. UWO could not hit a bull in the butt with a barrel of rice for the first 3 quarters, getting down by as many as 31 (yes, you read that right). Then, after scoring 21 in the first 3, they scored 35 in the final frame, but too little too late as they lose the final by 9. Will be interesting to see what the committee does to UWO. Had they lost by 30, I doubt they would host. Since they were able to make a bit of a comeback, maybe they get the Friday and Saturday games (I hope so, just for the sake of me being able to work 3 more games). But we shall find out tomorrow. Congrats to UWW on the title, and thanks to this website for letting me be able to type about 3 paragraphs, then delete the disparaging remarks I had about comments from the stands. Keeps me out of trouble!

Margin of victory, or even results in the last week, last 10 games, etc. aren't criteria like they are in D-I. Every game counts the same as every other one in D-III. So I don't think it matters as much.

On paper, that is true. I think a human being would see a 31 point home loss and at least 1 or 2 negative neurons would fire. Though they are closest we will ever see, the people at the NCAA aren't 100% robots.

UWO hosting, but a pretty tough draw. Those are 4 darn good teams. Calvin has a pretty good inside/outside combo. I think depth favors UWO. Just need to get the lid off the basket from yesterday.

And, on the plus side, I get to say "Chuck Winkelman" over the PA. Guessing a combination of Chuck Woolery and Babe Winkelman.

Fun weekend at Kolf. Titans make it back to the Sweet 16 for the 2nd time in 4 years with W's over Calvin and Depauw. UWO only shot 11 FT's to opponents 41, which I thought was an odd stat to see. But they shot the ball as well from the field as I have seen them all year. Should be a fun one against Wash U!
