Superior put on a good show for parents today; Amanda Rounsville, with her own private cheering squad (me, included) played a nice game. Thank you, UWPSuper. It was a fun game to watch. Wins usually are.

Hawkey now, so can't spend a lot of time savoring the afternoon. Gotta put some cosmic energy into beating St Scholastica.

Surprised to see the beating River Falls took today. I figured they'd be posting wins for the rest of the season. That's the second time I've made that mistake in a week. Stout women choke on Point. I thought the cold day in hell was last week.

UWEC rolls over UWO by 23 points.   The only life UWO had was late in the first half when they cut an 11pt EC lead down to 4.  EC ended up leading by 7 at the half and ended up pulling away in the 2nd half.  Pretty balanced effort from EC.  Tyriver was clearly the best out there for UWO.  Sharpee didn't play much at all and didn't even start.  Knapp was absent for a lot of the 2nd half.

What's happened to Oshkosh? Are they short players? I mean, I know they have a small squad, but is it depleted even more? Last year, they played far better than they should have and I expected the same or better this season. Injuries? I haven't given them that much attention, I guess, so I apologize if this has been rehashed too many times already.

Have they just exhausted themselves? Playing at Zorn might have been difficult, too. Big crowd?

UWO basically has 3 good players (Knapp, Tyriver, Sharpee), after them talent wise there is a big drop.  When those top 3 are not all playing well, its bad news for UWO.  Also, I think they have had a couple injuries, but I'm not sure if those players would make much difference.  I believe they are only suiting up 9 players.  Some UWO posters in the past have been giving teams with many players (Stout) some grief, but this year I think that they have realized the benefit those teams have of having those extra players on the roster.  For years, UWO has been only having about 12 players listed on their roster.  They have gotten fortunate in the past where they haven't really needed more than 12.  Part because of their slower style of play and part because they haven't had many injuries.  However, that has all changed this year.

I will have to disagree with you a bit about last year's UWO squad.  They had a lot of talent and good players (Eggers, Herrick, Okeef, Knapp, Tyriver).  Personally, I thought that UWO had the best starting 5 last year.  The only problem they had was depth via the bench and maybe getting used to a new coach.  They finished about where I thought they would or maybe even a little lower than I predicted.

I do think that UWO has a good coach.  She seems to do more in-game coaching this year compared to last year.  However, I think that she will have to have a real good recruiting class for next year for UWO to compete with next year's top teams.  But give her 2 or 3 years and I think she will have UWO competing for the conference title.

Not sure what the deal is with Oshkosh; they only had nine players suited up. They were able to hang with the 'Golds to half, trailing only 31-24, if I recall correctly...

Titans shot well in the first half - 11-21, for 54 %, but the 'Golds have been outscoring teams in the second half, and clamped down on D,too, when the Titans shot only 8-22, for 36%. Not sure how much of all that may be attributed to the D, or expending energy to get out of the hole they dug, or if the 'Golds were just able to tire them out, since they only had four subs. Probably a bit of everything... Crowd was 900...

Whitney Tyriver led them with 13; Heidi Arciszewski had 13, while Michelle Burns had 11, with 7 boards, to lead UWEC. Brittanni Hakanson had a nice day on the boards, too, leading everyone with 8... Titans had 19 turnovers and were but 1-9 on threes, and 2-11 from the free throw stripe. 'Golds had 12 steals, and five threes, with Heather Witt having two big ones in the first half...

'Golds keep pace with Whitewater, at 10-4, and snapped a seven-game losing streak to Oshkosh. They have to travel to Superior on Wednesday... Last time these two teams met, the Jackets were coming off their win against UWL?, and a wedding, and now face the 'Golds with another W under their belts... It's Valentine's Day on Wednesday, so what's up your sleeve for this game, foul language?  ;)

I agree with you, Buf, about last year's squad. But, let's face it, five good players--certainly better than three good players--is still a pretty short team. Depth makes a big difference. I think they overachieved simply because after that terrific starting five, they were unremarkable. I suspect coaching had a lot to do with last year being as good as it was; making lemonade...

There has to be a tipping point for smaller being better. I think 12 might be too few; 20 too many. Three lines of decent players can be deadly; after that, you're talking excess--decadency.

Bulk--
Planning to send an embarrassing amount of chocolate to EC players. We want those women bloated and slow. Dark chocolate; good for their hearts...

In southwest WI it is beer for the horses and whiskey for the men! God Bless!

Super77--
Do you know how the Nemitzes sort out? Steph played at Stout for four years, sister of Stasia (Stacia?), who played at P-Ville last year (might have played two years there). Is Vanessa a cousin?

P.S. I believe the southwest WI women do a bit of the whiskey, too.

Mr. Downtown

Don't forget Arin Lane in the mix...I think she'll be very productive next season for Oshkosh.

Things are going to look up next for the Titans. With Beth Garman coming back, Oshkosh will have a very forward heavy team. Lane, Abbitz, Garman, Sharpee gives Oshkosh 4 good post players.

Tyriver then can be moved into her more natural position at the 3 spot. Hopefully Jenna Southward will be able to improve over the offseason, and if Oshkosh can grab a solid freshman to help out with the point guard position, the Titans should be formidable.

Of course we're not done yet...I'm expecting some upsets in the conference tourney this year on the women's side.

RealWIDeal

I can't see Oshkosh pulling off an upset with the way that they have been playing lately.

Mr. Downtown

I think they would have a better shot of beating Whitewater on the road, than Eau Claire.

To FL: I believe all of them are sisters. I have meet the parents, but do not know them personally. The yougest shot some 3 pointers against you and made some. She does like to shoot, and is playing well as a Freshman. God Bless!

Just to clear up the Nemitz thing, they ARE sisters.  Must have made for some interesting pick-up games in the driveway.
I've met their parents, and gave the father the obvious nickname:  "Admiral."

Just wanted to move WIAC board to the top of the list. Happy Valentine's Day.

Can I get some help in this? Isn't anyone out there?
