Champ, you said there was a chance for someone else and I asked, other than Mark, who?   But I know you're in Kari's corner too and I don't really want to get into a lengthy discussion so we'll just wait to see how it works out.

We still haven't won a post season tourney game.  That's a monkey we'll have to wait till next year to get off our backs.

Humble is a word not often used to describe me.  :D

Keri is a great coach and I have no problem if a Mark Thomas protege gets the award!

But how many WIAC coaches have won 3 WIAC titles in a row?  It's never happened - so that might be a deciding factor.

Also, first year HC Mulhern up in Superior - 2 WIAC victories for a squad that went winless in the conference last season....

And no, I would never use the word humble to describe you... ;D

WOW! The upset at UWW was only the second time a 7 has beaten a 2seed in the first round of the WIAC tournament. The last time was in 2001 when the Pioneers beat UWEC.

The only time EC lost in the first round was last year.  I think in 2001, UWP upset the #2 UWO Titans.  UWP ended up playing at Zorn in the championship game.  It was a nip and tuck game in which Brantner hit a shot at the buzzer to win it for EC.

buf is right.  In 2001, #7 Platteville beat #2 Oshkosh and #3 Stevens Point on the road before losing to #1 Eau Claire at the buzzer.

I would not expect that the suggestion of Mulhern being considered as COY is anything but tongue-in-cheek, but I would hope that in three years or so, he will be in the position to get some recognition. Of course, that means he needs to improve the W/L record. However, this year I believe Superior was more competitive in many games other than the two they won. Or, perhaps they were more competitive longer (stayed within lower double digits, even single digits, for more of the game than in the past). He has a serious uphill battle to get respectable: he has to convince players to come up here to a program that hasn't had a winning season probably ever. I hope he does it. Besides, Superior has some great academic programs, and it's a shame to waste them on non-athletes...

Kathi Bennett and the Oshkosh Titans won three straight - they tied for the conference title in 1994-95, and sandwiched that with outright titles in 1993-94, and 1995-96, when they won the National Championship...

UWL won a half-dozen consecutive titles in the early 1970s, when the conference was considered the WSUC...

P.S.  The women's conference was never called the WSUC.  It was the WWIAC.

I stand corrected on 2001. It must be my age, 52, and that I work 3rd Shift. both create brain farts at times. Good luck to all teams playing tomorrow. I wish i could be in EC tomorrow, but I have to work. God Bless!

Here is a stat to consider:In the history of the conference tournament, The #1 seed is now 25-0.  That is an amazing stat.   I hope I haven't just jinxed the Bluedevils.

I stand corrected - I missed the shared title with Eau Claire.  I didn't consider UWL's record prior to the formation of the WIAC.

If you did, you're buying.

Looks like EC came out smellin' like roses with the WW loss.

They're up 30 with 5 minutes to go.

Stout by 10 with 10 to go.

buf

Not much to say about the EC-UWP game.  EC won easily (by more than 30) and they did so without Zenner (concussion-day to day) and for most of the first half without Witt (2 fouls in 1st minute of game).  Four Golds in double figures, led by Heidi A with 21.   She did a good job of taking control in the first half with those players on the bench.  Wisdom had a real good game for UWP.  She will be an excellent player in this conference.

Big I-94 battle with Stout on Saturday.  More pressure on EC because they will need a win to get into the tournament.  Stout is already a pool C lock.
